Lisa Simpson to Sell Saxophone in Upcoming Heritage Auction!
Dallas, TX: An important part of America's pop cultural history is about to be offered at auction: the personal saxophone of cartoon icon Lisa Simpson.
The saxophone, which can be heard in the original "Life in Hell" bumpers on The Tracy Ullman Show, was also played on The Simpson's own TV show, now in its 20th season, most prominently in the celebrated opening sequence and in the episode featuring jazz musician "Bleeding Gums" Murphy. It can also be heard on the bestselling albums The Simpson's Sing the Blues (which were awarded both Gold and Platinum records) and The Simpson's Yellow Album.
Ms. Simpson could not be reached for comment, but she issued a statement through her spokesman, Doug Norwine, Director of Music and Entertainment Auctions for Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries: "Although this saxophone has played an important part in my life for many years, I feel that it is time to release it into the world, where it can find a new life in the hands of one of my many fans. This way, wherever it goes, I can be a part of a larger musical world, rather than merely being stuck in Springfield. I look forward to the opportunity to spread the joys of music throughout the world. Was that all right, Mr. Norwine?"
Norwine himself added, "Not only are we offering this iconic saxophone, arguably the most famous saxophone in existence, but we're including in this stunning lot the sax case with Lisa Simpson's signature, the platinum presentation album for The Simpson's Sing the Blues, and much more. There is absolutely no truth to the rumors that the proceeds from this auction will be used to either bribe a high-ranking government official to keep Bart out of Iraq, to pay for Homer's stint in rehab, or to fund new hair weaves for Marge. This auction, simply, represents the desires of a generous little girl offering a piece of history to her legion of fans."
Heritage Auction Galleries will offer Lisa Simpson's Saxophone in their upcoming Music and Entertainment Signature auction, to be held on April 14 & 15, 2007, at their headquarters in Dallas, TX.
