Heritage January Comics Auction Pulls Out All the Stops!
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers (HG&A) will present their latest Comic and Original Comic Art Signature Auction on January 20 & 21, 2006, in Dallas, Texas.
"This is probably our most ambitious auction yet," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President of HG&A," with literally something for everyone."
"For comic collectors," Jaster began, "we're offering all ten of Overstreet's Top Ten Most Valuable Comic Books, including Action Comics #1, CGC-graded Apparent VF- 7.5 Moderate (P) with Off-white to white pages, Detective Comics #27, CGC-graded Apparent FN 6.0 Slight (P) with Off-white to white pages copy, the legendary 'Pay Copy' of Marvel Comics #1, CGC-graded VF/NM 9.0 with Off-white pages, and the Kansas City copy of Captain America #1, CGC-graded VF/NM 9.0 with Cream to off-white pages."
"In addition to the above," Jaster said, "we have treasures from some of the most outstanding pedigree collections, including the Mile High copy of More Fun Comics #73 - the first appearance of Green Arrow and Speedy, as well as the origin and first appearance of Aquaman - CGC-graded NM 9.4 with White pages, the Crowley copy of Whiz Comics #54, CGC-graded NM/MT 9.8 with Off-white pages, Namora #1, CGC-graded NM/MT 9.8 with White pages from the Vancouver collection,, the Larson copy of More Fun Comics #52 - the origin and first appearance of the Spectre - CGC-graded NM- 9.2 with Off-white to white pages, the Denver copy of Daring Mystery Comics #1, CGC-graded NM 9.4 with Off-white pages, the Rockford copy of Adventure Comics #72 - featuring Joe Simon and Jack Kirby's first work for DC - CGC-graded VF+ 8.5 with Cream to off-white pages, and the Gaines File copy 1/12 of Aces High #1, CGC-graded NM+ 9.6 with Off-white to white pages."
"Original art collectors will find a treasure-trove of material in this auction," said Jaster, "including a very special piece, a Mickey Mouse daily strip drawn by Ub Iwerks and signed by Walt Disney. This is only the fourth such Iwerks strip known to exist, and represents a major find for Disney enthusiasts."
"Another exceptional piece of original art is Wally Wood's cover to Weird Science #21, a stunning creation featuring a daring hero, a fair damsel in distress (as only Wood could draw her!), and a terrifying monster. This piece has everything a 'Woody' could want, so I expect it to inspire some serious bidding!"
"One of the most exciting portions of this auction is the session devoted to the art and memorabilia of MAD Magazine," Jaster said. "In cooperation with DC Comics and the staff of MAD, we're featuring a wonderful selection of material associated with America's first satire comic. Most of this material has been held in the MAD vaults for years, and is just now being offered for public sale. This valuable collection includes work by such legendary MAD-men as Don Martin, Antonio Prohias, Sergio Aragones, Jack Davis, and many others. In addition, private collections from MAD contributor Dick DeBartolo, artist Richard Williams, and items from the estate of George Woodbridge will also be offered. Some of the highlights of this exciting session include Al Jaffee's original Fold-In art from the inside back cover of MAD #231, a set of Alfred E. Neuman Cuff Links, ca.1994, one of very few known sets of these promotional cufflinks give to MAD's distributors from the collection of MAD writer Dick DeBartolo, and Jack Davis' complete 6-page story for 'What's My Shine,' a biting and incisive parody of Senator Joseph McCarthy and the infamous Army-McCarthy hearings, from the pages of MAD #17."
"This is a great way to kick-start what I predict will be our best year ever," said Jaster. "The comic and original comic art market is strong and robust, and I expect to see bidders turn out in droves for the storied rarities we've managed to assemble for this exceptional event."
