The clean white OAL (Brown) ball we offer here has been graced by eight members of that illustrious club, including Rose, Musial, Aaron, Kaline, Brock, Mays, and Yastrzemski.
1955 National League All Star Team Signed Baseball. Summer 1955 and the annual All-Star game was being played on July 12 at Milwaukee's County Stadium, a game that went to extra innings for only the second time in the All Star history. After going down 5-0, the NL won 6-5 in the 12th from a walk-off homer by Stan the Man Musial. Stan's HOF signature appears on the leather of the offered ONL (Giles) baseball, along with fellow NL All-Stars Duke Snider (HOF), Gil Hodges, Red Schoendienst (HOF), Ted Kluszewski, Ed Mathews (HOF), Ransom Jackson, manager Leo Durocher (HOF) and more. Ball has been inscribed "All Star Milwaukee Stadium 1955 National Team Signed 1955," which has been written in a different pen than the signatures. Surprisingly, the inscription has faded to no better than a 5/10, while all the signatures rate 8/10 or better.
1958 Cleveland Indians Team Signed Baseball. The leather of this OAL (Harridge) baseball has been populated by 29 signatures from the star-laden 1958 Cleveland Indians squad. For example, the signatures of Maris, Lemon (HOF), Minoso, Wilhelm (HOF), and Colavito are all found on one amazing panel! Other noteworthy inclusions are Doby (HOF), Vernon, and manager Bobby Bragan. Signatures rate an average of 7/10 or better.
1998 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. Official 1998 World Series baseball has been signed by twenty-three members of that year's Championship New York Yankees. This marked the first of three consecutive Fall Classics for the Yankees. Noteworthy pinstripers include: Jeter, Hernandez, Williams, Cone, Pettitte, Rivera, Strawberry and Torre, among others. Signatures rate a 9/10 or better. Ball has been hand-numbered "2/125." Excellent collection of World Champion signatures. LOA from PSA/DNA.
500 Home Run Club Multi-Signed Jersey. Great replica Hank Aaron Atlanta Braves jersey offered here has been signed on the reverse by 11 members of the exclusive 500 Home Run Club. Along with Aaron's blue sharpie signature, we present the fine autographs of Killebrew, Mays, Frank Robinson, Schmidt, Reggie Jackson, Ted Williams, Mantle, McCovey, Mathews and Banks. The ink of the sharpie signatures has begun to run into the material of the jersey, however all autographs remain in perfect 10/10 condition.

Jackie Robinson Cut Signature. Affixed to this 4.5x5.5" album page is a particularly strong example of the HOFer Jackie Robinson's highly desirable signature. The cut signature has been attached along with three newspaper clippings depicting the color barrier-breaking hero. A ticket stub from Brooklyn's Ebbets Field circa 1948 has been attached to the reverse.

Circa 1990s Wade Boggs Game Used Signed Bat. The perennial .300 hitter Wade Boggs was simply stunning with the lumber, winning five AL batting titles. Offered here is one of his preferred tools of the trade, a black Rawlings Big Stick 456B Wade Boggs Yankees model, dating it from the years 1993-97. As to be expected from a gamer from Boggs, ball marks are abound, with a thin layer of pine tar applied to the handle. Boggs' jersey number "12" appears on the knob, along with "32 Boggs" written in black ink. Sweetening the deal, the HOFer has applied his 9/10 signature to the barrel of this fine game used example.
1915 Major League All-Stars Photo. Quality glass framed picture in excellent condition of nine greats of the game from 1915. Players include Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Eddie Collins, Tris Speaker, Frank Baker, Ray Schalk, Walter Maranville, George Burns, and Jake Daubert.
1964 Sports Illustrated Proof Slick. Never before seen outside the offices of S.I., this rare proof slick has only lived to see the light of the collecting day due to its use in the photographer's portfolio. Serious collectors of the publication will not want to miss this once in a lifetime chance. Date is December 21, 1964. Condition is superb, with only a few light wrinkles only visible upon very close inspection. Signed by photographer in pencil at lower right.
Johnny Evers Personally Owned Pen & Pencil Set. Take a "Chance" and place a bid, and you may soon be able to "Tinker" with this beautiful gold set that once belonged to the second baseman of the famed double-play trio. This matched pair by "Sheaffer's" (original box included) is pure art deco style. Each has the monogram "J. J. E." engraved on the clip, and was certainly once a gift to the Hall of Fame Cub. We only wish we had some of the correspondence he likely signed with these. Included is a letter from Marian C. Evers, attesting to the fact that this set once belonged to her famous relative.
1945 Negro American League Poster. This poster from 1945 announces a Negro League matchup between the storied Kansas City Monarchs, who employed the services of Satchel Paige, and the Harlem Stars, featuring Goose Tatum of Harlem Globetrotters fame. Game was held at Indianapolis' Victory Field, and the poster remains in fine condition, with no major creases or tears to note. Measures about 14x22".

1946 Detroit Gems Team Signed Broadside--Became the Minnesota/Los Angeles Lakers! Had the National Basketball League franchise the Detroit Gems been anything other than simply awful in 1946, who knows how different the NBA would be today? Posting a miserable four and forty record the season this exceedingly scarce broadside was issued, the club was on the verge of extinction when Ben Berger and Morris Chalfen purchased the club for $15,000 and relocated it to Minnesota, renaming the franchise the "Lakers." The draft of 1947 would soon arrive, and the newly christened Lakers, by virtue of their last place finish in '46, were afforded the first overall pick. Their selection: George Mikan. And the rest, as they say, is history. So don't go looking for any stars among the thirteen 9/10 ink signatures that dot this historic exhibition game announcement--you won't find any. Frankly, that's the point. The broadside itself is the real "gem" here, the only one from this franchise known to exist, and just about the only piece of any kind related to the Detroit Gems surviving to this day. The cardstock poster measures 11x14" in size and is affixed to a scrapbook page by ancient staples. Some tack holes, light water staining and a chipped corner are apparent, but nothing can challenge the appeal or historical significance of this supreme rarity. LOA from PSA/DNA.
1948 Marques Haynes Signed Harlem Globetrotters Contract from the Marques Haynes Collection. From the early days of professional basketball, here is Marques Haynes' copy of his contract with the Harlem Globetrotters covering the period from Thanksgiving Day, 1948 (that's what it says!), until March 31, 1949. This was to be Marques' second season with the team. It spelled out the agreement to pay Marques the sum of $400 per month (even then, not a whole lot of money), plus expenses. A pretty good deal for the team, given that Marques was the best dribbler and one of the overall best guards in professional basketball at any level. Looking closely at the agreement text, you can see in section (4), a provision calling for "the player" to report to the owner three weeks prior to Thanksgiving Day for "training," during which the player would receive "meals, lodging and transportation" --but no pay!!! Times have changed a bit. This was a fairly one-sided deal structured by the legendary founder of the Globetrotters and one of the pioneers of early professional basketball, Abe Saperstein. On the second page, the contract is signed boldly by A.M. Saperstein (9.5/10) and Marques Haynes (8.5/10). This is a truly historical document, one of the building blocks in a legendary team and the career of a great Hall of Fame player. LOA from PSA/DNA.
Wilt Chamberlain Signed Index Card. Perfect blue ink signature on the unlined side of a 3x5" index card. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
1932 Vintage Basketball. Not a whole lot can be ascertained from this vintage basketball, but we can assume that it came from a 1932 contest between squads from Fitchburg and Brockton, Massachusetts and was most probably played at MIT. According to the ball's notation, Brockton won the game 20-19. As can be expected, heavy wear can be observed to the ball, but the notations remain highly legible.
1957 Abe Saperstein Harlem Globetrotters Founder Torch of Hope Plaque. The London-born Abraham Saperstein made incredible inroads in spreading the popularity of the game of basketball across this country. With the founding of his wildly entertaining Harlem Globetrotters, Saperstein spread smiles worldwide as his skillful team was constantly on tour. The 'Trotters were also known for spreading goodwill wherever they went, perhaps contributing to Saperstein receiving the Torch of Hope Award in 1957. Here we present the aforementioned award, a plaque which measures about 13x19". Condition is strong considering its age, with only minor nicks impeding upon the plaque's surface.
1978-79 Michael Jordan High School Yearbook. The future NBA megastar was just a gawky high school Junior when this volume of Laney (NC) High School's yearbook "The Spinnaker" was issued to a classmate of His Airness. Though filled with wishes for a good summer by various friends and faculty, there is sadly no inscription or signature from Jordan. There are, however, several photos of the sixteen-year old legend in the making, most notably as a member of the school's basketball team. A particularly tough yearbook due to the relatively small size of Jordan's high school alma mater, this example rates an impressive NRMT.

1940 Sugar Ray Robinson Golden Gloves Jacket. Dubbed in 1997 by Ring Magazine as "pound for pound, the best boxer of all time," Robinson was at the beginning of his remarkable career when he wore this jacket at the New York Golden Gloves Championship in 1940. Born Walker Smith, Jr., the teenaged fighter assumed the name of his good friend Ray Robinson after borrowing his Amateur Athletic Union boxing card to gain entry to the local gym. After winning the Golden Gloves Championship, Sugar Ray immediately turned pro, and the rest is boxing history. The royal blue sweater jacket from Robinson's last amateur bout has golden felt "Golden Gloves" stitched across the back and a matching "NY" in Yankees font over the heart. Zippers are located at the v-neck of the collar and at the cuffs to allow boxing gloves. A tear that extends downward from the point of the collar has been stitched back into place, and various rips and holes dot the surface. Despite its admittedly imperfect condition however, the jacket still displays exceedingly well and does not suffer significantly for its flaws. Its status as the earliest piece available from Robinson's boxing career must outweigh these concerns anyhow. Letter of authenticity is from Sugar Ray's son, Ray Robinson II. LOA from JO Sports/Craig Hamilton.
Circa 1940s All-American Boxer Hand Puppets Lot of 2. Released in the 1940s by the JVZ Co., this pair of hand puppets have rubber heads and rubber boxing gloves which are attached to cloth bearing "All-American" shield pattern. One boxer is an African-American, while the other dons a crew cut with painted blue eyes. Condition is Excellent.
