Heritage Currency Auction Posts Outstanding Results!
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers held its most recent Currency Signature Auction January 6-7, 2006 as the official auctioneer of the Florida United Numismatists Convention. The auction of 4,748 lots realized $7,579,247, although after auction sales are still ongoing.
"The star of this show was undoubtedly the 'Del Monte' note," said Greg Rohan, President of HG&A. "This legendary error, in which a Del Monte banana sticker was affixed to a $20 bill during the printing process, received international publicity, including a featured spot on NBC's The Today Show. Purchased by a couple who read the AP story in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the note, which previously sold on eBay for $10,000 in 2004, realized $25,300 in our auction."
"This was a very strong auction, and a great way to start the New Year," said Rohan. "I'm personally looking forward to 2006 being even better than 2005 - the best year in Heritage's history - and I'm excited about our next Currency auction, scheduled for April 27-29 in Columbus, Ohio, as the Official Auctioneer of the Central States Numismatic Society Convention!"
