Latest Heritage Amazing Comics Auction™ Internet 13042

Dallas, TX - Heritage’s twice-monthly Amazing Comics Auction™ (ACA) sale #13042, ended Sunday, April 20, with 945 lots offered. 496 bidders placed bids, and 237 of them were successful, for a total sell-through of $143,232.65 for 802 lots (86.03% of lots offered).

A few highlights from the 04/20/03 ACA sale are:

Captain America Comics #1 (Timely, 1941) Condition: FN+ 6.5 Cream to off-white pages.
Featuring the origin and first appearance of Captain America and Bucky, as well as the into of Cap's long time nemesis, the Red Skull. One of the most sought-after issues in history, Captain America Comics #1 is climbing up the top 10 list of most valuable comics. The terrific cover by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby shows Cap pulverizing Adolf Hitler's jaw. This copy only has minor perimeter wear, and no major flaws. "Eldon" is written neatly in pen at the upper right hand corner of the front cover. The back cover is very clean, with very little wear. There are no distracting flaws to draw the eye away from the front covers incredible beauty. Overstreet 2002 FN 6.0 value = $19,350. Realized $18,975.00.

Marvel Mystery Comics #18 Recil Macon pedigree (Timely, 1941) CGC NM 9.4 Cream to off-white pages.
Schomburg's covers just keep getting better! The torture devices are becoming more inventive, this time featuring Toro encased in a cylinder, about to be lowered into certain doom. Hooded baddies are also included. Recil Macon did a good job preserving this one, as it managed to survive to this point as the best existing copy. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $2,400. Realized $6,325.00.

Adventure Comics #60 (DC, 1941) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white to white pages.
Terrific Sandman cover by Creig Flessel. Siegel/Shuster and Baily art. Second highest-graded copy of this issue by CGC to date. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $1,927; NM 9.4 value = $3,700. Realized $3,105.00.

Robert Crumb - Original Illustration (undated).
This small pen and ink on sketch paper is approximately 5" x 8" is incredibly detailed considering its small proportion. We are not sure where this drawing was published but it is certainly a nice piece of Crumb. The art is clean with some printer notes along the top edge. Realized $2,857.50.

Unknown artist - Original Cover Art for Black Cat Mystery #42 (Harvey, 1955).
A carnival attraction gone hideously wrong graces this horrific cover from Black Cat Mystery #42. The overall illustration paper size is 15" x 20" with an image area of 11" x 17". The art includes all of the original logo stats and paste-ups and is generally clean with a yellow segment from a missing paste-up at the bottom edge. Realized $2,415.00.

Tales From the Crypt #32 Gaines File pedigree 3/12 (EC, 1952) CGC NM+ 9.6 Cream to off-white pages.
Jack Davis cover; Davis, Evans, and Ingels art. No higher grade has been given by CGC for a copy of this issue. The Gaines Certificate of Authenticity is included. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $460. Realized $2,300.00.

Hawkman #1 (DC, 1964) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages.
Murphy Anderson cover and art. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $750. Realized $2,242.50.
