Warner Collection of Ancients to Anchor Heritage’s HWCA Auction At FUN 2003

Dallas, Texas: Heritage World Coin Auctions has announced that their January 2003 Signature auction will be anchored by an incredible collection of ancient coinage from the estate of John L. Warner. The auction will be held at the Florida United Numismatists convention, January 10-11, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

The collection includes:
Macedonia. Demetrios Poliorketes. 294-288 BC AR Tetradrachm, Amphipolis mint.
Macedonia. Alexander III (the Great). 336-323 BC AR Tetradrachm, Memphis mint.
Phoenicia. Shekel of Tyre 115/114 BC
Rome. Vespasian gold Aureus AD 69-79
Rome. Claudius gold Aureus AD 41-54
Macedonia. Alexander III (the Great). 336-323 BC AR Tetradrachm, Sidon mint.
Macedonia. Phillip II. 359-336 BC. AV Quarter Stater, Pella mint.
Macedonia. Phillip II. 359-336 BC. AV Eighth Stater, Pella mint.

“The Warner Collection will anchor our FUN 2003 auction,” announced Warren Tucker, HWCA Director. “This collection rivals that of Dr. Joseph M. Seventko, which anchored our July New York City auction that realized more than $1 million. Having a centerpiece collection as important as the Warner Collection guarantees that the attention of serious collectors around the world will be riveted to this auction, and it also encourages additional consignments from collectors who will want their coins to sell alongside the Warner Collection. We are also pleased that Dr. Paul Rynearson will be cataloging this important assemblage.”

John Lindorf Warner, who died last May at the age of 74, was an extraordinary local citizen and philanthropist. A lifelong resident of Licking County, Ohio, he held deep ties to the Newark community. A Newark High School graduate, he started his own insurance company, Warner and Son, after graduating from Denison University. He later served on the boards of Park National Bank, Shepherd Hill Hospital, the Licking County Foundation, the Par Excellence School of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and the Shaffner Society supporting Licking Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church for more than half a century.

Warner's philanthropy often benefited youth. He was honorary chairman of Our Campus for Tomorrow, the capital campaign of the Newark Campus of Ohio State University, and donated $1.5 million to their new performing arts facility. He also served on the board of the Newark Campus Development Fund Foundation, and gave the largest single donation in the history of the campus: $4.5 million to build the John and Christine Warner Library and Student Center.

“Heritage World Coin Auctions,” concluded Tucker, “offers the finest in ancient and world coins to audiences at major conventions and to more than 60,000 registered bidder-members on our award-winning Internet website, www.HeritageCoin.com. FUN, now America’s best-attended coin show, is an especially strong venue, with 10,000 visitors expected. Plus, FUN is being held just a few days prior to the New York International show, where HWCA will be auctioning the Belzberg Collection of Canadian Coinage, so we expect many foreign buyers to attend our Orlando auction before traveling to NYC.”

Concluded Tucker: “If you have been thinking of selling ancients, world coins or currency, we are currently accepting consignments for our next important auction at the FUN 2003 convention. Heritage has always offered wonderful world and ancient items at FUN, but next January will be something really special. The Florida United Numismatists show always provides an outstanding crowd anxious to buy world coins, and we intend to satisfy that demand.” Warren can be contacted at Heritage’s Dallas world headquarters, at 1-800-872-6467 Ext. 287 for more information about consigning.
