His paintings are in the permanent collections of international museums and private collectors, including: Museum of Modern Art, Paris; Menton Museum; Peter Lawford Collection; Frank Sinatra Collection; Adlai Stevenson Collection; Baron Edmond de Rothschild Collection; San Diego Museum of Art; Atlanta Museum, Atlanta, Georgia; Evansville Museum of Art, Evansville, Indiana; New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans, Louisiana; Wright Museum of Art, Beloit, Wisconsin; and the Seattle Art Museum in Seattle, Washington.

Grover Cleveland Presidential Reception Ribbon from Madison, Wisconsin. This handsome purple and gold ribbon measures 2.5" wide and 9" long including the tassels. The text on the body of the ribbon reads: "Presidential Reception - Committee of One Hundred - Madison, Wis. 1887. - Executive". Cleveland visited Madison on October 7, 1887 to visit Col. William F. Vilas, Cleveland's Secretary of the Interior. This ribbon was worn by the committee who welcomed him to the city. It is certainly a ribbon that was not produced in large quantities, and therefore quite unique! The ribbon is in very fine condition; the tassels have become somewhat tarnished.

Howard Standard Brand "Blackberry Jelly" Crock with Lid. This early Heinz crock bears the Howard Standard version of their label. Measuring 6.25" tall with a colorful and bright label featuring a cornucopia of fruit and geometric designs. The label is in very fine condition with only a very slight amount of tearing and chipping on the upper edge. The crock itself has no cracks or chips; just some minor soiling on the lid. The metal handle is fully intact.
Four-Sided Heinz Keystone Label Jar. This 11.5" tall jar features the classic "keystone" label and the 1885 registration mark. The jar once held "Onions", and has a label on the neck of the jar that is also intact. The glass has some mild sickness and soiling, but no cracks. The label itself is missing its upper left corner and is moderately soiled overall. The upper label has torn at 9 o'clock, and has other small tears. Overall an excellent display piece.
Political
1884 Cleveland-Hendricks Jugate Medal in White Metal. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt GC 1884-2. Like it's Blaine companion, it is the largest metal medal issued for Cleveland in that election. In excellent condition with some edge nicks and wear; some wear present on the high relief points of the portraits as well as the eagle.
1892 Mrs. Harrison Celluloid with Ribbon. This handsome little ribbon has a celluloid portrait attached to it, the portrait is of Benjamin Harrison's wife, Caroline Harrison. The ribbon itself is red, white, and blue with some slight fraying on the top half. The portrait is in excellent condition with no soiling at all. The ribbon measures 2" x 3.25".
Henry Clay and William H. Harrison Medal in Silver. Listed as Sullivan-Dewitt HC 1844-11, measuring 37mm. One side of this medal features a portrait of Henry Clay with the slogan "Henry Clay - The Farmer of Ashland." The other side depicts a portrait of William Henry Harrison and the slogan "Honor Where Honor's Due - To The Hero of Tippecanoe." This example appears to have been struck a bit offcenter as the right edge of the medal is in much deeper relief than the left. Displays with several edge nicks and some soiling on both sides. The name Thomas appears on the truncation of the Clay bust.
1948 Henry Wallace 2 1/4" Pinback Button. This button features a cartoon-like picture of Wallace with a silhouette of Roosevelt and the words "Wallace For President." In near mint condition aside from some rusting on the verso.
1880 Hancock & English Silk Campaign Ribbon. The toughest ticket among the post-1876 19th century candidates. This is a perfect "type" variety for Hancock, in superb condition, with just some slight fraying on the top and bottom. Length 3.75".
Grover Cleveland Silk Woven Campaign Ribbon. Measures 4 1/4" and does not contain the facsimile signature sometimes seen on ribbons of this type. There is some slight fraying especially on the top. Otherwise the colors are bold and the image is crisp. A great example.
1892 Harrison-Reid Jugate Silk Campaign Ribbon. Attractive, woven red, white and blue with portraits of both candidates. Also has an eagle and several American flags also in color. Moderate overall "aging," and some fraying on the lower edge, still quite decent.
1868 Ulysses S. Grant Single Portrait Campaign Stickpin. Measuring 22mm, this cardboard photo is set into a fancy brass shell with a stars and stripes design. In excellent condition with some scratches and soiling on the portrait.
1896 Scarce Bryan-Sewall "Free Silver" Jugate Pinback Button. Measures 1 1/4" and features portraits of both Bryan and Sewall. The button also boasts the "Free Silver" slogan which Bryan used as his platform for this election. In excellent condition aside from some slight yellowing and foxing at 9 o'clock. There is some celluloid separation visible on the reverse. The original backpaper and pin are still intact.
