9.26 Carat GIA D/IF Type IIa Diamond Sets Record At $902,500 In Heritage Auctions’ Dec. 3 Jewelry Event

House record set at Jewelry Signature Auction, Dec. 3, in Dallas

DALLAS — A 9.26 carat GIA D/IF Type IIa unmounted diamond brought $902,500 in Heritage Auctions' Dec. 3 Jewelry Signature® Auction, setting a new house record for a price realized for jewelry in a Heritage event. The totally colorless and internally flawless diamond is classified as Type IIa, very rare in nature and found in less than 2% of the world's diamonds.

Sold to an unidentified private individual bidding by phone the diamond "is about as perfect as a diamond can get," said Jill Burgum, Director of Fine Jewelry at Heritage.

The Type IIa diamond marks the second time this year Burgum has set a house record for jewelry at Heritage: a spectacular 8.99 carat Kashmir Sapphire ring brought $527,500 at Heritage in April.

The Dec. 3 auction presented a breadth of large and impressive diamond rings and bidders liked what they saw. A 4.47 carat weight diamond white gold ring sold for $95,500; an 8.24 carat total weight diamond platinum ring set sold for $92,500; and a 10.32 carat total weight diamond platinum JB star ring sold for $77,500. All prices include Buyer's Premium.