Football Cards
1965 Topps Joe Namath #122 PSA EX-MT 6. Fine example of one of the most recognizable card in the football card hobby. Not only is this the only recognized rookie of the HOF quarterback, it is actually a short print of the 1965 Topps "Tall Boys," making this PSA 6 cardboard a must-have.

1959 New York Giants Team Signed Football. They rolled to a League-best ten and two season this year, staking a claim as a candidate for one of the greatest Giants teams of all time. This autographed ball is likewise a strong contender for the title of finest ever, as not a single instance of the forty-two signatures present has diminished a fraction of a shade from its original brilliance. Taking top billing are names like coach Tom Landry, Huff, Gifford, Brown, Grier, Triplett, Summerall and more. Unofficial ball presents beautifully, and still holds a full belly of air. Furthermore, the placement of the autographs on just two of the four panels allows for simultaneous display of all autographs. LOA from PSA/DNA.
1970 Baltimore Colts Team Signed Football. As a proud fan has noted on an empty panel of this Spalding "Johnny Unitas" model football, the Colts left the Cowboys a field goal behind at the close of Super Bowl V in January of '71, allowing us to present this rare artifact from the last Colts team to go all the way. Over thirty blue ink signatures from the Championship squad include Unitas, Morrall, Hendricks, Mackey, Perkins, Matte and Bubba Smith. Signatures average EX-MT, with most NRMT and only half a dozen in the VG range. LOA from PSA/DNA.
Circa 1970 Green Bay Packers Team Signed Footballs Lot of 2. High-grade pigskin pair pays tribute to the men who called Lambeau home three and a half decades ago. The first is a "Rawlings Official FLF Herculite" with approximately forty signatures, including Coach Phil Bengston and Hall of Famers Bart Starr, Ray Nitschke and Forrest Gregg. The second ball is a "Wilson Sub Standard" signed by fifty-one Packers, including Coach Phil Bengston and Hall of Famers Bart Starr, Forrest Gregg and Ray Nitschke. Other signatures include Perry Williams, Dave Bradley, Ervin Hunt, Lee Harden, Bill Hayhoe, Ken Ellis, Dale Livingston and Bob Jeter. All signatures grade an overall 8/10 to 9/10. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
1984 San Francisco 49ers Team Signed Football. The members of the Super Bowl Champion San Francisco 49ers squad from the 1984 season have checked in on the leather of this official Wilson signature football. As can be expected from the champs, many superstars are present here, with names like Joe Montana (HOF), Roger Craig, Dwight Clark, Jesse Sapolu, Bill Ring, Derrick Harmon and Carl Monroe populating the ball's white panels. Due to its being stored for years without being inflated, the ball's white panels have begun to crack, however all signatures remain strong and legible to an 8/10 or better.
1987 San Francisco 49ers Team-Signed Football. Offered here is an official Wilson NFL Football, signed by the members of the 1987 San Francisco 49ers. After finishing the regular season 13-2, the Niners crashed out in the first round of the playoffs against the Vikings. A vast amount of star power populated the 49er squads of the era, and this example is no exception, with names like Rice, Montana (HOF), Lott (HOF), Craig, John Taylor, Young (HOF), Rathman, Clark and many more. All signatures rate strong, with an average condition of 8/10 or better.
1992 San Francisco 49ers Team Signed Football. The three white panels of the near perfect Wilson signature football have been graced with black ink signatures from the 1992 San Francisco 49ers. Led by HOF quarterbacks Steve Young and Joe Montana, this ball has been signed by several big-name stars such as Jerry Rice, Tom Rathman, Dexter Carter, and Mike Cofer. All signatures rate 8/10 or better.
1988 San Francisco 49ers Team Signed Football. From the Super Bowl Champion 1988 San Francisco 49ers we offer this fine Wilson signature football which is virtually covered across the ball's three white panels. HOFers such as Montana, Lott, and Young are joined by other Niners like Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, Dwight Clark, Jesse Sapolu, and Charles Haley. All signatures rate strong, averaging 7/10 or better.
1989 San Francisco 49ers Team Signed Football. HOF quarterback Joe Montana led his San Francisco 49ers to the most lopsided victory in Super Bowl history when they beat the Denver Broncos 55-10. The performance earned Montana game MVP honors. On this souvenir football with the logo of Super Bowl XXIV on one of the panels are the ink signatures from the members of that team including Montana, Ronnie Lott (HOF), Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, John Taylor, Steve Young (HOF), and more. Both the football and all signatures remain in fantastic presentational condition.
1992 Dallas Cowboys Team Signed Football. America's Team, as the Dallas Cowboys are affectionately known, was on its way to NFL dominance in 1992, winning its first of three Super Bowls in four seasons. Here we offer a souvenir Wilson football with Dallas Cowboys logo screened on one panel, signed by the members of that '92 Championship squad. All your favorite Cowboys are present including HOF quarterback Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Daryl Johnston, Alvin Harper, Charles Haley, Leon Lett, Bill Bates, and many more. Ball is in excellent condition and all signatures are signed in a 9/10 or better black sharpie.
Jim Thorpe Signed Photograph. Small photo measures 3.5x6" and features a pastoral image of the mighty Jim Thorpe with his terrier. Photo verso has blue ink "Property of Jim Thorpe" inscription, signed with unmistakable clarity. Area around Thorpe and his pet has been whited out to foreground them further as the photo's subjects. A "3" has been inscribed above the image of Thorpe, and it must be noted that a horizontal crease exists 1.5" from the photograph's bottom edge. LOA from PSA/DNA.
1946 Chicago Bears Team-Signed Vintage Program. In 1946, Hall of Fame coach George Halas returned to the helm as head of the Chicago Bears after a stint in WWII. The team went on to win the NFL Championship that year. Offered here is a program from that season's matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, which the Bears won 21-14. Twenty-two signatures appear on the front cover, with Halas joined by other greats such as Sid Luckman (HOF), Ken Kavanaugh, Bulldog Turner (HOF), George McAfee (HOF), Joe Stydahar, Hugh Gallarneau, Bill Osmanski, Joe Osmanski, and more. Program remains in great condition: a missing section in the upper right corner of the cover and the central page being separated from the binding staples being the only detractors from condition.
Circa Late 1970s Chicago Bears Game Used Helmet. Tremendous game worn example of the on-field helmets that the Chicago Bears used between 1974-82. The Wilson helmet shows a great amount of wear, with numerous nicks and scratches throughout. The classic Chicago Bears "C" logos are beginning to peel up, but remain adequately affixed to the helmet. Inside are two handwritten "53" uniform number indicators, quite probably making this a linebacker or center helmet.
1994 Joe Montana Game Worn Jersey. The legendary Hall of Fame quarterback took some of the final snaps of his career in this important white mesh Kansas City Chiefs jersey, putting the last touch on numbers that would live forever in the Canton record books. Use is quite nice for a quarterback jersey, with wear particularly noticeable in the shoulder area and in the puckering of the tackle twill numerals. Orange and red number "19" sewn to chest, back and sleeves, with "Montana" sewn to rear nameplate. Patches commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the N.F.L. and the 35th Anniversary of the team adorn the upper left and right chest respectively. "Wilson" label in tail is framed by embroidered "94" year tag and "44" size tag. LOA from SCD Authentic.
Circa 1940 Vintage Spalding Football Helmet. The winged helmet, now famous due to the University of Michigan, was a standard design that Spalding began making during the late 1930s. Adopted by such college programs as Michigan and Princeton, the winged design was a welcome change of pace from the plain leather helmets that were commonplace at the time. The University of Michigan simply took this design and painted it in the school's maize and blue, a design the team still uses. The offered example is or is very similar to Spalding's FH5 model, first advertised in 1937. Original chinstrap is missing.
1961 Paul Hornung Sport Magazine Award Plaque with Hornung LOA. This fine piece derives directly from the estate of this gridiron legend, with personal letter of authenticity that reads, "I, Paul Hornung, played football for the Green Bay Packers from 1957-1962 and again from 1964-1966. As quarterback at Notre Dame, I was a consensus All American and the 1956 Heisman Trophy winner. Nicknamed 'The Golden Boy,' I was the NFL MVP in 1960 and 1961 and scored 760 total points in nine pro seasons. In 1986 I was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I do attest that this is my original Sport Magazine Award plaque, awarded to me as the Top Performer in Professional Football in 1961. I have had the plaque in my possession ever since." Measures 10x15" in size, in fine condition. Personal awards from Hall of Fame athletes rarely become available on the auction block, much less one so prestigious as this one. A rare opportunity indeed.

Levier's father was French Corsican and his mother was American, thus providing him with the opportunity to seek fame in both countries. He would continue to paint landscapes in Corsica, France. Levier's figures, with their powerful omnipresent outlines, manifest the strong and linear style for which he is celebrated. 1856 John C. Fremont "Free Soil" Silk Campaign Ribbon. Features a portrait of Fremont riding on a horse in full uniform. His nickname "Pathfinder" appears behind him as well as the slogan "Free Soil Free Speech Free Press Fremont." In near mint condition with no fraying and only some slight yellowing.
1856 Millard Fillmore "Be Vigilant" Campaign Medal in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt MF 1856-3, measures 35mm. This "holdover" president, who had achieved office only on the death of Zachary Taylor, saw his Whig Party disintegrate in 1856. He was nominated by the 3rd party "Know Nothings" (as portrayed in the film "Gangs of New York") without success. In almost uncirculated condition with some slight problems on the obverse. Two small blemishes on Fillmore's face and a few edge nicks.
1860 John Bell Campaign Medal in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt JBELL 1860-4, and measures 33mm. The obverse shows John Bell's profile to the right, which is enclosed by the words: "John Bell - Born Feb. 13. 1794" all enclosed by a ropelike border. Below the truncation of the neck the name of the engraver appears: "Merriam Boston". The dies were cut by Joseph H. Merriam of Boston. The reverse features the bust of his running mate Edward Everett facing left with very Julio-Claudian features and the words: "Edward Everett - Born April 11. 1794." The word "Merriam" appears again below the truncation of the neck. In Almost Uncirculated condition; moderate edge nicks and dings; still retains much of its reflective qualities; a light white residue embedded between the letters on both sides.