1864 Andrew Johnson "Who Shall Be Vice-President?" Broadside. This campaign broadside outlined the political views of George H. Pendleton of Ohio and Andrew Johnson of Tennessee. It reads in part: "Who shall be Vice-President? Shall he be a loyal or a disloyal man? Past experience shows that the choice of Vice-President of the United States is almost as important as that of President. In case the latter dies or becomes unable to perform the duties of his office, they devolve upon the former. In 1840 General Harrison was elected President and John Tyler Vice-President. Within two months after the Inauguration General Harrison died and John Tyler became President of the United States, and completely reversed the policy he had been choosen to carry out..."

The broadside is in fine condition; usual folds are present; moderate separation occuring along main horizontal fold and main vertical fold; minor edge wear; light overall toning but still fully legible and crisp. A nice display item for the 1864 election, a collector favorite.
1891 John M. Palmer Political Campaign Ribbon. This oddly shaped 3.25" x 5.5" ribbon supports John M. Palmer in his run for U.S. Senator from Illinois. Palmer was a Union general in the Civil War and also ran for presidency in 1896 against William Jennings Bryan; he sought to protect the gold standard that Bryan adamantly opposed. The ribbon is in good condition; it has been cut from a larger backing cloth and has two long horizontal cuts across the center; the original thread used to mount it is still intact.
Pair of Daniel Hastings Inaugural Silk Ribbons. Daniel H. Hastings was the governor of Pennsylvania from 1895 to 1899, he was very popular among the populous not only for his desire to serve his country, but also for his efforts during the Johnstown flood of 1889. These colorful ribbons honor is inauguration in 1895; the first shows Hastings' portrait surmounted by a red, white, and blue bow held together with a button featuring the state seal. The second ribbon shows the portrait of Henry Walton, a distinguished speaker at the event, and a blue and gold bow with the same type of button. Both are in good condition; light soiling affects both examples; selvage visible on the lower portion of both; the bows have begun to fray lightly. The Hastings ribbon measures 7" long and the Walton is 6.5".
1866 John W. Geary Political Publication in German. This 29 page publication is entitled: Kurze Beschreibung der Jugendjahre somie der Militair und Civil Dienste des General Majors John White Geary. Translated to: A short description of the Youth - including some military and civil services of Major General John White Geary. This was produced when he was running Governor of Pennsylvania, which he won. The entire piece is in German, The cover features a handsome woodcut of Geary. Geary was also a Union General and mayor of San Francisco! In fine condition; light overall foxing; water damage stains throughout, mostly on the upper quadrant; all pages fully intact. Measures 5.75" x 9".
1868 Benjamin Butler Political Biography. The Life and Public Services of Benjamin Butler, (La Crosse Democrat, New York, 1868), 63 pages, political cartoon on the cover, string bound, 4.25" x 6". This scathing publication set out to inform the public about the character of the Republican Benjamin Butler. The first page reads in part: "...The object of this book is twofold. First, to inform the people of other nations of the character of a prominent representative New Englander, whose record is one of beastliness, venality, double-dealing, fraud, dishonesty, corruption, and betrayal of trusts, and to warn boys in this or other countries against forsaking the right to become a leader of thieves. The second is to show the world the kind of a man or person the republican party, which claims for and to itself all the virtue, honesty, religion, intelligence, and patriotism of the land, chooses for a leader, and bows in worship before." In fine condition; first page has become disbound; minor edge wear; bumped corners; light overall toning of early pages; back cover exhibits mild foxing.
Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Program. 6" x 9" program for TR's inauguration on March 4, 1905. Contains three pages and a photograph of Teddy wearing his iconic monocle on the cover. A scarce piece of inaugural ephemera in very fine condition; a few small stains on the cover; medium size water damage spot on last page.
1880 James Garfield Silk Campaign Ribbon. This 2.5" x 5.25" blue silk ribbon has an applied albumen photo of Garfield. Gold-stamped design with eagle, shield and wreath, inscribed "For President Genl. J. A. Garfield.". In very fine condition; was once connected to a brass bar, there is a some fraying and tearing where it was removed; albumen photo is beginning to peel off; small flake in the gold embossing to the right of Garfield's face.
