Latest Heritage Amazing Comics Auction™ Internet 13112

Dallas, TX - Heritage’s Amazing Comics Auction™ (ACA) sale #13112 ended Sunday, November 16, with 700 lots offered. 418 bidders placed bids, and 200 of them were successful, for a total sell-through of $120,238.85 for 605 lots (86.42% of lots offered). 7 after-auction lots were purchased by 5 bidders, for a total of $2,296.55.

A few highlights from the 11/16/03 ACA sale are:

Fantastic Four #1 (Marvel, 1961) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white pages. The Marvel Age of Comics begins right here! Origin and first appearance of the Fantastic Four. Story by Stan Lee, art by Jack Kirby. Overstreet 2003 VF 8.0 value = $9,350. Realized $11,500.00

World's Best Comics #1 (DC, 1941) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Off-white pages. The title would change to World's Finest Comics with the next issue, while keeping the format of Superman and Batman stories for the next 45 years. Fred Ray contributed the simple but dramatic cover artwork. To date CGC has certified only three copies of this issue with grades higher than FN/VF 7.0. This comic has fantastic eye-appeal and no major defects, it is rare to see a copy in such nice condition. Overstreet 2003 FN 6.0 value = $4,287; VF 8.0 value = $10,000. Realized $5,290.00

New Book of Comics #1 (DC, 1937) CGC FN+ 6.5 White pages. This is the first regular-sized comic annual, and the second DC annual. It contains reprints from New Comics #1-4 and More Fun #9, with art by Joe Shuster, Sheldon Moldoff, and Sheldon Mayer. Gerber describes this comic as "rare" and estimates that only 11 to 20 copies still exist. Overstreet also calls this book "rare." A nice copy of an important comic. Overstreet 2003 FN 6.0 value = $6,000. Realized $4,600.00

Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963) CGC Apparent VF+ 8.5 Off-white pages, Cover Trimmed. Art by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. First appearance of J. Jonah Jameson and the Chameleon. First Fantastic Four cross-over. CGC notes, "Staples Cleaned. (Top edge of cover trimmed)." Overstreet 2003 GD 2.0 value = $842; VG 4.0 value = $1,684; FN 6.0 value = $2,526; VF 8.0 value = $9,350. Realized $3,450.00

Showcase #4 Flash (DC, 1956) CGC Apparent VF- 7.5 Moderate (A) Cream to off-white pages. Origin and first appearance of the Silver Age Flash. Carmine Infantino and Joe Kubert art. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: color touch, piece added, tear seals, cleaned, reinforced." Overstreet 2003 GD 2.0 value = $1,188; VG 4.0 value = $2,376; FN 6.0 value = $3,564; VF 8.0 value = $13,000. Realized $2,990.00

Larry Lieber - Original Comic Strip Art for The Amazing Spider-Man Daily, Lot of 100 (King Features Syndicate, 1985-1996). One hundred daily Spider-Man comic strips, written by Stan Lee, and drawn by Larry Lieber and Fred Kida. Cameos by J. Jonah Jameson, Mary Jane Watson, Aunt May, the Man-Monster and Sub-Mariner. In excellent condition, these strips measure approximately 13.25" x 4.25" overall. Some strips are in their penciled version. Realized $2,990.00

New York World's Fair Comics #nn (DC, 1939) CGC VG+ Cream to off-white pages. If this is not a key issue, we don't know what is. Here is the first published appearance of the Sandman. Also an early Superman appearance (he's even blond on the cover). The Ginger Snap story is by Bob Kane. Cover art is by Vincent Sullivan. Overstreet 2003 VG 4.0 value = $4,200. Realized $2,932.50