California Democratic Council for JFK Pinback Button. This 2 1/4" button reads "California Democratic Council - Unofficial Political Group." In near mint condition with some slight wear on the back.
1868 General Ulysses S. Grant Silk Campaign Ribbon. This handsome woven ribbon measures 1.75" x 6" and is in near mint condition with just some slight fraying on both ends. The eagle, American Flag and olive and oak branches are all in color. A clean and affordable example!
1956 Anti Stevenson & Kefauver "Oh Good Grief" Pinback Button. Measures 3" and is in near mint condition with just a few small scratches on the verso and one or two small spots on the front. This button reads "Oh Good Grief NOT Ad' & Keef'." A humorous addition to any political collection.
Blaine-Logan Jugate Ribbon with Cardboard Photos. From 1884 campaign, measuring 6.5". Applied paper photos in great shape. The Blaine/Logan is especially nice, with its "Plumed Knight" and "40 rounds" imagery in gold. Has very minimal fraying and even has the original makers stickers on the back.
Rare Store Display Card and Pair of 1888 Cleveland-Thurman Campaign Badges. Two Cleveland-Thurman badges, both measures 1 1/4", are still hanging on their ORIGINAL display card! They are in excellent condition with identical patinas. The badge on the left has some slight soiling on the upper portion. This red, white, and blue badge is always a popular one. The store card itself is torn badly on the right side and quite dirty.
1860 Abraham Lincoln "White House" Campaign Token in Copper. An important example of what collectors refer to as the "White House" token. Listed as Sullivan 1860-61, 22 mm, nice patina, the depiction of "The President's House" on verso, presumably the soon-to-be home of the candidate on obverse, makes this a favorite. Slightly soiled on the edge with what almost looks like a dark paint. This example is unholed, which is uncommon. The reverse has an odd patina to it but is still quite visible and will display well.
1906 Bryan "Commercial Travelers Bryan League" Pinback Button. Measures 1 1/4". This colorful 1906 button was put out by one of the many political groups formed by both pro-Democrat and pro-Republican traveling salesmen in the early 1900s. In excellent condition with a small ding and some soiling at 2 o'clock. The backpaper and pin are still intact; some slight oxidation present on the verso.
Key 1948 Truman & Barkley 1 1/4" Jugate Pinback Button. This key jugate is in near perfect condition with some soiling present near the portrait of Truman and some slight oxidation on the backside. The original backpaper and pin are still intact.
Imposing Large 1 1/2" McKinley-Roosevelt Sepia Toned Button from 1900. Rich, deep sepia of a quality rarely seen on buttons of this coloration. Choice overall, with some slight dents on the face and light soiling. Original pin is still intact.
1904 Parker-Davis "White Elephant" Pinback Button. A choice version of this rarer 1 1/2" size button. Clean on the front but the backpaper is missing as well as some slight tarnishing present on the backside. Original pin intact.
1952 "Homecoming Flight of Mister Dwight D. Eisenhower" Menu. This small menu may look inconspicuous on the outside, measuring only 4.5" x 6", however, inside it has been signed by nearly the entire Eisenhower family and several senators. The flight occurred on June 3, 1952 and went from Washington, D.C. to Abilene, Kansas. The complete menu is listed on the inside, some items included: stuffed olives, vanilla ice cream, and club steak. The left inside cover has been signed by seventeen different people, including: Dwight D. Eisenhower, Mamie Eisenhower, and Helen Eisenhower. The outside cover is a handsome silver color, with an embossed logo of a plane and the TWA corporate symbol. In very fine condition; light overall toning, otherwise like new.
1888 Cleveland and Hendricks Silk Campaign Ribbon. This handsome ribbon measures 6.25" long and 2.5" wide and presents with crisp black and white tones. Each candidates portrait is surrounded by a draping of flags and scrolling, all held up by a bald eagle. In very fine condition; very clean; minor separation at the lower edge.
1880 Ulysses S. Grant Parade Silk Ribbon. This dark yellow ribbon measures 8" long and 2" wide. The gold lettering reads: "Welcome to General Grant - Hartford, Oct. 16, 1880. Parade". In crisp choice condition; the tassels are slight tarnished but still intact; minor separation on the upper edge; the gold lettering has just begun to fade.
1892 Harrison-Morton Inauguration Medal. This gilt brass medal measures 1.5" wide and 3" long. It is in striking high relief and features the White House in center surmounted by the President and Vice President elects names and surrounded by various foliate and patriotic imagery. Above that is the standard bar where the pin is attached which reads: "Inauguration 1889" and flanked on either side by portraits of Harrison and Morton. A beautiful piece for display; in excellent condition; light tarnish in the areas of deep relief.
Pair Cleveland and Tilden Photo Cufflinks Exceptional 5/8" cufflinks with paper photo inserts on a metal shell. The photos show some wear and distress but display a clear image of each candidate.
Lincoln for President 1864 Silvered White Metal Campaign Medal A different, rather folksy portrait of Abraham Lincoln adorns this example of Sullivan 1864-10, 31 mm, silver with a good deal of original lustre present. A simple, elegant design with patriotic imagery. Minor glue remnants on verso, overall a quite fine example.
Grant and Colfax Campaign Square Nail Issued for Grant's campaign for the presidency is this 2 1/2" long square nail with "Grant and Colfax" embossed in the side. Made of hard metal the nail has the typical square head of the period and could be said to relate to the topic of the day which was reconstruction of the south. Excellent condition.
1893 Benjamin Harrison-Columbian Exposition Woven Ribbon. This unusual ribbon was issued at the Chicago Columbian Exposition in 1892, and is very colorful and conspicuous. The ribbon is red, white, and blue with a few gold adornments on the eagle and flag drapery. Harrison's portrait is in crisp dark colors. The blue tassel hanging below completes the piece. It is in choice, like new condition. A fantastic version of this unusual piece. Measures 2.5" x 6".
Grover Cleveland Photo Stickpin Unusual to find in choice condition, this 5/8" photo pin is encircled with a bright silver frame embossed with the words "For President Grover Cleveland". The paper photo of Cleveland is framed with a red border. Excellent condition.
1880 James A. Garfield Campaign Medal in Copper. Listed as JG 1880-14, measuring 19mm. This is an unusual variant of the standard JG 1880-13, with the Hancock reverse instead of the message about his running for President. Also of note is the fact that most of the metals offered in this variety do not come with the lovely reeded edge we see here, it is often associated primarily with the silver examples. This example features the bust of Garfield on one side and Hancock's on the other, both placed above their respective names. It is unholed and Almost Uncirculated condition; still retains much of its lovely red character; moderate toning on both sides; a few small edge nicks.
Abraham Lincoln Engraving by John C. Buttre. John C. Buttre was a famous American engraver who did portraits of James Buchanan and other presidents, as well as a few images of the Civil War. This engraving Buttre made from a photograph by the renowned shutterbug Matthew Brady. It has been framed in a small wooden oval frame, which is likely the original. It measures to an overall size of 5.75" x 7.5". In excellent condition; the word "Buttre" is somewhat obscured by the frame, this is easily remedied, however. We believe this was produced probably around 1864-1865.
1848 Zachary Taylor Campaign Biography. Facts In The Life Of Gen. Taylor; The Cuba Blood-Hound Importer, The Extensive Slave-Holder, and the Hero Of The Mexican War!!, Charles Stearns, (Boston, Charles Stearns, 1848), 32 pages, original wraps, 5" x 7.5". While this may outwardly seem like a Zachary Taylor promotion, it is in fact an Anti-Taylor piece, which sets out to expose him as a slave-holder who wants to expand the institution and the author also attacks what was formerly the Whig party. This publication is in fine condition; soiling throughout; moderate edge wear and tears; small amount of water damage visible on the upper edge of the front cover.
1892 Grover Cleveland- Adlai Stevenson Cello Campaign Ribbon. This unique and novel ribbon measures 5.5" long and 2" wide. The thin "cello" material is colored red and is transparent; on top of which the images of Cleveland and Stevenson have been set into a gold decorative border, with the words "Our Choice - 1892" above and below. The end of the cello ribbon is rolled up in such a way that it resembles a red carpet. The ribbon is in choice condition; one small crack at the bottom of the ribbon; the gold has somewhat begun to rub off and flake, otherwise this is an interesting and fantastic display piece.
1880 Winfield Scott Hancock Diecut Advertisement. This small advertisement shows a hand holding a small rooster, representing the commonly illustrated pictographic representation "Hand-cock". This was made by "Robert Sneider Engraving & Printing" in New York. The hand is holding a card which reads: "The Next President". Hancock would, of course, lose to James Garfield. In excellent condition; very lightly soiled on the right edge; otherwise crisp and clean. Measures 5.75" x 2.5".
1884 Cleveland-Hendricks Silk Campaign Ribbon. This crisp black and white ribbon features a portrait of Cleveland facing right, surmounted by his name and Hendricks names below. Small geometric and floral designs finish off this tasteful design. In excellent condition; minor fraying at the top edge; very clean save for a small stain in the upper quadrant.
1868 Ulysses S. Grant "Appomatox" Campaign Medal in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt USG 1868-4, and measures 50mm across. This is the unaltered version of this variety, featuring Grant's bust on the obverse and a horse and plow on the reverse. The reverse reads: "The men will need their horses to plow with - Appomatox - Pat. Applied For". The engraver's initials: "T.J.B" appear on the truncation of Grant's bust. This example is in Uncirculated condition; much of the reflective qualities still present; very light edge wear and dings; adhesive residue around the edges.
Unusual Schuyler Colfax Composition Medal This unusual style of medal is 1 1/4" in diameter and made of an early type of composition. Colfax is represented by a nicely embossed bust encircled by his name. The reverse of the "medal" is complete with slogan. The condition of this item is choice considering it's fragile nature. The embossing is off white and in as made condition with a tiny chip hardly seen on the left edge, not effecting the central portion of the piece. A very tough example to find in this condition.
