Original Art for Price Guide Covers Highlights August Heritage Auction at Geppi's Entertainment Museum
Dallas, TX: For the first time ever, original cover art for several editions of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide will be offered to the collecting public at the next Heritage Auction Galleries. Comic and Comic Art auction, to be held August 2-4, 2007 at Geppi's Entertainment Museum in Baltimore, MD.
"Alex Schomburg's cover for Guide #21 is familiar to every comic collector," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President for Heritage, "and the same is true for Mark Bagley and John Romita's Spider-Man for #22 and Alex Ross's Flash for #27. However, it's fairly well-known that almost all of the original art for the Guides has been in the collection of Steve Geppi of Gemstone Publishing and not available for purchase."
"Now the collection at Geppi's Entertainment Museum has grown too large for everything to be displayed," Jaster said, "so the collecting public will get their first chance at these wonderful items, as well as such incredibly desirable pieces as Carl Barks' First National Bank of Cibola painting and original art by Floyd Gottfredson, Hal Foster, Burne Hogarth, Winsor McCay, Chester Gould, Jim Steranko, and more."
"Mr. Geppi's consignment is made up of more than just original art,. Jaster continued, .as he's also consigning 30 boxes of comics from Robert M. Overstreet's famous personal collection."
"And of course, this mammoth event is by no means limited to Mr. Geppi's colossal consignment,. Jaster said. .We've got our usual complement of treasures from consignors across the country. To name just a few: the entire Mile High run of Green Lantern, including #1, the Keith Marlow Collection of DC war comics, a collection of rare All-Story pulps, including the landmark first appearance of Tarzan, and John Byrne original art from the legendary X-Men saga, .Days of Future Past,. as well as more high-grade comics from the Janowicz Collection, the Warren Hall Collection, and the Cary and Cheryl Porter Collection."
"Not only do we expect a record crowd at the auction in Baltimore," Jaster said, "we're taking the highlights with us to show at Comic Con International in San Diego this summer, so the lots in this auction will have unparalleled exposure."
Heritage will accept consignments for this auction through June 19, 2007.
