Heritage Coin Auction Strikes Gold!

Dallas, Texas: Heritage Numismatic Auctions, Inc (HNAI) has reported that their most recent Platinum Night session, part of the official auction held in conjunction with the Florida United Numismatists (FUN) convention on January 12, realized $30.8 million. Thus far 3,025 bidders have competed for 1,466 lots, 351 successfully. Total sell-through was 87.99%, for 1,290 lots sold. These figures do not include after-auction sales.

"The room was huge, and packed with bidders!" said Greg Rohan, President of HNAI. "Last year's FUN auction was a record-breaker, setting a new high watermark for prices realized at a numismatic auction event. This year, we've broken our own record?in a single session."

The entire auction, which ends Saturday, is expected to realize over $50 million in actual sales, making it by far the highest grossing numismatic auction of all time.

The highlight of the sale was the 1787 Brasher Doubloon which realized $2,990,000, instantly securing its position as one of the most expensive coins ever sold at auction.

"The Brasher Doubloons were part of the Gold Rush collection," continued Rohan, "which sparked strong and enthusiastic interest among collectors. With 60 pieces from that collection sold so far for a staggering $13,810,493.75, these coins averaged, over $200,000 apiece!"

"We still have another $15-20 million worth of coins to go in this auction," added Rohan, "so we're confident that we'll finish up with over $50 million in prices realized. Of course, we've also got a Bullet sale and a World Coin auction in New York City running concurrently with this sale, so it's a great way to welcome in a new year!"
