Heritage Returns to Orlando!
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers (HG&A) will offer over 7,000 lots of coin rarities at their official January 4 -7, 2006 Florida United Numismatists Signature Auction. In addition, a currency auction featuring nearly 5,000 lots and an On-Line Session will be held at the same venue.
"This is always an exciting time of year for us," said Greg Rohan, President of HG&A. "Heritage has been holding F.U.N. auctions in Orlando since 1991, and we are looking forward to another successful series of events to kick off 2006. Our official suite of F.U.N. catalogs includes two volumes of Signature Auction coins, Platinum Night, and Heritage Currency Auctions of America. In addition, Heritage World Coin Auctions is holding an official auction at the New York International Numismatic Convention the following week."
"This auction features a number of important anchor consignments," Rohan said, "including The Andy Geosits Registry Collection of Trade Dollars. Mr. Geosits has assembled a phenomenal collection of business strike and proof Trade dollars; his Mint State examples are the #4 Current Finest Known on the PCGS Registry, and his proof Trade dollars are rated #1 Current. Even more impressive than condition are his extraordinary rare varieties. Mr. Geosits started collecting coins at 15, although his fascination with Trade Dollars is of more recent vintage. His 'first' collection of Trade dollars was sold by Heritage in September of 2002. He was so impressed by the beauty of the series that he embarked on a second collection. Using the contacts that he had previously established and the friends he had made, he was able to procure some very special coins, including several varieties."
Highlights of The Andy Geosits Registry Collection of Trade Dollars include:
- 1875-S/CC T$1 MS63 PCGS.
- 1873-CC T$1 MS62 PCGS.
- 1874-CC T$1 MS64 PCGS.

- 1882 T$1 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS.
"The Larry Shapiro Registry Collection of Mercury Dimes is simply astonishing," said Rohan. "Mr. Shapiro's success in procuring Dimes of the highest quality in this important series is plainly evident in his PCGS All-Time rankings:
- #1 Mercury Dimes Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1916-1945)
- #1 Mercury Dimes FB Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1916-1945)
- #1 Mercury Dimes Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1916-1945)
- #1 Mercury Dimes FB Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1916-1945)

Plus, the set is highly ranked in a few other categories as well. Altogether, we are offering five contiguous sections of Mr. Shapiro's incredible collections of this important series."

"The consignor of the Joshua and Ally Walsh Collection, a tribute to the American cent, is a very private gentleman who named several Registry sets after his grandchildren," Rohan said. "The sets appear on the PCGS Registry as the Joshua Large Cents, the Ally Flying Eagle Cents, the Ally Indian Cents, and the Walsh Lincoln Cents. The total cent collection comprises a complete cent date set from 1793 until 1958, with every coin from 1864 to 1958 in MS65 Red or better (except the 1924-S Lincoln). On the Registry, the Joshua Large Cents are #3 All-Time finest, #2 Current Finest; the Ally Flying Eagles are tied for #1 All-Time and Current Finest; the Ally Indian Cents are #2 All-Time Finest and #1 Current Finest; the Walsh Lincoln Cents are #2 All-Time and Current Finest. Taken as a whole, this collection may never be duplicated, and the individual rarities that abound can only be described as incredible. The consignor, a very astute businessman, has also consigned individually named collections to many Heritage auctions in recent years. The extent of his holdings would place him in the very highest tier of American numismatists were they ever publicized."
Highlights of the Joshua and Ally Walsh Collection include:
- 1793 Chain 1C AMERICA AU58 PCGS.
- 1856 1C MS65 PCGS.
- 1872 1C MS66 Red PCGS.

- 1915-S 1C MS66 Red PCGS.
"Another exciting offering is the Dr. Steven L. Duckor Registry Collection of Barber Dimes," said Rohan. "Dr. Duckor is, in a word, a serious numismatist, with wide ranging interests that have all developed into superlative collections. He currently has ten different sets on the PCGS Registry, of different denominations, some of which he is still enlarging and improving. The quality that he seeks is evident in these coins, the #3 All-Time Finest and #3 Current Finest Known Barber Dimes Basic Set Circulation Strikes (1892-1916). As you might expect, most of the coins are Finest Known or tied for Finest Known; they are naturally toned, original coins, and many come with important pedigrees like Clapp, Pittman, Eliasberg and Hugon. Dr. Duckor has bought many rarities out of Heritage auctions, but this is his first auction sale from his extensive holdings and we are honored that he chose Heritage."
Highlights of the Dr. Steven L. Duckor Registry Collection of Barber Dimes include:- 1894-O 10C MS66 PCGS.
- 1895 10C MS66 PCGS.
- 1895-O 10C MS65 PCGS.
- 1895-S 10C MS66 PCGS.

