Heritage Presents Vintage and Movie Poster Sales in March!
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Vintage Movie Posters (HVMP) will present two auctions of vintage posters on March 17 & 18, in Dallas, Texas. The first will feature vintage movie posters, while the second will spotlight vintage advertising, travel, recruitment and other posters.
"It's always very exciting to explore a new area of poster collecting," said Grey Smith, Director of HVMP, "and I'm thrilled to have had the assistance of Rudy Franchi, known to many collectors as the proprietor of the Nostalgia Factory and from his many appearances on PBS' Antique Roadshow, in putting together this exquisite vintage poster auction."
"There's an amazing selection of vintage posters in this collection," continued Smith. "Some of my personal favorites include a striking image of the 1939 World's Fair, a War Savings Stamp poster from the First World War, a beautiful copy of what is arguably the most famous poster in American history, James Montgomery Flagg's memorable "I Want You" image of Uncle Sam, and an eye-catching Art Deco image promoting German spas to attendees of the 1936 Olympic Games. This is a wonderful new area for all of our movie poster customers to explore and enjoy. There's literally something here for everyone."
"Speaking of movie posters," Smith added, "this is, without a doubt, the largest and the best movie poster auction we've ever held, and I'm very excited about it. There are a number of highlights in this sale, but the real stand-out has to be the Bride of Frankenstein half-sheet, a cornerstone piece from the collection of rock legend Johnny Ramone, and one of only five copies known to exist. We sold the title card to this film in our last auction for a record-breaking $46,000, so there's no telling what this incredibly rare and desirable piece will bring."
Other highlights of the upcoming movie poster sale include:
- A half-sheet from James Whale's 1931 production of Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff.
- A three-sheet for the Humphrey Bogart classic, The Maltese Falcon, as well as producer Henry Blanke's copy of the shooting script.
- A one-sheet for Citizen Kane, considered by many to be the greatest movie ever made.
- An extremely rare full-color stock one-sheet for the serial, The Green Hornet Strikes Again.
- A one-sheet for The Telegraph Trail, an early film starring Western legend John Wayne.
- Several screen-used props from the horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, including Leatherface's "Old Lady" mask, and the infamous "Arm Lamp".
