Heritage to Auction One of the Finest Amazing Spider-Man Comic Book Collections Ever Assembled

DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage's December 6-7 Signature Auction will feature the Deer Park Collection, the best near-complete run of Amazing Spider-Man comic books ever offered for sale at one time. Book after book in this run is absolutely stunning, with many (if not most) being the highest graded copy certified by CGC to date. Many of these copies are sure to hold up as the best ever. With a couple of 9.9s represented here for the first time in a Heritage auction, Heritage had to add that grade to our description program to accommodate those books! Just take a look at these highlights:

Amazing Fantasy #15 (Marvel, 1962) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white pages. "And so a legend is born, and a new name is added to the roster of those who make the world of fantasy the most exciting realm of all!" -- Stan Lee Stan's hyperbole strays little from the truth as Spider-Man debuts and reveals his origin in this Jack Kirby/Steve Ditko/Stan Lee classic. Because of the continued popularity of Spider-Man, and the difficulty of finding this comic in the highest grades, Amazing Fantasy #15 has become the preeminent Silver Age comic. This is an outstanding copy, which has the sharp corners and the "look" you would expect of a 9.6. According to the CGC census as of this writing, there are five copies grading 9.4 and one grading 9.6. It sounds like there's not nearly enough high-grade copies to go around, so don't be a timid teen like Parker, but toss a web around it like Spidey. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $42,000.

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white pages. This is simply a superb copy of the very first edition of Spider-Man in his own title. Next to Amazing Fantasy #15, this is second-most-demanded Silver Age comic. This is the first Fantastic Four crossover into another title, as Spider-Man tries to join their group. The cover is by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, but interior is all by Spider-Man's co-creator, Steve Ditko. According to the CGC census as of this writing, there is one copy in 9.8, and this copy is tied with one other for the second-highest grade. You've seen the movie; here's your chance to own one of the finest comics on the planet! Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $28,000.

The Amazing Spider-Man #14 Northland pedigree (Marvel, 1964) CGC NM+ 9.6 White pages. Written by Stan Lee and drawn by Steve Ditko, this issue, one of the most sought-after in the entire run, marks the debut of Green Goblin. Northland copies are known for their outstanding colors and pages, and this copy represents the best of the collection. According to the CGC census as of this writing, there is no higher-graded copy. This copy could be one of the cornerstone books of even the pickiest collector. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $2,500.

The Amazing Spider-Man #19 (Marvel, 1964) CGC MINT 9.9 Off-white to white pages. Yes, you read that correctly, this is a Mint 9.9 copy. That stratospheric grade is very rarely given to any book published prior to 1965, much less to any Amazing Spider-Mans. This copy awesomely deserves its rating with its razor sharp corners, fresh pages, and a near-complete lack of visible flaws. According to the CGC census as of this writing, this is the highest-graded copy. If you are on the road to building the best run of Spideys, then your journey must start with this copy. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $450.

The Amazing Spider-Man #23 (Marvel, 1965) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white to white. Third time's a charm for Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, as the Green Goblin charges back, in "The Goblin and the Gangsters." Only the most miniscule defects separate this from an even higher grade. According to the CGC census as of this writing, there is no higher-graded copy. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $525.

The Amazing Spider-Man #64 Massachusetts pedigree (Marvel, 1968) CGC NM/MT 9.8 White pages. John Romita's in-air battle between Spidey and the Vulture, set against a black-and-white city skyline background, is stunning, sure, but if you haven't seen it displayed on the highest-graded copy CGC has certified to date, you'd best view it sitting down. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $80.

The Amazing Spider-Man #66 Pacific Coast pedigree (Marvel, 1968) CGC NM/MT 9.8 Off-white to white pages. Mysterio is one of Spider-Man's greatest, and most interesting, villains. This white-covered comic just does not turn up for sale in high grades very often, and this one is the highest. At this writing, CGC has not certified any copies higher than this one, so in all likelihood, you are getting the best of the best. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $80.

The Amazing Spider-Man #73 (Marvel, 1969) CGC MINT 9.9 Off-white pages. Very few pre-1970s comics are given the exalted grade of Mint 9.9, as was rightly accorded to this copy. With colors and pages that look straight off the press, this would be hard to improve upon. This, as you would expect, is the highest-graded copy according to the CGC census as of this writing. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $80.

The Amazing Spider-Man #121 (Marvel, 1973) CGC NM/MT 9.8 White pages. Of the hundreds of copies of this issue that have been sent into CGC, only 2 have been given the NM/MT 9.8 grade! Few comics in the entire history of comics have achieved the kind of milestone status as this one has. This issue featured the death of Gwen Stacy, which rocked the Marvel Universe. Beloved comic characters had died before, but the creators had always found a way to bring them back, and the last page of this issue stunned the reader. This issue was released at at time when the reader/collector had no advance notice of story plots, as is now the case. Amazing Spider-Man #122 seemed to take forever to hit the spinner racks, and continued to stagger the reader. The fortunate buyer of this exquisite copy will have a true showpiece part of any collection of historic comics. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $185.

With the death of Gwen Stacy, in the previous issue, this historic event left every Marvelite breathless with an empathy toward Peter Parker at a level never before reached. The fortunate buyer of this exquisite copy will have a true showpiece part of any collection of historic comics. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $200.
