Kansas Collector Wins Mint State MCMVII High Relief $20

Dallas, TX -- Stacy Chacon, a Kansas collector specializing in Mercury Dimes, was selected as the winner of a 1907 High Relief Double Eagle, certified Mint State by NGC. This was the seventh High Relief Saint that Heritage has given away to winners of their annual survey. Mr. Chacon, who has been collecting coins for a decade, was thrilled to receive the Grand Prize from Heritage's Annual 2002 Auction Survey, out of more than 6,000 surveys submitted. Was he surprised? “I never thought in a million years that I would be the one you would call to say ‘You won.’" Additionally, the free trip to the ANA Convention in New York City was won by Pat Sliva of Ohio, and three Mint State Saints were given to ANA members who responded.

"My main interest recently has been upgrading my Full Band Mercury Dime Registry set, listed by PCGS as the 'S.A. Chacon' set," Mr. Chacon noted during his telephone conversation with HNAI Director Bob Korver. “I started collecting coins about 10 years ago. I'm not sure exactly what got me started, but a knowledgeable and friendly dealer kept me interested and eager to learn more. Through the years I have collected widely, but my favorite remains the Mercury Dime. The majority of my collection was uncertified, but just over a year ago I decided to try for a spot on a PCGS registry set. The S.A. Chacon Collection of Mint State Mercury Dimes now stands at 47% complete, with 100% Full Bands. All but a small handful were bought through a Heritage auction or your online inventory.”

"My wife is also an avid collector of paper money, and I hope to someday bring my daughter (who is almost 2 now, into the hobby),” added Mr. Chacon.

“In a small way, Mr. Chacon’s daughter has already been participating in numismatics,” added Korver. “After his survey was selected, we couldn’t help but notice that the front page was covered with a most intriguing display of art, largely inclined toward the Swirl School of Modernism. How wonderful that his daughter could participate in this exciting event.”

Continued Mr. Chacon: “Even though this wonderful present is outside our chosen specialties, I'm pretty sure that we will keep it. Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed a beautiful coin, and I cannot tell you how exciting it is to be selected. When the time comes to sell it will be to upgrade more Mercury Dimes."

Mr. Chacon has been an active participant in Heritage's auctions through the Internet, and he especially likes our online price guide and "Buy It Now" feature for online inventory. Over the past year, he has used many of the other features available free to members at www.HeritageCoin.com, including My Heritage, My Bids, My Profile, My Want List, and My Collection. "And now I have My High Relief $20," the happy winner concluded.
