Holman Family Collection to Anchor Heritage’s NYC Signature Sale

Dallas,Texas. Heritage Numismatic Auctions of Dallas will auction the Holman Family Collection in their New York City Signature Sale, November 8-10, 2003.

“The Holman Family Collection,” according to Heritage President Greg Rohan, “is an extremely eclectic gathering of specialty collections of high-grade American coins, totaling nearly 500 quality examples of America’s classic rare coins. James Holman’s collection, assembled over more than a decade, includes more than 150 proof minor coins in superlative condition, more than 150 impressive Silver Dollars from three series, nearly 75 Mint State and Proof Gold coins, 38 pieces of California Fractional Gold, and 26 Patterns. Each of these collections is worthy of note in its own right, but taken together, they demonstrate the broad range of scholarship and collecting interests of Mr. Holman. Most impressively, each collection shares similar superlative condition and outstanding eye-appeal, with many “finest known” pieces that will generate tremendous Registry demand.”

Added Heritage Co-Chairman Steve Ivy: “It can be difficult to pick a favorite area, such is the breadth of the entire collection. Certainly the Holman Family’s MS65 NGC High Relief is singularly impressive, but it becomes a real pleasure to try to balance that single coin against thirteen extraordinary early proof sets (1869 to 1902), or the complete proof sets of 2 Cents, 3 Cent Nickels, Shield Nickels, and Liberty Nickels. Looking at any of the individual coins, it’s obvious that these were selected with an eye trained in other collectibles areas, such is their eye-appeal. For more than a decade, the Holman family shared a love for these rare coins, and it shows.”
