She lured a troop of warriors to her temple for a celebration. Instead, once there, she slew them all single-handedly. Afterwards she cleansed and perfumed herself and, the heavens sent down rain. This symbolism is connected with the ancient Semitic belief in blood as the essence of life, not only in terms of human and animal life, but also in terms of agriculture. Jason then took the Golden Fleece and sailed away with Medea, who had fallen in love with him. This spectatcular scene appeared in Ladies: Retold Stories of Goddesses and Heroines by Doris Vallejo. This oil on paper painting is not framed. The piece has an approximate overall size of 24" x 30", and is in Excellent condition.