1892 Grover Cleveland Mechanical Chair Pinback and Storecard. The chair should read in full: "The Presidential Chair...Who Shall Occupy It ?" However, on this example the seat mechanism is missing. It would flip open to reveal the candidate's portrait. Note that these chairs came in two sizes and this is the significantly larger version. 1" x 1.875". Not only is this a novel item, but it also comes on its original store display card. The marks of pins that were long ago purchased are still visible! The pin is in excellent shape, save for the missing picture mechanism. The card is also very clean and fully intact.
1888 Grover Cleveland Jugate Campaign Token in Copper. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt GC 1888-16. This tiny token features the busts of Cleveland and Thurman surmount by a shield and scrolling that displays their names. The reverse depicts the White House and the words: "Democratic Candidates - White House - 1888". Similar to BH 1888-16. This scarce token is in Almost Uncirculated condition; still quite red and bright; some light toning overall; a few small dark spots on the reverse, namely at 9 o'clock and 6 o'clock.
Blaine Photo Picture Campaign Pin This sepia toned picture is set in a thin metal shell with prongs holding the picture to the center. Approximately 1" in diameter the pin displays in very fine condition with some minor fading to the image. Back pin is intact but has been resodered. Nice condition for a pre-1896 campaign item.
1884 James G. Blaine Jugate Campaign Token in Gilt Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt JGB 1884-10, and measures 25mm. This obverse features Blaine and Logan facing each other placed in front of three olive branches. The reverse reads: "Republican Candidate 1884 - For President of the United States" enclosed in a wreath of olive branches. In Almost Uncirculated condition; light toning on both sides; moderate edge wear and dings.
Cleveland Photo Portrait Pin Displayed and centered in a thin metal shell type holder, this grover Cleveland campaign item is in excellent near mint condition. Approximately 1" in diameter the metal frame only enhances the crisp look of the picture.
1876 Rutherford B. Hayes Campaign Token in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt RBH 1876-13, measuring 23mm across. The obverse features Hayes' portrait facing left and the words: "Honest Money Honest Government" and to the left of his face: "Rutherford" and to the right: "B. Hayes". The reverse shows the Vice Presidential candidate William Wheeler. Upon receiving the nomination, Hayes asked, "Who is Wheeler?" and he was probably asking the same question when he left office! This example is in fine condition; adhesive residue on both sides and edges; moderate edge wear including several small dents, namely at 11 o'clock; toning visible overall.
1868 Horatio Seymour Campaign Medal in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt HS 1868-3, measuring 32mm across. The dies were done by George Lovett who did several other key pieces during this era. The obverse depicts a bust of Seymour surrounded by thirty-seven stars both large and small in size, and the words: "For President - Horatio Seymour - 1868". The reverse features his running mate Frank Blair in similar fashion. This example is in choice condition; retains much of its reflective properties; very clean with only a few very trivial edge nicks and wear.
1888 James Blaine Hopeful Ribbon, Kansas City In 1888, after his narrow defeat in the previous Presidential election, Blaine refused to seek the nomination again. Instead, he threw his support to eventual winner Benjamin Harrison, which likely secured his position as Secretary of State. Still, Blaine had many stalwart supporters up until the Republican National Convention including, apparently, the Kansas City Republican Club. This ribbon is in fine condition, a most unusual item.
"Let's Pull Together" Uncle Sam and Hitler Mechanical Button. This 1 ½" button shows a lithograph of Uncle Sam pulling a rope to reveal Adolf Hitler hanging by his neck, wearing the German swastika. The mechanism is a small lever under Uncle Sam's right arm, the movement pulls Hitler into sight. A very novel and poignant piece. It is in excellent condition; mechanism still functions; scratching and flaking of the paint has occurred over time; adhesive residue on the pin.
1960 Richard Nixon "Goldwater Says" Campaign Pinback Button. This button measures 1 ¾" and reads: "Goldwater Says Don't Dodge Vote Nixon and Lodge". Oddly enough Goldwater was not a great fan of Nixon was even quoted as saying he was the most dishonest individual he had ever met. However, party loyalty is important and Goldwater's caustic wit would allow him to appreciate the irony of this later! In choice condition; light overall toning.
1916 Charles E. Hughes Campaign Photo Badge. This 6.5" long ribbon sports a fantastic 1 ¼" photo pin of Hughes. Once you get past a few common, nationally distributed varieties, Charles Evans Hughes presidential pins are very tough, especially in this large size. The ribbon reads: "Municipal Ownership League" on a white silk piece that has been backed with a cornflower blue piece. Overall this has a fresh appearance and is very choice; the photo pin itself has several small spots in the emulsion; minor soiling on the ribbon itself; selvage at the bottom.
1900 Bryan and Stevenson 2 1/8" Pinback Button. This is a classic and somewhat deceptively rare variety, especially in this large size. Outwardly it bears the patriotic red, white, and blue motif but on a closer look one can see a very light almost metallic finish to the button, giving it a magnificent appearance. This example is clean and choice; one very trivial scratch at 7 o'clock on the obverse.
1904 Teddy Roosevelt "Lady Liberty" Jugate Pinback Button. This 1 ¼" button is very colorful and features the portraits of both candidates above the open arms of Lady Liberty. The gold rays extend out above their heads in this decadent variety! In choice condition; light rusting on the metal rim on verso; small dark spot at 3 o'clock on the front.
1908 Taft-Sherman 1 ¼" Jugate Pinback Button. This black and white jugate features the 1908 candidates for President and Vice President. Their names appear below the portraits; it is a minimalist button to be certain but is very clean and crisp. In choice condition; a few barely visible dents on the face.
Eisenhower and Davis 1 ¼" Coat Tail Pinback. This is an unusual coat tail piece for President Eisenhower. In excellent condition; light overall toning.
1948 Truman and Barkley 3 ½" Campaign Button. This attractive design is especially nice as it is easily mated with a Dewey - Warren in the same design. Comes in several sizes, this example, being large and conspicuous is very nice with only some minor overall toning. The button was manufactured with an off white paper, so the slightly toned look does not detract much; also has several areas of stress, namely near Barkley's portrait.
1936 Alf Landon 7/8" Jugate Campaign Button. This black and white jugate features the portraits of Landon and Knox against a dark background. Landon ran against the extremely popular Franklin D. Roosevelt. This button is in choice condition; very clean; an excellent piece for display.
1944 Key Roosevelt-Truman Jugate Campaign Button. This was the only jugate design produced for this ticket. This is the 1" version and is in choice condition. The value of this variety has steadily increased over the years and should continue to do so. Slightly rusted on the verso; otherwise clean!
Adlai Stevenson 3" Campaign Button. This light cream-colored button boasts in bold blue print: "Arizona Likes Adlai". Light overall toning and some minor soiling around the edges; otherwise very nice!
1940 Wendell Willkie 2" "For President" Campaign Button. This button is often seen in the 7/8" size and is quite common in that variety. However, this large size is quite scarce and all the more conspicuous! A very clean and crisp example save for just some light rusting on the verso. A great chance to pick up this seldom seen version.
Farmer-Labor 1 ¼" Campaign Pinback Button. This blue and cream colored button was made to promote the Farmer-Labor Party. The Farmer-Labor Party was founded in 1918 and merged with the Minnesota Democratic Party in 1944. It had moderate success as an active third-party in the state of Minnesota electing several high-ranking officials. This button commemorated this party, and is a wonderful third party example for any collection. It is in excellent condition; light overall toning on the cream-colored area; light mildew on the backpaper.
1924 Classic John W. Davis 7/8" Campaign Button. Davis is one of the toughest candidates in buttons, and this is an especially popular variety as there is an exact mate for his opponent, Coolidge. In excellent condition; slight rusting on the verso as well as a torn back paper.
1912 Theodore Roosevelt 1" Campaign Button. This lovely red, white, and blue button reads: "Preparedness - T.R. - Peace". In 1912 Teddy likely put his bid in for the presidency slight late and would ultimately lose to Woodrow Wilson, however, this election was instrumental in much of his popularity among collectors due to the creation of the "Bull Moose Party". The button is in excellent condition; light overall toning; some bleeding of the red ink onto the white.
1896 Bryan and Sewell Mechanical Bird and Gold Bug Pinback. The 1896 election was focused heavily on the Gold and Silver standards, which were represented by gold and silver bugs throughout the campaign. This particular pin features a bird with a tiny gold bug captured in this beak, and the wings would open to reveal portraits of Bryan and Sewall. The example offered here is missing those portraits but is still a wonderful and unusual novelty for one of the most interesting elections on record. It is in choice condition aside from the missing photos; slightly tarnished. Measures 1.75" long.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower Signed Picture Book. Signed: "Dwight D. Eisenhower". This Is Ike - The Picture Story of the Man, Wilson Hicks, (Henry Holt and Company, New York, 1952), first edition, approximately 50 pages, 8.5" x 11". This book was published to honor President Eisenhower and his life. Comes complete with the former President's signature on the top of the cover. In very fine condition; cover slightly torn and worn; corners bumped and creased; paper yellowed moderately due to low quality paper stock.

1848 Taylor & Fillmore Currier Grand National Banner. In 1848 Currier did their jugate prints in both horizontal and vertical formats. Historically, the horizontal version has commanded the higher price, probably because it was unique to that year. However, judging from the number on the market over the last few years, this vertical style is probably actually scarcer. This item has been framed to an overall size of 10.75" x 15". The condition is good; moderately stained throughout, it is likely water damage coupled with some acid degradation; light cracking of the paper especially on Taylor's face.
Four Dwight D. Eisenhower Pinback Buttons and Ribbon. This lot includes five pieces from Ike and Dick's 1952 and 1956 campaign runs. The first piece is a 3 ½" red, white, and blue jugate button featuring the Republican elephant on either side of each candidate. In excellent condition; mild rusting and crazing on the verso. The second button measures 3 ½" and celebrates Eisenhower Day, which occurred on October 1, 1956. It is also in excellent condition; mild adhesive residue on the verso. The third button also celebrates "Ike Day" but does not have a specific date listed. It measures 2 ¼" across and is in fine condition; some of the red ink has slightly bled out into the white background; verso lightly rusted. The fourth and final button measures 2 ¼" and reads: "Junior Ike and Dick Club". A few minor chips and nicks on the obverse; otherwise excellent. The final item in this lot is a very crisp white ribbon that reads: "Eisenhower-Nixon Inaugural - January 20, 1952 - Washington, D.C. - Ohio". In almost new condition; one small crease near the letter "I" in "Ohio".
