Heritage Comics Auction Posts Impressive Results!
DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage Auction Galleries' most recent auction of rare and vintage comic books and original comic art realized $2,591,236 for 2,608 lots offered, although after auction sales are still ongoing, and are expected to push the final total even higher.
"This is a wonderful way to finish our fifth year as the world leader in the sale of rare comic books and original art," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President for Dallas-based Heritage. "Next year should be even better yet, as we already have some spectacular material in-house for our January auction, and we're looking down the road at some very exciting events following that. I'd encourage all of our friends and fellow collectors to stick with us, and keep an eye on our website at www.HA.com for all the latest news regarding upcoming auctions, long-held collections, and newly discovered four-color treasures."
"One category I'd like to single out for special mention is our fine offering of Silver Age material in this auction," Jaster said. "Always a strong section, this time bidders seemed particularly enthusiastic, with the result that many books sold way over their current Guide values. Take, for example, the Flash #116, CGC-graded NM 9.4 with off-white to white pages, that sold for $6,572, an astounding 13 times Guide! Or the Western Penn copy of Flash #141, CGC-graded NM+ 9.6 with off-white to white pages, that brought $2,868, a full 16 times Guide! If you're thinking that Barry Allen, the Scarlet Speedster, was a particular favorite amongst bidders this time around, you're absolutely right as the previous results were entirely dwarfed by the Western Penn copy of Flash #139, CGC-graded NM+ 9.6 with white pages, which we felt might bring ten times Guide. By the time all the dust had cleared, this sweet book realized $8,365, or a stunning 31 times Guide! With prices like this, we're starting to think that Silver is the new gold!"
