Press Release - April 26, 2016

Quick.com, one of the first 100 domains registered on the Internet, brings $299,000 to top Heritage Domains & IP auction

April 19, 2016, at Heritage Auctions in San Francisco; Blaze.com soars to $253,000 in spirited bidding

Quick.com
SAN FRANCISCO — Quick.com, one of the oldest domain names in existence on the Internet — it was the 85th name registered once domain registration was opened to the world on Aug. 31, 1987 — realized $299,000 amidst spirited bidding as the top lot in Heritage Auctions' April 19, 2016 $950,000+ Domain Names & Intellectual Property Signature® Auction, held at the company's offices in San Francisco.

"Rarity, history and value combined to make Quick.com an irresistible auction buy," said Aron Meystedt, Director of Domain Names & Intellectual Property at Heritage. "Quick.com, along with the other top lots in the auction, proved that digital assets are increasingly viable not just as a key branding tool, but also as a tangible investment."

Blaze.com, which realized an impressive $253,000 final price, against a pre-auction estimate of $100,000+, proved not only to be one of the most hotly contested domains of the auction, but also one of the highest prices. The name can also make the case for being one of the best investments in the auction.

"Heritage actually had listed Blaze.com for $75,000 back in August 2015," said Meystedt. "Thinking it would be a nice return on their investment, the purchaser of that sale decided to quickly turn it around and put it in this auction with a reserve price of $100,000. When it passed $200,000, we all realized what a fantastic return it was. It also points to the wisdom of investing in the right domain names and understanding when to let go."

Another interesting lot in the auction came in the form of a "bulk" lot, in which the consignor listed 50 four-letter domain names and allowed the winning bidder, who paid a final price realized of $21,850, to choose 20 lots from the listing. After the auction, Heritage brokered the other 30 names, bringing the lot total to $60,250.
