Movie/TV Memorabilia
Barbie Number Three (1960). One of the earliest versions of Barbie, this is a sought-after collector's item today! This one is "loose" with no original box but does come with her original black and white striped bathing suit. This doll has lightened in color a bit over the years. She has brown eyeliner, and she's got the "crayon" smell characteristic of the early versions. She's solid, not hollow like later versions, and unlike later versions, her ears have not turned green. She has her original hairstyle, though the original hairband is gone except for a couple of very tiny pieces. She has gently curved dark brows and red lipstick. Faint traces of her red nostril dots are present. Her nose is not "nipped." There are no cracks anywhere, but a small dent is missing from the back of her right arm. Her head does turn from side to side. Her "backside" has the number 115 and says "Barbie TM Pats. Pend.(c) MCMLVIII by Mattel Inc." A very significant item in American pop culture!

1962 Topps Mickey Mantle #200 PSA EX 5. The first Topps issue after the historic home run duel between Mantle and Maris which saw Babe Ruth's 34-year record fall. Had the Mick not been hampered by injuries late in the season, he may have supplanted Maris' legendary 61 in '61.

1954 Henry "Dutch" Dehnert Signed Index Card. Terrific piece from the early Basketball Hall of Famer. Reads, "3/7/54, To John J. 1946 Detroit Gems Team Signed Broadside--Became the Minnesota/Los Angeles Lakers! Had the National Basketball League franchise the Detroit Gems been anything other than simply awful in 1946, who knows how different the NBA would be today? Posting a miserable four and forty record the season this exceedingly scarce broadside was issued, the club was on the verge of extinction when Ben Berger and Morris Chalfen purchased the club for $15,000 and relocated it to Minnesota, renaming the franchise the "Lakers." The draft of 1947 would soon arrive, and the newly christened Lakers, by virtue of their last place finish in '46, were afforded the first overall pick. Their selection: George Mikan. And the rest, as they say, is history. So don't go looking for any stars among the thirteen 9/10 ink signatures that dot this historic exhibition game announcement--you won't find any. Frankly, that's the point. The broadside itself is the real "gem" here, the only one from this franchise known to exist, and just about the only piece of any kind related to the Detroit Gems surviving to this day. The cardstock poster measures 11x14" in size and is affixed to a scrapbook page by ancient staples. Some tack holes, light water staining and a chipped corner are apparent, but nothing can challenge the appeal or historical significance of this supreme rarity. LOA from PSA/DNA.

1952 Bowman Willie Mays #218 PSA VG-EX 4. Worthy of a much stronger grade if not for the southwestern shift of centering. Color and contrast are first rate, and wear is less than typical of the issue.

Add to that the fact that perhaps the most popular player in the game at the time, Ted Williams, both starts and ends the set, and it's easy to see why this one's a winner. 1969 N.L.C.S. Game Three Full Tickets Lot of 2 from the Casey Stengel Collection. Plenty of reasons to love this matched pair of tickets, never used and leaving seats one and two of Field Box 65, Row B unoccupied. First, they derive directly from the personal collection of original Mets manager Casey Stengel. Second, this was the very first year of the League Championship Series. And lastly, these tickets were for Game Three of a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves, meaning that they were issued for the day the New York Mets earned their first National League pennant. The tickets do show a degree of wear from storage, but nothing that detracts significantly from visual appeal, and certainly not from the incredible historical importance. A letter of provenance from the consignor will attest to the Stengel connection.

Baseball Collectibles
1936 Casey Stengel Testimonial Dinner Photograph & Program from the Casey Stengel Collection. The Baseball Writers of Brooklyn and New York bid farewell to Casey, whose tenure as skipper of the Brooklyn Dodgers came to an end only days before the event. Included in the lot is an oversized (9.5x17") photo of the gang on hand to wish Stengel the best, with Casey himself clearly visible at the back table. Mild corner creasing means a technical VG-EX, though the photo presents much better. The program offers some creasing and staining as well but is similarly presentable, with no noteworthy damage.
1939 Casey Stengel Color Presentational Photograph by Burke from the Casey Stengel Collection. Collectors of the work of legendary Chicago baseball photographer George Burke are certain to swoon at this simply exceptional colorized image deriving from the personal collection of Stengel himself. Casey poses in the Boston Bees' road greys, with the celebrated Centennial patch clearly visible on the left sleeve. Image size is approximately 7x10", printed on special photographic paper that stretches final dimensions to 11x14". Minimal wear and aging to the white borders, though the image itself remains in unimprovable condition. Burke stamp on verso.

Nothing occurred to change my view of the case. The right is clearly with us. If we gain it (as we certainly ought) nothing will remain but the Georgia case, and that too I think we must succeed in. Such victories, besides the good results, will teach some respect for the Bank, and prevent aggressions, encouraged heretofore by the supposed helplessness..."

Prohibition Laws in the 1900's Typed Manuscript Excellent content lot consisting of a typed manuscript, 11pp., March 12, 1900, titled "A Comparison of the Liquor Laws of Various States", by William Guest Underwood; and four letters received by Underwood in response to inquiries made in preparation for his essay. Most notably included is a 4pp. letter from John N. Parker, Chairman of the Prohibition Party of Maryland, on Party letterhead, Oct. 5, 1899. He writes, in part: "...I have to say nearly half of the territory of the state is under local option laws, but they are poorly enforced and much liquor is sold in all the local option counties or sold & delivered to those counties. In my opinion a county is much better with than without the law even if but poorly enforced. But I would not say local option is the best solution of the liquor question. It is too 'local' & too 'optional' - the next legislature can change the option as has been done in several instances and let in the saloons again. Cecil County has had that experience several times. I am sure the best solution of the liquor question is Prohibition , State & National with a party behind it to enforce the law after it is made. I have worked along this line for 115 years and every additional year but reinforces that opinion...A few weeks ago I visited the Dispensary at Greensboro, N.C. the only one in Guilford Co. From what I saw and heard I am sure a great improvement to the people of the town has resulted in substituting the one dispensary for the nine barrooms. But that is only a 'stepping stone' towards prohibition which the people are after..." Overall, interesting content and worthy of further research. Usual folds and some soiling to pages, good.

Four provocative verses, rallying Southerners to repel "The Northern hordes". In part: "Each Southron for his rights will die, / By honor onward steered. / We're anxious, waiting, ready, / Prepared in purse and mind; / To free the South of all her foes, And leave not one behind. / Amalgamation is the cry, / Which nerves these Hessians on; / For N***** brides they all will die, We treat their boasts with scorn. / For sainted Beecher, Greeley, Stowe, / Now raise on high their wail; / They know that they have caused this woe, / And feel that they must fail..." Baltimore became one of the first casualties of the Civil War, and would remain on the front lines through much of the war.
