Description
1839 50C Drapery MS65 NGC. Considering the seven-figure mintage of 1839 With Drapery half dollars and the fact that 1839-dated Seated Liberty halves represented the first-year of production of a major new design, one would expect that high grade survivors of this issue would be more plentiful. Such is not the case. Although the No Drapery variant is slightly less available than With Drapery halves in Mint State, both types are equally rare in Gem or better condition. As of (8/08), NGC has certified only four pieces at the MS65 level and PCGS has graded a mere two at the same grade, with none finer at either service. An awe-inspiring blend of rose, amber, and electric-blue toning blankets the lustrous surfaces on both sides of this truly special coin. The current offering is more than a solid Gem survivor--it is also a eye-appealing specimen that will surely elicit aggressive bidding competition.