1976 Gerald Ford "Edsel" 2 ½" Pinback Button. This large red, white, and blue button shows the Capitol building and Gerald Ford's head as the hood ornament on a Ford Edsel. This is a great jab at Ford since the Edsel was one of the most significant failures in automobile history, and this button makes it seem that Gerald Ford was also such a failure. In excellent condition; the red ink from the lettering and stars has somewhat bled into the white background.
Herbert Hoover Celluloid Armband. This interesting red, white, and blue armband was made for an event that promoted Herbert Hoover, it is hard to say whether this is a campaign piece or a later creation. At any rate this example is in choice condition; light warping has occurred over the years; elastic band still intact. Measures 4.75" x 3".
President Eisenhower Sherry and Port Decanters Measuring approximately 6" each with stopper these W & A Gilbey Limited of London decanters were used by the Eisenhowers. Marked "Royal Victoria Pottery, Wade England" on the bottom. Ike presented them to Sgt. John Moaney, his long-time valet (1942-1969). Mrs. Moaney, the Sergeant's wife, served as the Eisenhowers' personal cook until the death of Mrs. Eisenhower. White House cards signed by Moaney detail the historical significance of the decanters.
1872 Republican Glee Club Badge. This purple and gold badge is from the Republican Glee Club of Columbus Ohio. Grant was the Republican candidate in 1872 and likely this badge was made for some sort of event to support his run for office. The lower portion of the badge is a lyre that is offset by the dark maroon of the silk ribbon. In excellent condition; light soiling on the ribbon portion; the brass lyre and bar are slightly tarnished.
Three George Wallace 1 ¾" Pinback Buttons. This lot includes three pinbacks supporting George Wallace. Wallace was governor of Alabama for four terms and he ran for the presidency four times under the Democratic ticket three times and the American Independent Party once. He is best known for his support of segregation; a position he later retracted. Two of these buttons illustrate his earlier stance. They are in bright neon colors and look as crisp as the day they were made. All are in choice condition. A great trio for a tough candidate.
1864 Union Republican Ticket for Ward 4 of Massachusetts. A patriotic red, white, and blue ticket for the 4th Ward of Massachusetts, which includes the city of Boston. The image at the top features the personifications of Liberty and Peace sitting in front of an American flag and implements of war. Below is a long list of Republican candidates for offices such as: presidential electors, governor, secretary of state etc. In very fine condition; usual folds are present; slight separation occurring on some of the fold lines; light overall toning; the colors are still dark and saturated. Measures 6.25" x 13.5".
1916 Hughes vs. Wilson Campaign Opens - Chicago Newspaper This complete and original 12-page issue of The Saturday Blade of Chicago, dated June 17, 1916 has a fabulous front page with large color caricatures of the two candidates, each posed next to their party's mascot. Hughes' elephant is saying "Easy!" and Wilson's donkey is saying "Nothin' to it." Headlines read "Democrats in Big Convention Laud Record of President" and "Hughes Opens the Campaign; Plans to Go on Stump Tour." An interesting look at the 1916 campaign. Very good condition with weakness and some separation at the center fold, 15" x 21".
Three Early Al Smith 7/8" Buttons, with Youthful Portraits. Two New York Governor items, and one for President of the Board of Alderman. All three are in choice condition, and the two white-bordered vanities are quite scarce.
Six William H. Taft Postcard Photos. This lot features six different postcards that show President Taft at some sort of dedication or groundbreaking. One photo shows Taft addressing a large crowd, and another shows him holding a trowel while several men work on a large block of stone. The photos are amazingly clear and crisp, showing Taft in his role as a public figure. Each one measures 5.25" x 3.25" and are unused on the verso. All in excellent condition; because these were real photos some of them appear slightly blurry but overall these are crisp and clear photos of the president!

A ball was held to honor this event, and this was a souvenir menu presented at this occasion. A lovely cardboard stock menu, featuring portraits of Harrison and Morton surrounded by an American flag and backed by the White House. The entire menu is decorated with a small red, white, and blue ribbon, as well as a presidential seal on the back cover. The inside of the menu shows the bill of fare as well the banquet committee's names. 1884 Presidential Inauguration Program for Grover Cleveland. This ten page program outlines the order of proceedings and layout of the inauguration of 1885, which took place on March 4 of that year. Grover Cleveland would be inaugurated into that office in Washington, D.C. Aside from the beautiful front and back covers, the program features a foldout map of the Senate floor that details where various parties would sit. A wonderful piece of political ephemera. In fine condition; usual folds are present; soiled on the fold lines; back cover has mild foxing and dampstaining; light overall toning. Measures 7" x 9.8".
