The William Taylor Johnson Collection
Professor William Taylor Johnson worked for the Department of Interior, Indian Affairs from 1918 until his death in 1951. Most of the items in this collection were gifts from his students while he was Principal of the Commercial Department at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS from 1918 to 1939. These items were packed away in 1939 when Johnson was transferred from Haskell Institute to Oklahoma.
Some of the items in the collection are referenced as part of the Hilton Collection. Josephine Hilton was a teacher under Professor Johnson. She acquired some of her relics as gifts from students and some were from friends. She retired from teaching at Haskell Institute in 1934. At that time she gave her collection and books to Professor Johnson to add to his collection.