1952 Robert Taft "I'm Daft About Taft" Campaign Badge. This famous button featuring Alfred E. Newman was made to support Robert Taft in his bid for the Republican nomination for President in 1952. Below this badge is a ribbon that reads: "Circus Saints and Sinners". The Circus Saints and Sinners is a charitable organization that has been around for many years supporting various charities and events. This handsome ribbon combines two interesting themes and is a perfect specimen for display! Measuring 9" long; the button itself is 4" across. In excellent condition; minor fraying on the end of the ribbon.
Pair of Ray Bliss Badges. Ray Bliss was a key leader in the Republican party in the 50s and 60s, and even served as Chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1965 to 1969. The election of Richard Nixon was the culmination of his career. These two badges celebrate two important events during his illustrious run in the "GOP". The first one is from the 1969 Inauguration of Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew, which occurred on January 20, 1969 in Washington, D.C. The badge itself is a lovely dark purple with gold lettering, it is suspended from a gilt brass bar with the words :Inaugural Committee" on it. Below this bar is a small medal suspended from a red, white, and blue ribbon, which reads "Chairman". It is in excellent condition; moderate fading of the gold lettering; slight tarnish on the bar and medal; no fraying. Measures 7.25" long.
The second ribbon is from the Republican National Convention of 1960 that was held in Chicago Illinois. Bliss was a delegate for the state of Ohio in 1956 and 1960. The ribbon itself is red, white, and blue and supports a gilt brass hanging set of metal bards. The entire piece reads: "National Committee - Ray C. Bliss - State Chairman - Delegate". In excellent condition; minor tarnish on the three hanging bars; ribbon slightly soiled. Measures 7.5" long.
Pair of Hancock and Garfield Campaign China Plates. These plates are not a matching pair or set but both feature candidates of the 1880 election. Garfield was elected in the end but was assassinated after only six months in office. The Garfield plate measures 8" in diameter and has the maker's mark of N.J. Potter Company on the backside. There is no text on the obverse of this plate just a black and white portrait of Garfield. The plate has no cracks or edge chips; adhesive residue present on the lower rim and some slight soiling.
The Winfield Hancock plate measures 8.5" in diameter and has the maker's mark of Stone Porcelain on the verso. The words "For President Winfield S. Hancock" appear below a portrait of Hancock in much the same style of the Garfield portrait. The plate exhibits no cracks or edge chips; some slight soiling and dirt on the face; one blemish at 4 o'clock; slight crazing under the glaze as well. This pair will make a nice display for this ticket.
Pair of Cleveland and Logan Campaign China Plates. This lot features candidates from the 1884 election, however, Cleveland was the Presidential candidate and Logan was the Vice Presidential candidate on Blaine's ticket. Both of these plates measure 8" in diameter and have the same maker's mark on the reverse which is unreadable. Both have a gilt border and black and white portrait of each candidate. Their names appear below the portraits. The Cleveland plate is in excellent condition with just some slight soiling and flaking of the gilt border. The Logan plate has two glass bubbles on the verso and some soiling on the obverse. A nice pair for this election year.
1900 Rare Oval Tin Litho Serving Tray with Bryan and Stevenson. Oddly, the Bryan & Stevenson variety of this tray is many times scarcer than its McKinley & Roosevelt mate, in any condition. This is not a clean specimen but is no less scarce! Has several nicks on the surface including a large one on the face of Stevenson; edge nicks around the perimeter and one rusty perforation in the center of the tray.
1908 Taft and Sherman Litho Tin Tip Tray. 9.5" in diameter this small tray is in nearly perfect condition with just a few edge nicks and blemishes on the backside. This "Grand Old Party" tray is a favorite among collectors and this clean example is certainly a rarity!
William McKinley Commemorative Campaign Tray. These tin litho trays are always popular with collectors. This handsome portrait of McKinley is richly toned with deep colors and shading. The portrait is enclosed in a foliate wreath border. There are several small nicks along the edge; a few small nicks on the face of the President.
President Benjamin Harrison Commemorative Tile on Marble. These tiles appear time to time with various presidents including Cleveland and Coolidge, this one however, is attached to a piece of black and white marble. The purple color of the tile and it's shallow relief are starkly offset by the white matte surface of the marble. An impressive display. These tiles are always popular with 3D collectors and this one will be no exception! It is holed at the top for hanging; several small blemishes on the marble from oxidation and rust stains. The tile itself is clean and excellent.

Political
John F. Kennedy Photo Group and Ted Kennedy Signed Photo. This lot consists of eight photographs, seven of them press shots of President Kennedy and one is a signed and inscribed photograph of Ted Kennedy as a young man. The seven photos of Kennedy are all in black and white and many of them show him walking with Jackie. Two of them feature Caroline, his daughter, including one where she visits him in the Oval Office and "lectures" him on her day. Kennedy is shown listening intently in a very cute and personal photograph. All seven Kennedy photos are in excellent condition aside from a few small bends and creases on the corners. The Ted Kennedy photo shows a young Kennedy facing off to the side. The inscription reads: "To Les Sylvor- With very best wishes and thanks- Ted Kennedy. 1975." Vietnam War Archive of Thomas J. Corcoran. Thomas J. Corcoran was a career foreign service officer and American advisor in Vietnam. This collection spans from 1942 through the 1970s. Of special interest are the photographs he took and collected during the early days of the Vietnam War. One set of photographs focuses on the violent protests in Hue in May 1966. The pictures show protestors gutting the United States Information Service Library, burning bookcases and throwing books and furniture out the windows as well as the destroyed American consulate, burned by the same protestors. Corcoran's collection is a historically significant visual record of foreign service in a turbulent Southeast Asia. The collection includes: 107 Vietnam photos; assorted printed materials (letters, poem, Vietnam money exchange certificate, etc); two booklets; telephone directory from the U.S. Embassy; American State Department Superior Honor Award certificate; Commendation certificate from the President of the Republic of Vietnam; Commendation from the President of the Republic of Vietnam honoring Corcoran as Consul of the United States at Hanoi; 80 photos in album of Cambodian temples, ruins, statues. A fantastic lot for those interested in this controversial foreign war. Approximately 200 items.
Political
Pair of Eisenhower-Nixon "I like Ike and Dick" License Plates. A great pair of items for this ticket. The first item is a license plate attachment of an unusual shape. It is red and white and features portraits of both men. Measuring 9.25" x 3.75", this example is in good condition but is rusted and chipped on the edges. Still excellent for display. The second item is an actual license plate with the same graphics and slogan. This example measures 12" x 5.5" and is in good condition. This one also has rusting and oxidation spots around the edges and on the reverse. Also still in excellent condition for display.

Horatio Seymour Engraving. A handsome engraving of a young looking Seymour set into an oval mat with a gold border and his name printed at the base. Measures 8" x 10" in the round. In good condition for display, some slight staining and wear on the mat but the engraving is virtually untouched. One small blemish at 3 o'clock on the engraving.
1856 "The Democrat" Flyer. This paper was printed in Lancaster, on Wednesday, October 8th, 1856. The small headline reads "Union Now and Forever." The flyer features a story about Buchanan support and a small cartoon and song about the flag. Two quotes complete the flyer, they read "That country is the most prosperous where LABOR commands the greatest reward. -Buchanan" and "From my soul I respect the Laboring man. -Buchanan" In excellent condition with some slight cockeling. There is a small place where the paper has turned white from staining. Otherwise excellent.
1881 "Death of President Garfield" Broadside. This broadside is dated September 20, 1881 and is from the Village of Marion. It reads: "Mayor's Proclamation. It is fit and proper that the Citizens of Marion join in the sad observance of this day of universal sorrow. By request of many citizens, and in behalf of the people of Marion, it is recommended that, as far as possible, to-day be observed as a day of mourning; that business be suspended as far as practicable; that a PUBLIC MEETING! be held in the Court House Yard, at 3 o'clock P.M., that all our people may unite in a public manifestation of their sorrow and sympathy. Eugene V. Debs Poster. Debs ran for president in 1900, 1904, 1908, 1912, and 1920 and his campaign items are all scarce and sought-after by collectors. Pinback buttons and postcards are most often seen for this candidate. Posters and large portrait prints are quite rare, while this one is not clearly marked as a campaign piece, it is still a nice display piece for this candidate! The poster features a portrait of Debs as well as is name and the announcement: "Wheeling, West Va. Victoria Theater Sunday, March 13th 2:30 p.m." In excellent condition with several bends and tears; the most significant being on the right edge and on the right of Debs' portrait. There is also some slight water staining on the lower edge.

In excellent condition with several dark areas in the left upper and lower corners and right edge entirely. Small hole present near William Henry Harrison's portrait. Frame slightly dinged up but intact.
Unusual Franklin Delano Roosevelt Oil Painting in Frame. No artist has signed this commemorative piece of artwork. It depicts a patriotic collage of images all centered around a sfumato-esque portrait of FDR. Framed to an overall size of 12 1/4" x 16". In excellent condition; a few minor scratches on the frame. A unique piece for this popular president.
Abraham Lincoln Lithograph by H.H. Lloyd. This item is half of a jugate lithograph produced by LLoyd in 1865. The jugate version also depicts Andrew Johnson. This lithograph is rare in any form, so the fact that it is missing it's partner portrait is of little importance. Lloyd was known for his oversized campaign charts so a piece like this is always desirable. It is framed in period glass, to an overall size of 11" x 14.5" The original red and blue colors are still bright and vibrant . The paper itself is yellowed slightly and several tears are visible under the glass. Still an impressive piece for display.