Abraham Lincoln Campaign Song. Simply titled: "Campaign Song" written by B.H. Grierson of Meredosia, Illinois; it was to be sung to the tune of "Old Dan Tucker". This song touts the Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln and playfully mocks the Democrats. The bottom of the song sheet announces that this was offered for sale by the "Meredosia Wide-Awakes". The Wide-Awakes were an affiliate of the Republican party during the 1860 election. In fine condition; moderate edge wear; light toning around the edges; upper left corner wrinkled and creased.
1876 Newspaper from New York- Tilden and Hayes Controversy. This issue of The World" was printed for Wednesday, November 15, 1876: Vol. XVII., No. 846. It features an article entitled: "Tilden's Triumph - The Candidate of Reform Unquestionably Elected - All Quiet Throughout the Land". The Presidential election of 1876 is one of the most disputed in history; Tilden had handily defeated Rutherford B. Hayes in the popular votes, however, a portion of the electoral votes were in dispute. Many believe a compromise was struck and in return for the South's acquiescence, the North would remove its troops, thus ending Reconstruction. Hayes was put into office, making this newspaper a wonderful novelty. In choice condition; slightly brittle and yellowed as machine-pulp newspapers usually are but very sturdy and clean.
1864 Abraham Lincoln "Republican Campaign Song" Songster. This handsome little music sheet is titled "Republican Campaign Song" and features the standard 1860 portrait of Lincoln. It was published by "Mason & Co., 58 N. Sixth Street, Phila.". A portion of the lyrics read: "...Lincoln and Johnson will guide the ship of State - In Eighteen Sixty-five, -Holy, Holy, Happy New Year!..." In fine condition; upper right corner is missing, however, not affecting any of the text; light soiling overall; foxing present in the lower corners.
1860 The Wigwam Edition Abraham Lincoln Book. The Wigwam Edition - The Life, Speeches, and Public Services of Abram Lincoln, (Rudd & Carleton, New York, 1860), 117 pages, original wrappers, 12mo, 4.5" x 7.5". This handsome little book contains a myriad of facts about Abraham Lincoln and his running mate Hannibal Hamlin. The cover features a fantastic woodcut portrait of Lincoln. This was the first biography published about Mr. Lincoln and for most collectors of this president is a cornerstone of their collection. In fine condition; wrappers are chipping and tearing; both the front and back wrapper have corners missing and various tears; yellowing has set in on the wrappers and interior pages; slightly soiled overall.
1881 Chester A. Arthur Sheet Music. Titled: "President Arthur's Grand March" by C. Carlberg, and was published by Richard A. Saalfield. 1948 "Dixiecrat" Thurmond and Wright Poster. 7.5" x 14" thick paper stock poster or placard issued in 1948 to support the States' Rights or Dixiecrat Party of Strom Thurmond and Fielding Wright. It is titled, "Here Is The Official Democratic Ticket Democratic Party of South Carolina for Anderson County." It lists candidates for local offices, the presidential electors and urges South Carolina Democrats to vote for "Governors Thurmond and Wright." It concludes "Fight To Protect the Rights of the States Vote Democratic!" Mint condition and most rare.
3" John F. Kennedy Button with Coat Tail Ribbon. This 3" blue and cream colored button reads: "Support Our President - Vote Democratic", and below are three ribbons featuring the names of three other Democratic candidates: Clark, Dilworth, and Reilly. Coat Tail pieces are always popular and this one is a choice example with very little overall soiling, mostly on the truncation of the button; the ribbons are slightly wrinkled with very trivial staining. Measures 8" long overall.
1896 William McKinley Wooden Cane. These metal-handle parade canes were extremely popular in the 1880s and 1890s, some featured single candidates, others were jugate varieties. This particular one displays William McKinley at the top along with his slogan "Protection" and the year 1896 embossed on the truncation of his neck. The cane is in choice condition; light tarnishing but has a wonderful, pleasing patina. The wood portion shows a handsome aged tone and has one small crack in the base. The metal top is slightly loose, otherwise, it is perfect for display.
William Jennings Bryan 1 ¼" Pinback Portrait Button. This red, white, and blue pinback button features Bryan's portrait inside a safe, with the words "Commoner" above his head and "Guarantee of Bank Deposits" below. This likely dates from the 1908 election where Bryan's views on anti-trusts were paramount to his campaign. In fine condition; small crack at 6 o'clock.
1900 McKinley-Roosevelt Jugate Pinback Button. Titled "Commerce and Industries," this 1 ¼" design represents incredibly detailed vignettes of both a horse and hay wagon in the field, smoking factories, and a harbor of ships. Beautiful condition, with exceptionally vivid color. A few extremely trivial fine surface scratches visible only when the light is at just the right angle; slightly off-center to the right as made.
