Heritage Gets Weird in January!

Dallas, Texas: Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers (HG&A) will offer Wally Wood's original cover art for EC's Weird Science #21 in their upcoming Comic and Original Comic Art Signature Auction, to be held January 20 & 21, 2006, in Dallas, Texas.

"Few science fiction/fantasy clichés are revisited as often as that of a beautiful 'good girl' being saved from the clutches of an alien monster by a handsome hero," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President for HG&A. "But in the hands of a genius the caliber of Wally Wood, even the most hoary clichés can take on new life. This stunning cover, with its trademarked Wood hero and heroine, and a dramatic Woodian monster, is a perfect example of how even the familiar can be rendered in breathtaking, dramatic style by a true master, making even the most timeworn concepts seem fresh, new and visually exciting."

"Note the dynamic use of perspective in this piece," said Jaster, "and Wood's expert use of shadows. When giving advice to beginning artists, Wood was fond of saying that one should first ink in everything that should be black, and then ink in a few things that shouldn't be black as well. This philosophy can be clearly seen in this modern masterpiece, the elegant use of light and shadow clearly serving to focus the viewer's attention on the three main figures. Not a line is wasted in this beautiful composition, which clearly demonstrates the reasons why Wood is still considered one of the utmost masters of his craft, as revered today as he was when this spectacular cover first appeared."
