Farrah Fawcett's 10.95 Carat Diamond Platinum Ring Brings $245,000 At Heritage Auctions

Ring doubles estimate to take top lot honors in $6.3 million fine jewelry event Dec. 9 in Dallas

DALLAS — Farrah Fawcett's stunning 10.95 carat diamond platinum engagement ring more than doubled its estimate to sell for $245,000 in Heritage Auctions' $6.3+ million Fine Jewelry Signature Auction in Dallas. More than 1,200 lots changed hands and nine lots sold in excess of $100,000 during the Dec. 9 jewelry auction, including a pair of 8.8 carat diamond platinum earrings for $209,000.

The Dec. 9 auction was offered as part of a three-day, $10.1+ million offering of fine jewelry and Heritage's Holiday Luxury Signature Auction, featuring the finest selection of brands from Hermès, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton to Celine and Judith Leiber."We knew our big diamonds would be popular and we were pleasantly surprised to see multiple bidders competing on a variety of lots," said Jill Burgum, Senior Director of Fine Jewelry at Heritage. "Everyone found something to like in this auction."

Large diamonds were in high demand as a Gentleman's 15.25 carat Diamond Platinum-Topped Gold Ring brought $161,000, a 9.91 emerald cut Diamond Platinum Ring by Cartier reached $149,000 and an 8.76 carat Diamond Platinum Ring hammered for $137,000.

Demand for colored diamonds remains solid as a 6.90 carat VS1 Unmounted Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond realized $118,750. Likewise, unique pieces generated strong interest as 11 bidders pushed the hammer price for a rare and unusual Black Opal Necklace by Tiffany & Co. four times past its estimate to $125,000. The necklace is descended from the Kip family of Montclair, N.J.

A stunning emerald-cut 5.01 carat Diamond Platinum Ring sold for $112,500 and a dazzling European-cut 3.70 carat Diamond Platinum Ring, accented by baguette-cut diamonds, brought $93,750.

Additional highlights include, but are not limited to:

A Tiffany & Co., Enamel, Gold, Shell Parasol Handle, which ended at $20,000.

A Diamond, Cultured Pearl, Platinum Gold Necklace, featuring full-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 14.50 carats, which sold five times its estimate for $87,500.

A round brilliant-cut Unmounted Diamond weighing 4.55 carats sold for a strong $84,375.
