Heritage Brokers the Legendary Denver Copy of Marvel #1 from Steve Geppi to The Mint

DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage Comics Auctions (HCA) has arranged a private treaty transaction for the legendary Denver copy of Marvel #1. The seller was Steve Geppi, owner of Diamond International Galleries, and the buyer was Jay Parrino of The Mint, both of whom are significant clients of Heritage.

The book was graded by CGC in mid-August as VF+ 8.5 with off-white pages.

“Steve Geppi consigned it to our October auction immediately after receiving the grade from CGC,” says Heritage co-founder Jim Halperin. “We gave it a pre-sale value estimate of $300,000 and up. I was very excited about auctioning the book, of course, as it clearly would have been the highlight of the sale, probably exceeding the price record for any comic at auction to date. But Bill Hughes of The Mint became aware of the consignment and asked if he could buy it outright on behalf of Jay Parrino. Bill’s offer was so substantial that we felt obliged to relay his offer to John Snyder at Diamond. Within a few hours, we hammered out a deal that was very satisfactory to all parties.”

The price is undisclosed, but described as “somewhere in the mid six figures”.
