Heritage Numismatic Auctions to Auction More than 16,000 Lots at FUN and NYINC

Dallas, Texas: Heritage Numismatic Auctions, Inc. will be auctioning more than 16,000 lots from January 8-13, 2003 valued at nearly $25 million. The majority of the activity will take place in conjunction with the 2003 FUN Convention in Orlando, an event that will feature Heritage as the official auctioneer. Heritage is also auctioning the Sid and Alicia Belzberg Collection of Canadian Coinage as an official auction of the New York International Numismatic Convention.

The lots that Heritage will be auctioning at the 2003 FUN Convention are being offered in eight different catalogs, each of which is dedicated to either a specific type of numismatic material or a specialized collection. U.S. coin rarities will be available through Heritage’s FUN Signature Sale and Bullet Auction. The Joseph P. Gorrell Collection of Flying Eagle and Indian Cents, and the Ashland City Collection of Branch Mint Gold Coins and Other Rarities offer specialized collections of U.S. coins. From Heritage World Coin Auctions comes two Signature catalogs that feature Ancient and World rarities (as well as the Belzberg Collection that will be conducted in New York on January 13, which constitutes a ninth catalog). Finally, Currency Auctions of America-Heritage will be conducting their FUN Signature Sale the week of the convention, which will also include the Norman Pullen Collection of Maine Obsolete Currency in a dedicated catalog.

“The breadth of our auctioning activity in January 2003 is such that we may be shattering all previous auction records for number of lots and value auctioned in a limited time frame,” noted Heritage President Gregory J. Rohan. “We will be auctioning more than 16,000 lots over a period of just six days, and in two different cities! Previous record holders include Henry Chapman’s sale of the 7,300-lot John Story Jenks Collection, which was auctioned over a ten-day period in December of 1921. In addition, Kagin’s 1977 ANA Sale auctioned nearly 5,500 lots in five days. The estimates for the combined CAA-Heritage FUN and New York International auctions approach $25 million, roughly the total proceeds of the legendary Garrett collection, which sold in four separate auctions spanning a period of 16 months!”

According to Heritage’s Director of Auctions Bob Korver, “Not only is the breadth of our auctioning activity impressive, but the depth of the catalogs is also an important feature in our January offerings. For example, numerous examples of many rare U.S. coin issues are being auctioned either as part of our Signature Sale or in one of the associated specialized collections. We will be offering eight business strike and proof 1856 Flying Eagle Cents, 17 business strike and proof 1877 Indian Cents, ten 1932-D Washington Quarters, seven 1932-S Washington Quarters, two proof 1859 Seated Halves, six 1870-CC Seated Halves, two 1838 Gobrecht Dollars, and two 1873-CC Seated Dollars. And the list goes on.”

Visit the Heritage website, www.HeritageCoin.com, to view full color, enlargeable images of virtually every single-coin lot in the Heritage and Heritage World Coin Auctions sales, and every single-note lot in the CAA-Heritage sales are available at www.CurrencyAuction.com. Online bids are also being accepted at both sites.