1956 Monster 6" Adlai Stevenson Political Pinback Button. This huge orange and black portrait button features Stevenson laughing in a crowd. These large buttons often come with condition issues but this example is in nearly mint condition; a few minor nicks on the face, otherwise excellent.
1896 McKinley-Hobart Mechanical Elephant Badge. Popular brass shell badge from 1896 in the form of an elephant. The saddle blanket is painted red and inscribed "GOP." A spring mechanism and release opens the blanket to reveal cardboard photos of the Republican candidates, McKinley and Hobart. Shows some light wear and soil; the McKinley photo has been replaced and looks very new compared to the Hobart; mechanism still opens, but does not spring open anymore.
1900 Theodore Roosevelt 1 ¼" Pinback Portrait Button. This patriotic Roosevelt portrait button shows him inside a round frame, surmounted by an eagle and an American flag. A handsome and conspicuous variety! In choice condition; mounting traces on verso.
1904 Roosevelt-Fairbanks 1 ¼" Jugate Pinback Button. This stunning jugate features both candidates surmounted by an eagle who is spreading its wings over both men. A patriotic American flag sits below; all backed by a bright gold color. A stunning variety. In choice condition; slight area of discoloration at 9 o'clock on the truncation.
Lot of Three 1856 Campaign Tokens. This lot features three tokens, included are: John C. Fremont - JF 1865-8; with the ampersand located between the two coat buttons, 28mm, brass; John C. Fremont - JF 1856- 10, slightly different than the previous variety in that is has a few variations in the die and also has a Buchanan companion, 28mm, brass; Millard Fillmore - MF 1856-5, different die than MF 1856-4, and has 31.S on the reverse, 29mm, brass, holed. This lot includes: William Henry Harrison - WHH 1840-49, 24mm, brass; WHH 1840-51, 24 1/2mm, (5) brass, (1) white metal, all holed; WHH 1840-46, 24mm, brass, holed; WHH 1840-25, 29mm,copper, holed. The very subtle differences between each variety of this token are astounding, and this is a great chance to grab a few of them. All in good condition; the white metal example is quite tarnished on the reverse; some erosion on all in places of higher relief.
Pair of 1904 Roosevelt-Fairbanks Jugate Pinback Buttons. This deep-sepia toned variety is hard to come by in choice condition such as this lot offers. In two sizes: 1 ¼" and 7/8". Both present in display quality and still have their pins intact. The decorative nature of this design makes it desirable to collectors; the eagle surmounting the candidates is a work of art.
Group of 9 William Jennings Bryan Portrait Pinback Buttons. This lot features nine portrait pinbacks of William Jennings Bryan. They span each of his elections, as is evident by the presence of the younger Bryan poses mixed with the more mature 1908 varieties. All in good condition; several have some light soiling and staining; the small ½" inch piece is somewhat faded and bears a small nick in the portrait. Ranging in size from 1 ¼" to ½".
Group of Three Political Campaign Tokens. This lot consists of three campaign tokens, included are: Horatio Seymour - HS-1868-4, 32, white metal, holed; James G. Blaine - JGB-1884-5, 31mm, white metal, holed; Rutherford B. Hayes - RBH 1876-14, 22mm, white metal, holed. Each token is in excellent condition; most are clean with very little tarnish and edge wear; the silver Garfield token is more tarnished than the rest and has quite a bit of soiling in the areas of low relief, otherwise the rest have a charming dark patina. Some portraits attributed to Gilbert Stuart are widely thought to be done by Field. This letter was written to a John Leeds Kerr, a young lawyer and close friend of Francis Scott Key whom Field mentions in this letter. "...when I shall see you again the Lord knoweth, being engaged here to paint Mr. Pica and old Mrs. Chew. I live here like an Alderman of Cripplegate. I feed the mind a little also, there being several good books here which tempt me, but my head is seldom so well stuffed as my belly, and I fear is emptied sooner without secreting and congesting much pabulum for the brain. Your brain is, I suppose, so busy'd about cases and pleas, and declarations and affirmations and rejoinders, that you have no time to think of my secretions &c. Well, be it so. Is Frank Key in Easton now? I heard he was to be at the general court...You or your uncle are suspected of writing that line about Lord Cockadoodledoo &c. I hope you did not write it, tho' I'm glad it has been written. Be a good boy till I come." A fine letter with mention of his painting.