Henry Wallace Campaign Group Lot. This lot contains eight items which were used during Henry Wallace's failed 1948 campaign run. The first five items are a press kit which was sent to various newspapers around the country. It contains two advertising mats and two proofs which depicts a small cartoon of Wallace and an advertisement to listen to him speak on NBC. The next item is a paper and plastic military style hat that reads "Wallace for Veterans." This green and white hat is in near mint condition with just a few small soiling spots. The seventh item is a small bookmark that reads "We Want Wallace." This blue and white novelty measures 2 1/4" x 6 3/4" and is in mint condition. The final item is an unusual piece, a small record, entitled "Great Day" sung by Michael Loring and was produced by Peoples Songs Inc. The back features a little anti-Republican and Democrat poem as well as the Donkey and Elephant walking in circles looking beaten and tired. The poem reads: "Which one will you ride this year? The donkey is tired and thin and the elephant thinks he'll move in, they all yell and fuss but they ain't foolin' us cause they're brothers under the skin. It's the same, same merry-go-round." The record is still in excellent condition and looks to be still playable! A great lot for this obscure campaign run!
Civil War "The Cost of a Rebel Peace" Union Broadside. This 11.5" x 16" broadside is entitled "THE COST OF A REBEL PEACE. PLAIN WORDS FOR WORKING-MEN." It was printed in order to help the layman understand the cost of war and the important of support Lincoln and the Union Generals. It is two columns long and reads in part: "The war is costly; there is no doubt of that. Taxes are heavy and prices are high. And so some are crying: 'Let us stop the war! Let us have armistice, and get cheap bread!' But think a moment- how long we have had the best Government in the world without being taxed for it all; and now that the rebels are trying to steal from us nearly half our territory, we ought to be willing to pay what it costs to hold our own...Our only hope of better days is in putting down the rebellion, and so gaining a Union peace. Reenforce Grant and Sherman- reelect Abraham Lincoln- and soon the rebellion will go down, and gold will go down, and the prices will go down, and peace and plenty will come again to the home of the working-man."
The broadside was printed for the Union Executive Congressional Committee, by Jon A. Gray & Green of New York. In excellent condition; the right edge has several tears and a large chunk missing; there is a water spot in the upper left corner; folds down x and y-axis.
John Wilkes Booth Albumen Print Imperial Cabinet Card. This handsome albumen print measures 6 3/4" x 9 3/4" and features the notorious and much photographed John Wilkes Booth. Some say Booth was the second most photographed man of the 19th century. This image of "America's Brutus" is in excellent condition with a few minor flaws; a scuff in the upper left near Booth's head; a long black line diagonal down the length of his body; some slight soiling present; pencil marks and writing on the verso.
1960 John F. Kennedy Campaign Poster. This red, white, and blue poster reads "A Time For Greatness - Kennedy For President." It measures 13" x 21" and is in near mint condition with one small tear above the letter "Y" in Kennedy. The bottom portion of the poster reads "Jack DeWitt, Vice President and Secretary, Wisconsin Volunteers For Kennedy. 110 East Main Street, Madison, Wisconsin."
General George B. McClellan Civil War Token in Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt GMcC 1864-36. Measures 19mm and has the "One Cent" marking on the verso enclosed by a wreath of oak and an olive branch. In almost uncirculated condition with a lovely dark chocolate patina.
1860 Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas Medal Pair. The Abraham Lincoln example is listed as Sullivan-Dewitt AL 1860-43, measures 28mm, and is struck in white metal. The Douglas version is listed as SD 1860-11, measures 28mm, and is struck in brass. The reverse on both declares "Liberty Union and Equality" which seems an appropriate Lincolnian slogan; however, matching pieces are also known for Bell. The lack of a Breckinridge in the set probably reflects the fact that use of this slogan would have been too much of a stretch in his case. Condition is excellent. The Douglas example has some slight soiling on both sides.
1864 George B. McClellan Medalet in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt 1864-19, measures 31mm. In almost uncirculated condition, still retaining much of it's reflective surfaces. There is some slight soiling on both sides. The verso proclaims "The Peoples Choice For President." This particular example is holed at 12 o'clock.
Pair of George B. McClellan 1864 Medalets in White Metal and Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt GMcC 1864-14, this version also comes in silver and copper. Offered here are the white metal and brass examples. They measure 32mm and the dies were made by George H. Lovett of New York. This is a companion piece to AL 1864-7 with the same reverse. Both are in almost uncirculated condition with some light soiling on both sides. The white metal example is holed. The brass example has a blemish on the forehead of McClellan.
1860 Abraham Lincoln "Honest Abe of the West" Token in Copper Nickel. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt AL 1860-73, measures 19mm. This token was muled with several reverses but this one was cut by George H. Lovett for William Liggett Bramhall. The reverse reads "The Hannibal of America 1860." In almost uncirculated condition with a lovely patina and very little soiling.
1860 Stephan Douglas "For President" Medal in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt SD 1860-2, this medal measures 38mm. The mate to AL 1860-18 (this design was made for all four 1860 candidates). A choice example with full luster. Some small blemishes and soiling present on the reverse. Some trivial tiny rim nicks, often the case on large medals struck of this notoriously soft white metal.
1860 Stephan Douglas "The Champion of Popular Sovereignty" Medalet in White Metal. Listed in Sullivan-Dewitt as SD 1860-9, measures 28mm. Dies by Lovett of Philadelphia. In excellent condition; has a slight rainbow effect on both sides.
1876 Samuel J. Tilden "Democratic Party Died of Tildenopathy" Medalet in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt SJT 1876-6, measuring 31mm. Issued post-election, commemorating a meeting of the Manhattan Club on June 12, 1877. The meaning of the quote "I Don't Care About Your Piece of Cake, But I Must Show You My Sore Toe" has eluded history. Brilliant proof-like GEM.
1860 Abraham Lincoln "Rail Splitter" Medalet in Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt AL 1860-41, measures 28mm. This medal saw wide distribution during the campaign and was muled out with many different reverses. The reverse on this one shows "The Rail Splitter of the West" splitting rails as helper Stephen Douglas looks on (ever constant in his subordinate position to Lincoln!) In excellent condition with a lovely dark patina on both sides.
1876 Samuel J. Tilden "The Great Fraud" Medalet in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt 1876-7, measures 31mm. Three of these anti-Tilden medalets were issued in 1876 to poke fun at the Democrat who was robbed of the election. The meanings of the "inside jokes" elude us now. This example is in excellent condition, retaining much of it's reflective qualities; the obverse displays some slight wear on the face of Tilden, this is common since he is in such high relief.
1864 Abraham Lincoln/Andrew Johnson Ferrotype. Listed as Sulllivan-Dewitt AL 1864-96, measures 25mm, with a brass shell. "For President," "For Vice President" on either side of brass frame. An affordable example of this sought-after "type" variety, which can be "mated" with a matching McClellan/Pendleton. 1864 Lincoln ferros are considerably tougher than those from 1860, probably because numerous varieties with cardboard photos, sold more cheaply, stole much of the market. The Lincoln side of this particular example is badly faded and worn, the Johnson side is only slightly darkened.
1861 Anti-Confederate "Death To Traitors" Medalet in Brass. Listed as 1861-13, measures 25mm. This medalet features Jefferson Davis hanging dead on the gallows on the obverse and on the reverse are the words "Death To Traitors." In very fine condition with a lovely dark patina on both sides; a small blemish on the reverse at 2 o'clock.
1868 Seymour and Blair Medal in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt HS 1868-1, measures 38mm. This is a companion piece to USG 1868-6; the dies were made by Emil Siegel of New York. In excellent condition, the obverse shows no wear to the extremely high relief; the only issue is that both sides show some soiling and some trivial nicks on the edges.
1864 General George B. McClellan High Relief Medal in Silver. Listed as GMcC 1864-88, measures 44mm. The obverse reads "Geo. B. McClellan Major Gen. U.S.A". and the reverse reads "Amore, Patriae, Belligerum." In very fine condition with some major wear on the obverse especially on the face of McClellan which sits in high relief. The edges also show some striations of wear and scratching.
Pair of 1868 Horatio Seymour "General Amnesty" Medalets in Brass and Silvered Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt HS 1868-7, measures 28mm. The obverse features a jugate bust of Seymour and Blair and the reverse reads "General Amnesty, Uniform Currency, Equal Taxes, & Equal Rights." The brass example is holed and has several flecks and blemishes on the obverse. The silvered brass example has a nice patina but also some heavy soiling, moreso on the obverse.
Unlisted 1888 Benjamin Harrison "Protection and Reciprocity" Medalet in White Metal. This medalet is unlisted in Sullivan-Dewitt and measures 28mm. In uncirculated condition; the only problems being some trivial edge nicks and a cracked dye mark on the obverse above the head of Harrison.
1872 Horace Greeley "For President" Medalet in White Metal. Listed HG 1872-6, measuring 25mm. This medal declares some of the eccentric reformer's campaign planks: "Universal Amnesty Revenue Reform and Impartial Suffrage." Needless to say, he was a little ahead of his time and outside the mainstream. Condition on this scarce medal is very nice aside from some wear on the obverse on the high relief bust of Greeley. It is holed at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. An affordable version of this somewhat scarce medalet.
1872 Horace Greeley "Candidate For President of the Liberal Republicans" in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt HG 1872-1, measures 31mm. A bust of Greeley is the centerpiece of this medal which depicts the eccentric editor in a favorable light. Brilliant Uncirculated, and an always popular "No. 1" item, the largest campaign medal for this candidate.
1860 Abraham Lincoln "Republican Candidate" Medalet in Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt AL 1860-43, measuring 28mm. The reverse declares "Liberty Union and Equality" which seems an appropriate Lincolnian slogan; however, matching pieces are known for Douglas and Bell. The lack of a Breckinridge in the set probably reflects the fact that use of this slogan would have been too much of a stretch in his case. Condition is excellent, aside from some soiling and several dark blemishes on the obverse.
1876 Tilden/Hendricks Jugate Medalet in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt SJT 1876-11, measures 22mm. This was the companion piece to WBH 1876-14. A very "folksy" piece with the ribbon still intact. Holed with some slight wear and nicks on the edges.
