Vintage Movie Poster Auction to be Held in Dallas in November

DALLAS, TEXAS: In what may be the most massive gathering of celebrities under one roof, Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries has announced its latest offering of Vintage Movie Posters, featuring the best paper and images from nearly a century of movie history.

"What's being offered in this auction? I almost don't know where to start," said Grey Smith, Director of Vintage Movie Poster auctions for Heritage. "This auction is jam-packed with treasures, from classics of the silent screen to more modern masterworks."

"An exciting area of poster collecting is the half sheet," said Smith. "Literally half the size of a one sheet, this format is becoming increasingly popular with collectors due to its fabulous graphics and convenient display size. In this auction, we're offering a variety of exceptional half sheets, including the exceptionally rare War of the Worlds Style B half sheet - probably the nicest piece ever made for this classic film - the only known copy of the Marx Brother's Duck Soup half sheet, arguably their finest film, as well as wonderful half sheets for such classic titles as Invasion of the Body Snatchers Style B, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Wolfman - another incredibly rare piece - the very desirable B style for The Cat People, and Chaplin's The Gold Rush - the rarely seen alternate style."

"Lobby and Window cards, also popular with collectors, are well represented in this auction," Smith continued. "Leading the pack is a beautiful card from the Edward G. Robinson classic Little Caesar. Paper on this title in incredibly scarce, so the chance to bid on a card like this is not one to be taken lightly. Fans of silent horror won't want to miss the ber-rare title card from Lon Chaney's The Phantom of the Opera. There's also a Jumbo Window Card from the always-popular Wizard of Oz, a title card from The Canary Murder Case, an exceptional lobby from the landmark silent film, Metropolis, and a quartet of Marx Brothers window cards from Horse Feathers, Duck Soup, The Cocoanuts, and A Night at the Opera."

Up for auction in November will be Swedish one sheets for Casablanca and The Gold Rush, British Quads for The African Queen - featuring some of the best art ever produced for this highly collectible title - Hamlet, and The Red Shoes, and French posters for A Nous A Libert, a Double Grande for Napoleon, and a beautiful Grande from Jean Cocteau's La Belle et la Bte."

From The Adventures of Robin Hood, Devil Dogs of the Air, and My Darling Clementine, to Pinocchio, The Big Sleep, and the Peter Lorre starmaker, M, fans of three sheets are going to have plenty to go wild for in this auction.
