CAA-Heritage to Conduct 3500+ Lot Sale in Cincinnati

DALLAS, TEXAS:Currency Auctions of America-Heritage will present a 3500 plus lot all currency sale as the official auction of the Greater Cincinnati Numismatic Expo in Sharonville, Ohio. The sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 26-27, 2003, at the Sharonville Convention Center, the site of the show, 11355 Chester Road, Sharonville, Ohio. Featured offerings include the Gordon Harris collection of New York Scrip, the largest collection of North Carolina Obsolete Currency ever offered at public sale, a major collection of Error Notes, the Duke Hubbard collection of Large Size Type Notes, the Ray Wilson collection of Small Size Type Notes, selections from the Chet Krause collection of National Bank Notes, and material from over 125 other consignors.

The sale will open on Friday with several hundred lots of Colonial, Continental, and Fractional Currency, highlighted by the offering of two pink Fractional Currency Shields. An unusually broad selection of United States Bonds can be found in the Miscellaneous section, followed by an unprecedented offering of over 1000 lots of Obsolete Currency, with the aforementioned Harris and North Carolina collections taking center stage, but with significant selections of notes from Ohio and Texas as well. A major collection of error notes will then go under the hammer, including a unique double denomination large size National Bank Note from Lumberton, North Carolina.

Saturday will see the Ray Wilson collection of Small Size Type Notes hit the auction block, highlighted by several high denomination Gold Certificates, a major offering of $500 and $1000 bills, and the sale of both a $5,000 and a $10,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. Large Size Type Notes follow, anchored by the Hubbard collection, with this section featuring a Fr. 97 $10 1875 Legal Tender Note tied for the finest example known and a Fr. 1219e $1000 1907 Gold Certificate grading Extremely Fine-About New and carrying a $25,000-up pre-sale estimate. Of special note is the offering of an original pack of 100 Series 1880 $5 Legal Tender Notes, making its first appearance before the collecting fraternity in this sale.

Over 1000 lots of National Bank Notes conclude the sale, with significant offerings from New York, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin. The Krause consignment spans several states, highlighted by a Series 1929 example from Juneau, Alaska, and other rarities offered include a newly discovered $50 Date Back from Winnemucca, Nevada and a high grade $50 Date Back from Manor, Texas.
