Heritage Vintage Movie Poster Auction a Star-Studded Affair!
DALLAS, TEXAS: "This is, without a doubt, the most ambitious Vintage Movie Poster Auction we've ever held," said Grey Smith, Director of Movie Poster Auctions for Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries. "The fact is, it's really three auctions in one!"
"The first part of our upcoming auction," Smith said, "contains more than 900 rare and vintage American movie posters. This section contains something for everyone, from the exceptionally elusive Style A and B one sheets to 1933's Son of Kong to the rarely seen Style B one sheet for Citizen Kane to the legendary one sheet to Grand Hotel."
"Virtually every genre in the history of filmmaking is represented in this auction," said Smith, "from silents to Westerns to horror to sci-fi to melodramas to musicals and more. Fans of Humphrey Bogart, for example, won't want to miss such exquisite pieces as the stunning lobby cards from The Maltese Falcon, or the lovely six sheet from Dark Passage, among many other treasures celebrating Bogie's life and career."
"The second part of our latest auction consists of almost 400 lovely Swedish movie posters," Smith said. "These are beautiful pieces of art, often much more attractive than their American counterparts. These are almost all from the original releases of the movies they represent, and offer wonderful images. Titles like The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Black Cat, Blonde Venus, and The Sea Hawk offer great value for the money, with striking designs that are seldom seen in this country."
"The third piece of our auction," Smith continued, "is a marvelous collection of vintage stills from the Culver City Archives. The 'Lost Hollywood' Collection is represented here by 150 still images taken by such legendary photographers as George Hurrel, Ernest Bachrach, Robert Coburn, and Eugene Robert Richee. These were not the standard shots that were widely distributed to the media of the day; in fact, these were 'special' shots that were taken for special purposes and given out on a very limited basis. They represent the pinnacle of the photographer's art during the Golden Age of Hollywood."
"This is an extremely exciting auction," Smith said, "and I'd urge anyone with even the slightest interest in movie to take a look at our website, www.HeritageAuctions.com/MoviePosters, to see the full range of material being offered."
Heritage Auction Galleries' upcoming Vintage Movie Poster Signature Auction will be held July 12 & 13, 2006 in Dallas, Texas. For more information, or to bid online, please visit www.HeritageAuctions.com/MoviePosters.
