Heritage Music & Entertainment Auction Offers Star-Studded Treasures!

Personal Memorabilia from Peter Fonda, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton Featured

Dallas, TX: On October 6 & 7, collectors will have a chance to bid on and acquire an impressive selection of treasures from the celebrity world in Heritage Auction Galleries' latest Music & Entertainment Signature Auction.

"From classic film stars to legendary musicians, this auction presents some of the most incredible entertainment treasures ever to be offered in one place," said Doug Norwine, Director of Music & Entertainment auctions for Heritage.

"Where to start?" Norwine said. "How about with the personal memorabilia being offered from the collection of Peter Fonda. The son of legendary actor Henry Fonda, Peter made his own indelible mark on Hollywood history when he wrote and co-starred in the iconic 1969 film, Easy Rider. Considered then, and now, one of the defining films of a generation, Easy Rider is a classic, beloved by millions all over the world. We're pleased to offer, in our upcoming auction, the actual 'Captain America' flag worn on the back of Fonda's jacket throughout the film, and from which his character derived his colorful nickname. Bidders will also have a chance to compete for the DOD badge Fonda wore in the film, as well as his Rolex watch and the Gold Record Peter won for the soundtrack. If you're a fan of Fonda, this is an event you won't want to miss."

"Movie fans will have even more to chose from," Norwine said, "when they see such incredible artifacts as Donnie Dunagan's original Disney contract to provide the voice for Bambi in the original 1942 film, as well as an incredible collection of material related to his role as Peter, the son of Basil Rathbone's Wolf Frankenstein in Son of Frankenstein (1939). There's also an amazing archive of material relating to comic geniuses Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, including signed original contracts representing virtually all their classic work for Hal Roach Studios, and more treasures from the collection of make-up artist Emil LaVigne."

"If that's still not enough for you," Norwine said, "feast your eyes on an impressive group of items from the personal collection of Invaders actor Roy Thinnes, or an extensive archive of material documenting the life and career of Marion Marsh, best known for her roles in such vintage horror films as Svengali (1931), The Black Room (1935), and Crime and Punishment (1935). Truly, this auction is a movie fan's paradise."

"Of course, music collectors haven't been forgotten," said Norwine. "Janis Joplin fans will have a chance to bid on a gorgeous, scoop-necked knit mini-dress, a Colin Rose original design, which was owned and worn by this great artist. The dress was a gift from Joplin to Christine Brooks, then Publicity Director for the Fillmore, and was one of two of the same design owned by Joplin; the other was the beige version she wore at the historic Monterey Pop Festival. Given to Brooks on a visit to Joplin's home, the dress has been a treasured item ever since; this is the first time the piece has been available for auction."

"Important instruments have been popular in our past auctions, and we've really pulled out all the stops to bring out some of the very best this time around," said Norwine. "Leading off this impressive selection is Bruce Langhorne's tambourine, the very instrument that was the inspiration for Bob Dylan's classic hit, 'Mr. Tambourine Man.' Dylan saw Langhorne playing this big, Turkish-style frame drum - a style that has bells inside the rim giving it a tambourine-like sound - at a party and music history was made."

"Eric Clapton would certainly be included in any list of the greatest guitarists of the modern era," Norwine said, "and we're pleased to offer a guitar played by this legendary musician. Not just any guitar, mind you, but one with a truly unique story. On September 13, 1995, during his From the Cradle Tour, Clapton was in Philadelphia. A fan handed Clapton's guitar manager, Lee Dickson, this instrument, a red Gibson Firebird, and asked him to give it to the artist with his best wishes. The manager handed the guitar to Clapton before the show and explained the circumstances, and Clapton requested that the instrument be restrung with a set of .010 gauge strings. Demonstrating his deep consideration for his fans, Clapton reached for the guitar during the show, and proceeded the play the blues classics, 'Third Degree' and 'Reconsider Baby.' We're told that the fan's screams of joy could be clearly heard over the roar of the crowd. A video of this performance, courtesy of photographer Minoru Tsubota, can be seen at our website by visiting www.HA.com/648-058001."

"We're also offering an assortment of classic, non-celebrity guitars," Norwine said, "from the collection of 'Rockin'' Jimmy Crimmins. The best of the best is represented in the Jimmy Crimmins 'Vintage Connection' Guitar Collection , from an exquisite 1959 Gibson Les Paul Custom 'Black Beauty' to a beautiful 1956 Fender Stratocaster 'See Thru Blonde' and more. Guitars of this quality are rarely offered to the collecting public, making this an extremely important auction to guitar collectors worldwide."

"There's so much more that this auction has to offer," Norwine said. "Everything mentioned here barely scratches the surface. Bidders will also find an assortment of Beatles and Elvis items guaranteed to knock the socks off even the most jaded collector, five Elvis 45s on the Sun label in near mint condition, an astounding group of props and wardrobe from television and film classics, a wide array of the rarest music posters we've ever presented, and much, much more."

"If this little taste of our upcoming auction intrigues you," Norwine added, "I'd invite you to visit www.HA.com, where you'll find full-color enlargeable images of each and every lot, along with our complete and informative catalog descriptions. You can even place your bids online from the comfort and convenience of your home or office. Well, what are you waiting for?"
