Heritage Comic Auction Offers Pop Culture Treasures!
DALLAS, TEXAS: A plethora of comic and original comic art treasures abound in Heritage Auction Galleries latest Comic Signature Auction.
"This is a very exciting auction, and one that I'm sure will be long remembered," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President for Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries.
"Leading the pack of exciting rarities being presented is the first part of the Davis Crippen Collection of Comic Books. While collectors may not be familiar with Crippen's name, they undoubtedly know of his books, as a handful of key titles from his collection surfaced several years ago and have since been dubbed 'D' copies. These exquisite Golden Age gems, each one lovingly handled and preserved for lo these many years, are finally being released to the collecting public, and will no doubt set the comic's collecting fraternity on it's collective ear. Featured in this marvelous collection are such beauties as the finest-known copy of the legendary Suspense Comics #3, as well as beautiful copies of such hard-to-find books as Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #1 and Detective Comics #35. Golden Age aficiandos won't want to miss this, the most significant original-owner collection since the Mile High horde was discovered."
"Of course, not all our outstanding Golden Age offerings hail from the Crippen collection," Jaster said. "We're also offering other desirable rarities, including the Mile High copy of Lev Gleason's Daredevil Comics #1, the legendary Daredevil Battles Hitler issue, the Larson copy of More Fun Comics #52, and a beautiful double cover example of 1941's Green Lantern #1!"
"Original art collectors will want to be socking away funds now," Jaster said, "as there are several paintings in our upcoming auction that will surely be hotly contested. The first is Frank Frazetta's iconic painting that first appeared on the cover of Creepy #17, featuring a grim and foreboding hooded executioner, axe at the ready. This painting has inspired countless nightmares, and it can now be yours!"
"Another masterful painting is Jim Steranko's gorgeous rendering of the Shadow," Jaster said. "Based on George Rozen's original work, rendered for the November 1, 1936 issue of The Shadow pulp magazine, 'Partners in Peril,' this is the Scourge of Evil as we all want to see him: eyes blazing and guns blaring. The original art for Steranko's Pyramid Books Shadow covers from the 1970s never enter the market - Jim has retained all 23 of them - so this is the closest you're likely to come to owning a Shadow painting by this legendary artist. Really, it doesn't get any better than this."
"We're also pleased to offer a significant collection of Charles Schulz Peanuts originals," Jaster said, "including a spectacular daily from 1951, the first year of the strip, and a lovely 1962 Sunday featuring Snoopy atop his ever-present dog house. If you've been waiting for just the right time to buy an original Schulz, or if you've been looking for just the right piece, look no further; your time has come!"
"No matter what your area of interest, no matter what your budget, there's something for everyone in this upcoming auction," Jaster said. "I'd encourage everyone to visit our website, www.HA.com/Comics, where you can view full-color, enlargeable images of each lot and even place your bids online. Better yet, come to the auction in person! I'll look forward to seeing you there!"
