Heritage Posts Impressive After-Auction Comic Sales!

DALLAS, TEXAS: As a follow-up to their highly successful auction of vintage comic books an original art, Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries announced today that they have sold two additional important pieces in their after-auction period for a total of $178,700. The total for the entire auction now stands at $2,824,893.

"The two pieces sold were consigned by Steve Geppi, owner of both Diamond International Galleries and Geppi's Entertainment Museum of Baltimore, Maryland," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President for Heritage. "Steve has decided to make a few of his rare treasures, such as these exquisite items, available to the collecting public, and we're thrilled that these pieces have found homes with two leading collectors."

"The Batman #1 is from the Kansas City collection," Jaster said, "and is one of the nicest unrestored copies in existence, CGC-graded VF+ 8.5 with off-white pages. For comic collectors, this is one of the most significant books in the hobby, and the opportunity to own an outstanding specimen such as this one doesn't come around very often."

"Also sold during the after-auction was a superb Alex Raymond Flash Gordon Sunday page dated May 26, 1935," said Jaster. "Considered by many to be one of the finest artists ever to grace the newspaper comics page, Raymond influenced a generation of comic artists to come after him. His Flash Gordon work is particularly known for its lush, illustrative style and the strips from this brief period, when Raymond started working in this large, full-page format, are considered particularly desirable. This particular page, which features Flash, Dale Arden, and the Witch Queen, Azura, is a true treasure, and has everything an advanced collector could want in a Flash Gordon Sunday."

Heritage Auction Galleries' next Comics Signature Auction will be held January 18-20 in their Dallas, Texas world headquarters.