"Heritage was selected by professional numismatist Michael Casper to sell his magnificent collection of Morgan dollars - in our Santa Clara 2001 and F.U.N. 2002 Signature Auction," Rohan said. "That set was destined to soar as high as #3 All-Time in the PCGS Registry Set. As both a collector and dealer of Morgan dollars, Mr. Casper held himself to the highest numismatic standards in all of his Morgan acquisitions, pursuing Gem Morgans with condition rarity, specimen rarity, pedigrees, and historical significance. While this consignment contains many wonderful Morgans, it also features many Finest Known coins or condition rarities, such as his Eliasberg 1865 half dime and many wonderful Barber coins."
Highlights of the Michael Casper Collection, Part II include:
- 1911 10C PR68 PCGS.
- 1911 50C PR67 Deep Cameo PCGS.

- 1893-O $1 MS63 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS.
"The Peter G. Apple Collection is a magnificent showcase of American gold coins," said Rohan, "which Mr. Apple assembled using his stock market profits. The collection is especially rich in Three Dollars, due to their intrinsic rarity, and Gold Dollars for their striking challenges. While specialists will all have their favorites, Mr. Apple's favorites included his 1854-D $3 certified as AU58 NGC with only 8 finer, and his 1873 Closed 3, another collector favorite."
Highlights of the Peter G. Apple Collection include:
- 1854-D $3 AU58 NGC.
- 1854-O $3 AU58 NGC.
- 1873 $3 Closed 3 MS60 NGC.
- 1879 $3 MS65 PCGS.
- 1880 $3 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS.
"The Bellaire Collection consists of several dozen exceptional error coins, further specializing in coins struck on off-metal, or wrong denomination, planchets," Rohan explained. "These errors are among the most dramatic mistakes made during the minting process, which naturally translates into high demand. The consignor was introduced to error coins by his father, who had several off-metal strikings in his collection. Both father and son were collectors at heart, and they shared several of their collecting passions. He spent nearly a decade pursuing the curiosities contained in The Bellaire Collection, and he continues to collect widely. This collection is one of two 'error' anchor consignments, a most unusual occurrence."
Highlights of the Bellaire Collection include:
- 1944 1C Lincoln Cent--Struck on a Dime Planchet--AU53 PCGS.
- 1968-S 1C Lincoln Cent--Struck on Dime Planchet--PR65 ANACS.
- 1965 25C Washington Quarter--Struck on a 90% Silver Planchet--AU50 PCGS.
- 1959-D 50C Franklin Half Dollar--Struck on a Cent Planchet--AU58 ANACS.
- 2000-P $1 Sacagawea Dollar--Double Denomination on Struck Maryland Quarter--MS67 PCGS.
"It's not surprising that The Clearfield Collection is being presented under a pseudonym," said Rohan. "The consignor, a radiologist in Minnesota, is an extremely private man, and his collecting has been a very private pursuit. He has never been to a coin show, nor has he shared his hobby with his family or friends. What is most remarkable is that he started collecting coins with his brother in 1957 in his hometown of Clearfield; the consignor still has "fond memories of this small town in central Pennsylvania, where I learned the virtues of thrift and hard work." They became so absorbed with the hobby that they began selling coins in the early 1960s through Coin World mail bids (none of their buyers knew that the were dealing with a pair of mid-teens). The consignor began his pursuit of Commemoratives at that time, and has continued for four decades. Curiously he felt no compulsion to complete his 144-coin set, preferring to only acquire coins that met his exacting requirements as they came along (the two coins missing from his set could have been purchased in less than five minutes on any day if he had cared to do so). In addition to his commemoratives, the Clearfield Collection also contains a number of key date rarities that he could only dream about as a kid, and that were purchased for the pure pleasure of ownership."
Highlights of the Clearfield Collection include:
- 1916-D 10C MS64 Full Bands PCGS.
- 1896-S 25C MS65 PCGS.
- 1916 25C MS64 Full Head NGC.
- 1921 50C MS65 PCGS.
- 1935 50C Hudson MS67 NGC.
Rohan continued, "We are pleased to offer more selections from the amazing Phillip Morse collection of the coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Part One of this collection set a new world's record for the greatest single-session, one-owner coin auction of all time at our November Dallas (nee Palm Beach) Signature Auction."
"Phillip H. Morse has been a consummate numismatist and avid collector for more than four decades. In 1969, Mr. Morse founded North American Instrument Corp., which developed the first fluid delivery system for use in cardiac catheterizations - the Morse Manifold. This product and many others developed by Morse's company are used in the vast majority of cardiac catheterizations worldwide. NAMIC made an initial public offering in 1991 and was acquired by Pfizer in 1995, and is now a division of Boston Scientific Corporation. In retirement, Mr. Morse, who is also an owner and vice chairman of the World champion Boston Red Sox, has had an opportunity to devote time and energy to his love of fine coins and collectibles, resulting in this fabulous collection."