1864 Abraham Lincoln "For President" Token in Brass. Listed as AL 1864-36, measures 22mm. This piece has a companion McClellan piece that is unlisted. On the obverse is a portrait of Lincoln and on the reverse is a simple star surrounded by an oak and olive branch wreath. Shows wear on both sides as well as dark soiling especially on the obverse.
Unusual Andrew Jackson 2nd Inaugural Token in Silver. Listed as AJack 1832-4, measures 18mm. This is the 1861 restrike of the 1832 original. The reverse features a bust of a man facing right instead of the typical inauguration dates. In very nice condition with a dark patina; some slight wear present on the faces of the men as they are in high relief.
1872 Horace Greeley "Candidate for President of the Liberal Republicans" Medalet in Silver. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt HG 1872-1, measures 31mm. Although Horace Greeley ran as the candidate of two parties in 1872, this handsome medal declares him as the "Candidate of the Liberal Republicans 1872." #1 medals are quite desirable, as they usually represent both the largest and showiest of the medals produced in a particular campaign. Soiled considerably on both sides with a dark patina.
1864 Abraham Lincoln "Freedom To All Men" Medalet in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt AL 1864-5, measuring 32mm. Signed by engraver "W.H. Key F." below bust. "Lincoln and Johnson Union Candidates/Freedom to All Men." Choice, virtually Uncirculated condition with just some light soiling on both sides. Still retains some of it's reflective qualities.
General George B. McClellan Civil War Token in Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt GMcC 1864-36. Measures 19mm and has the "One Cent" marking on the verso enclosed by a wreath of oak and an olive branch. In almost uncirculated condition with a lovely dark red patina. Much of the original red luster still shines through.
1864 George B. McClellan "Uniface" Medalet in Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt GMcC 1864-17a, measures 31mm. In choice, uncirculated condition with only tiny scratches on the reverse.
1864 Abraham Lincoln "For President" Medalet in Silvered Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt AL 1864-10, measures 31mm. A different, rather folksy portrait of Abraham Lincoln adorns this example. A simple, elegant design with patriotic imagery. Silver has worn away on both sides leaving a nice rich patina; overall a quite fine example.
1860 Abraham Lincoln "Millions for Freedom" Medalet in Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt AL 1860-60, measuring 24mm. One of the earliest medals struck in the campaign; apparently they were shipped by the keg-full during the campaign. The slogan of "Not One Cent For Slavery" represented Lincoln's views on the subject! A choice example with a nice patina on both sides.
Pair of 1888 Cleveland and Harrison Jugate Tokens in Copper and Bronze. This pair of 1888 jugate tokens are listed as GC 1888-6 and BH 1888-13 respectively in Sullivan-Dewitt. Both are in excellent condition with lovely dark chocolate patinas. A nice pair for this election.
Pair of 1880 Winfield Scott Hancock Campaign Medalets in Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt WSH 1880-3 and WSH 1880-4; these medalets both measure 25mm. The first medalet (1880-3) is similar to JG 1880-8 and is often seen with a rooster clasp. This example is holed and has some slight wear on the reverse. The 1880-4 example is the companion piece to JG 1880-10 and is also holed. It is in uncirculated condition and looks pristine.
1897 William McKinley Inaugural Token in Copper. The obverse features a right facing bust of McKinley and his name; the obverse depicts the U.S. Capitol building and the words "Inaugurated President U.S. March 4, 1897." In pristine condition with a dark chocolate patina.
1872 Horace Greeley "Liberal Republican Candidate for President of the United States" in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt HG 1872-4, measuring 28mm. A scarce example in any condition; this one is in very nice shape with some slight wear on soiling on the higher points of relief; holed.
1860 Abraham Lincoln "Rail Splitter of the West" Medalet in Brass. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt AL 1860-41, measuring 28mm. One of the great politicals! The classic "Rail Splitter" token, holed for suspension. As noted by Jonathan H. Mann, publisher of The Rail Splitter - A Journal for the Lincoln Collector, this token was part of a huge marketing campaign to shape Lincoln's image as the ideal American: "The "Rail Splitter" appellation refers to an early period in Lincoln's life when he toiled on the frontier, clearing the land, building a homestead. As a candidate for president in 1860, Lincoln campaigned as the 'Rail Splitter of the West,' a slogan and image that propelled him to the White House." Typical wear, minor vertigre, still a fine specimen.
1860 Abraham Lincoln "No More Slave Territory" Medalet in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt Al 1860-38, measuring 31mm. This popular medal with a youthful portrait of Lincoln proclaims "No More Slave Territory." Condition is generally excellent with some areas of tarnish or oxidation, more so on the reverse. The obverse is quite clean and there is no appreciable wear. Overall, a very fine specimen.
1834 Andrew Jackson "Hard Times" Brass Token. This particular pro-Jackson token measures 28mm and is listed as Sullivan-Dewitt CE 1834-27. This is one of the few tokens which had a positive message about Jackson; the reverse reads, "We Commemo(at) The Glorious Victories of Our Hero in War & in Peace." A portrait of Jackson sits in the center of the obverse; looking more like Nero than Jackson though! The token is in excellent condition; both sides are soiled slightly and there is a dark patina present on both sides,
1888 Cleveland/Thurman Rubber Campaign Token. Listed as GC 1888-37, measures 32mm. These tokens are found in red, white, and blue hard rubber; this red version is in nearly uncirculated condition with a scintilla of soiling the low points of relief.
1880 James Garfield "For President" Campaign Token. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt JG 1880-22, measures 35mm and is set into a tin shell. The reverse is blank with just the impression of the obverse on it. In excellent condition with some slight wear on the higher points of relief, this is common for softer metals especially one stamped this thin.
Gen. George B. McClellan "The War of 1861, 1862, 1863, & 1864" Medalet in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt GMcC 1864-8c, measures 34mm. H. J. Heinz Dated 1885 Three Wooden Jelly Buckets 2 1/2" tall with colorful paper labels and keystone logo that Heinz has made so recognizable. Each held a different type of jelly; Quince, Lemon and Blackberry. The labels show minimal wear with minor nicks to the paper edges. Many have assumed that these could have been used for samples similar to the ones given out at the World's Fair in 1893 and 1904, but they could have just as easily been offered at the market to service wealthier buyers who preferred not to can their own. Each bucket still retains its original bail, making these very prized original containers.
Heinz "Spiced Gherkins" Display Jar. Measuring 9" tall this bottle has a beautiful green tint and very thick glass. The label is amazing, and depicts a small sailboat near a waterfall on the popular keystone shaped background. The blues, greens, and reds offset each other with dark saturated tones that truly compliment the overall hue of the glass. Heinz "Extra Family Mince Meat" Crock. Heinz's graphic advertising of the turn of the century carried through to their product container. The color label on this canning crock container proves to be one of the nicest and most rare of their brands. The original label is only enhanced by the excellent form of the 9"canning crock with its snap lid. The label has two light digs to the paper in two letters of the wording and one with minor paper loss along the right edge. Heinz colors usually were in the green and red variation; this label is in a bright pink accented with gold and the lovely shape of the "keystone" label. It bears a back label as well, which touts the products purity and quality as well as directions for use. The crock is in excellent condition; one small chips around the truncation and a few small spots of wear near the bottom. The labels are also in excellent condition; minor chipping on both; back label is slightly soiled throughout.
Heinz "Extra Malt Vinegar" Globe Display Jar. Heinz Vinegar Display Jar with early "Keystone Brand" label, in excellent condition, standing 11" tall. The condition is excellent; the jar slightly dirty but it does not suffer from any sickness; the label is moderately soiled but otherwise fantastic.
Heinz Standard Quality "Apple Butter" Crock with Original Lid and Handle. Displays a colorful graphic label depicting all the fine fruit that Heinz put in their products. An infusion of the leaves of the tarragon plant in a blend of fine distilled grain and fermented malt vinegars, by which is secured a pleasing fragrance and agreeable flavor much appreciated in dressing salads and for flavoring various articles of food in which vinegar is used." The old uniform and glove give this picture great appeal and display quality appearance. He is wearing a dark cap and stands before a background painted to look like leaves. The photo is in very fine condition; only a few very slight areas of staining on the players body; edge and corner wear moderate.
Group of Western Themed Photographs. This lot features three photos all of different mediums and different scenes, but they all share the West as a common theme. The first is a postcard, measuring 5.5" x 3.5", featuring two young men dressed in cowboy attire, even down to the woolies. However, they look more like Yosemite Sam than John Wayne! To top off the slightly contrived clothing and poses, they are standing in front of a background of the sea. Nevertheless, this charming postcard is in very fine condition; very lightly soiled overall; corners are bent and rounded. The second photo is a small tintype, measuring 3.25" x 2", and shows a large group of oxen and several small wagons. The photo is somewhat light and faded, but the image is still quite visible. He may very well have been White Horse, however, we were unable to find any other photographs of such a man. Nevertheless, he is seated by presumably his wife and small child. They are wearing traditional clothing and have beautiful hairstyles. The photo is in fine condition; it has suffered some burn damage so it is very brittle; one corner is chipped off and missing; moderate toning overall.
Group of Three Cowboy Photographs. This lot features some lovely photographs of men in cowboy/western attire. The first photograph measures 5" x 7" and shows two men who appear to be sheriffs. They have the bronze star on their chests; the younger man is likely his deputy. Both men are armed and dressed in clothing typical of the West around the turn of the century. However, they are standing in front of a tropical themed background! The photo is in fine condition; moderately soiled on the mat and emulsion; edge wear is moderate and some chipping as has occurred on the matting; two dark black spots near the older man's hat detract minimally. The second photo measures 3.5" x 5.25" and shows three young men who were likely cattlemen or ranch hands. They are wearing typical western work wear. The man seated on the right is identified on the back as Lon, and one of the other two is Arlie Lee, though it is not specific as to which one. The photo is in very fine condition; slightly soiled, as it is in a white mat; lightly faded and washed-out looking; otherwise excellent for display. The third and final photo is actually a postcard and measures 5.5" x 3.5". The subject of the photo is three young men wearing gunslinger outfits and armed to the teeth. One is even in a quick draw pose! The postcard is in fine condition; it has been burned slight on the obverse, more so on the right side; several creases and cracks affect the emulsion; moderately soiled.

