Heritage Presents the Walter J. Husak Collection!

The Finest Collection of Early Large Cents Ever Auctioned!

Dallas, TX: Heritage Auction Galleries, the world's leading numismatic auctioneer, will present coins from the Walter J. Husak Collection at several upcoming shows, leading to an auction in February 2008.

"This remarkable collection contains 292 of the 295 Sheldon numbered varieties of large cents dated from 1793 to 1814," said Greg Rohan, President of Heritage. "The majority of pieces rank within the Condition Census for their respective varieties, including several that are finest known specimens. Mr. Husak also has a keen sense of collecting history, thus provenance was an important aspect in the formation of this collection. Just one example is the famous 1799 Abbey Cent, a coin that was acquired from the Eliasberg Collection, with a continuous pedigree record dating back to the 1840s."

Born in 1942, Walter Husak began buying and selling coins in his early teens. In 1963, he used the proceeds from the sale of his coin collection to buy a 1954 Cadillac convertible, which led him to his second great passion: restoring vintage automobiles. In 1980, Husak once again turned his attention to numismatics, and bought his first Sheldon large cent variety in 1986. This sparked his interest in acquiring all the Sheldon varieties, the results of which can be seen in this magnificent collection.

"Although it's too soon to talk about the collection in great detail," Rohan said, "I can tell you that we'll be showing highlights at several upcoming events, including August 8-11, 2007, at the ANA convention in Milwaukee, WI; September 26-28, 2007 in Long Beach, CA; and January 9-12, 2008, at the FUN convention in Orlando, FL. This all leads to the auction of the coins, which will be held February 13-16, 2008 in Long Beach, CA."