The third and final photo measures 10" x 8" and shows a large group of men clowning around and posing inside an old barbershop. The photo is in very fine condition with only a few areas of soiling on the emulsion; the corners have begun to separate from the matting.
Gutta Percha Union Case and Handsome Ambrotype of a Couple. The maker of this case was Littlefield, Parson & Co., who were in business from 1857 to 1866 so this ambrotype likely dates to that period (their clothes also attest to this hypothesis). The image depicts a young couple seated next to each other. The ambrotype is hand tinted on the faces and the gold necklace the women wears. The ambrotype is in excellent condition with only a few flaws; there are two areas of oxidation; one on the bottom edge and another on the right edge near the woman's head. There are also small areas where the black backing has chipped off; the most noticeable being on the man's neck. The case itself is gutta percha and has a green velvet insert opposite of the ambrotype. The case is catalogued in Krainik as #17 (The Sweet Potato Dinner). This model of case was based on a painting by John Blake White entitled General Marion in Swamp Encampment Inviting a British Officer to Share His Meal. Francis Marion was also known as the "Swamp Fox." The case is near mint condition with a small flake missing on the upper left corner. Quarter-Plate.

Group of Two Daguerreotypes and One Ambrotype of Women. These three images all depict women; the first two are daguerreotypes and are slightly earlier in date than the ambrotype image. The first daguerreotype is a ninth plate and in a leatherette union case. The clasp and leather hinge are still intact which is rare for cases of this age. The outside of the case has a flower and oval design typical of later gutta-percha type cases. The woman herself has her hair up and she is dressed nicely. She is still quite visible despite the mirroring effect which occurs on dags. The second daguerreotype is a sixth plate and is also in a leatherette case. The case has a floral design. The woman is still quite visible but the mirroring effect is greater on this example. There is a slightly rainbow effect around the border of the picture. The hinges on this dag are tearing away and the leather case itself is very scratched. The third item is a large, handsome quarter plate ambrotype of a woman. The case is dark black and made of gutta-percha. It is listed in Krainik "Union Cases" as "Tiny Heads" #56. This is a scarce case and is in mint condition. The case alone is an impressive specimen! The photograph of the woman is also nice There is a little stipple effect of oxidation spots on her face and background. The case and mount was done by Critchlow and Company. A fantastic trio of women's images.
Group of Large Cabinet Card Photographs. This lot contains eight cabinet card photos, all of varying theme and subject matter. The first photo measures 4.25" x 6.5", and features an inter-racial couple. This would have been a rare scene during this time, but it was not uncommon for men in the England to marry women from Morocco or Africa. This picture was taken in England so this was likely one such case. The photo is in fine condition; has several small holes along the upper edge and one larger one on the lower edge; a yellowish stain is present on the man's head; light soiling overall.
The second photo measures 4.5" x 6.5" and features another inter-racial couple. This time the couple was photographed in New York. The photo is in very fine condition; light soiling overall; a few minor chips visible on the emulsion.

Collection of 19th and Early 20th Century Photographs Featuring Performers and Movie Stars. This lot contains six cartes de visite and one cabinet card, all depicting performers and artists. The cabinet card features Florence Lawrence, also known as "Baby Florence", she might very well be the first "movie star" known to the public by name. She began acting on stage at the age of three, and eventually ended up working for D.W. Griffith as "The Biograph Girl." In 1909 she began making shorts for various movie companies, only to be injured in 1915 and never fully recover. After many attempts at a comeback she committed suicide in 1938, never regaining her former childhood fame. This is an obscure actress despite having appeared in over 200 individual pictures, but also one of the first child stars to be affected by the Hollywood machine! In excellent condition with some light rubbing near the bottom quadrant of the image. Surely a jewel for any stage and screen collector.
The cartes de visite feature Christine Nilsson, Swedish opera star; Adelina Patti, Italian Soprano star (Giuseppe Verdi called her the greatest singer he had ever heard); Henryk Wieniawski, Polish composer and violinist; Josef Gungl, composer and songwriter. There also two unidentified women, dressed as actresses or singers. All six CDVs are in excellent condition; several have some slight soiling on the emulsion but otherwise excellent. This lot has something for virtually every area of early entertainment collecting.
Group of 19th Century Photos Depicting Gentlemen. Included in this lot are three cartes de visite and one ambrotype. The ambrotype is of a young man, in his early 20s, seated in a chair, wearing his Sunday best. His image is housed in a union case, which is velvet covered rather than leather. It has an octagonal shape, rather than rectangular. The photo itself is in good condition, it has the the commonly seen "rainbow halo" around the man and several emulsion bubbles on the surface. The case is also in good condition; the metal frame around the photo has come loose from the case, and the velvet is quite worn on the exterior. The first CDV was published by Pierre Petit in Paris, and depicts an older gentleman wearing a dark overcoat, checkered pants, and a white shirt; in excellent condition, with some slight staining on the obverse and pencil marks on both sides. The second CDV was produced by Wm. H. Moore, in Marion Ohio, and depicts a young man wearing what appears to be a slouch hat with army regulation cords around it. The rest of his outfit does not appear to be military. There is minor staining on both sides, and the upper right corner is missing. The final CDV was produced by C. Osswald of Ludwigsburg, Germany. It features a hand tinted man in uniform standing in front of a background with a horse and trees visible. The dark paint and colors do not allow for ease of identification of his rank, regiment, or nationality. We can assume from the place of production, that he is likely German, and in the national army. Someone has gone over his uniform and colored in the blues and golds, as well as the whites and reds. It is hard to make out much of the original subject. The photo is faded slightly, and there is some light staining on both sides. An interesting group.
Group of 19th Century Musician Photographs. Three photographs make up this unique group of images; one daguerreotype and two cartes de visite. Photographs of musicians and musical instruments make up an esoteric area of interest for photo collectors. In this lot we offer three beautiful images in this category! The first is a CDV of Anton Rubinstein, famous composer, conductor, and pianist. The CDV is of a young Rubinstein, seated in a chair, with his trademark wild hair. The photo was published by Sarony, on 680 Broadway. It is in excellent condition, looks as new. The second CDV is of Louis Moreau Gottschalk, American composer and pianist. The CDV depicts him standing, holding a top hat. The photo was published by E. & H.T. Anthony in New York, also in excellent condition with just a few minor abrasions on the emulsion. The third image is a 1/9th plate daguerreotype of an unidentified young man holding a violin. The dag has the common "rainbow halo" around the body of the young man; it is seated in a small union case, (Krainik 374), which depicts a woman and man, who are clearly farmers. This case predates Grant Wood's famous painting American Gothic, yet it contains very similar motifs. The case is in excellent condition, aside from some slight wear on the velvet lining inside.
19th Century Photo Album Complete with Numerous Cartes de Visite This handsome leather bound album, measures 7.25" x 9", and contains 28 pages. Each page is custom made with various sizes of cut-outs to hold cartes de visite, tintypes, and other types of photographs. Most of the pages are not complete, but do contain various images. There are images of young men, beautiful women, children, and families. The album was produced by William W. Harding of Philadelphia, he patented it as "Harding's Flexible Chain Back Album" in October of 1865. The album itself is in excellent condition, with all of its original gilt decoration and tooling, the leather on the spine has been somewhat rubbed and scuffed, otherwise perfect. The original brass clasps are still fully intact and functional. The pages inside are all fully intact, with only some mild separations present, where the glue has worn away. The photos contained inside have been sheltered from light and dirt for so long, that many of them are as perfect as the day they were made. This item is perfect for any photography collector, in that he/she will be able to fill the album with their own collection.
Pair of Carte de Visites featuring P.T. Barnum star General Tom Thumb. This lot features two CDVs of little person and P.T. Barnum star General Tom Thumb. Thumb's real name was Charles Sherwood Stratton and he was born in 1838 in Bridgeport Connecticut. He began working with Barnum at the age of four and was an international celebrity. When he died over 10,000 people attended his funeral. These CDVs feature both him, his wife, his friend and fellow performer Commodore Nutt, and Miss Minnie Warren. All four are little people. The first CDV is of General Thumb and his wife Lavinia Warren. They are dressed in fancy clothes and are standing arm in arm. This CDV is in excellent condition with just some minor soiling around the borders. The second CDV features all four of the little people, and they are dressed in identical costumes to those worn by the Emperor Louis Napoleon and Empress Eugenie. The bonus to this item is that all four have signed the back. The CDV is in excellent condition with some soiling present on both sides; the upper edge is bent; small scuff mark on the obverse; signatures are bold and dark.
Collection of Assorted Art and Portrait Cartes de Visite This lot contains 23 photographs, 22 of them are CDV size, and one is of cabinet card size. The majority of these photos are of exotic or rustic locales, or of engravings from books. A few of the places included are: Glen Ellis Falls, a Scottish Castle, and the Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. The book engravings vary from themes of childhood lessons, to religous themes. The remainder of the group is photographs of men, women, and even a cabinet card featuring the portraits of "Our Favorite Poets and Authors." The lot is in excellent condition, slight yellowing is present on several of the photographs, but none are torn or damaged in a way that harms the actual image. An interesting trove to be researched!

Miscellaneous
1857 American Institute Medal for the Invention of the Self-Weighing Coal Cart. This rather large and heavy medal has an obscure origin which we have been unable to determine. Today's American National Standards Institute does similar things that this older organization did. Presumably this group awarded commendations to inventors who had furthered progress in areas like science, navigation, production, and farming. The obverse of this medal features what appears to be the goddess Columbia with her liberty cap and her hand extended offering the winner a laurel wreath. Other images of science and progress surround her. The reverse has the following inscription encased in a wreath: "Awarded to J.W. Martin for a Self Weighing Coal Cart 1857." The medal is house in a Union Case listed as number 213 in Krainik's Union Cases." Both are in excellent condition; the case is in mint condition with just some slight wear from where the medal rubbed on the velvet inlay; the coin has a lovely chocolate brown patina and no edge nicks. Coin measures 2" in diameter. Case measures 3 13/16" x 3 7/16".
