Heritage to Auction Fabulous Collection of Overdates and Doubled Dies in Long Beach

Dallas, Texas: Heritage Numismatic Auction, Inc. will offer the Patrick Mullen Collection of Overdates & Doubled Dies as part of its upcoming February 2001 Long Beach Signature Sale. The sale is scheduled for February 22-23, and will be the official auction of the Long Beach Coin Expo.

According to Jim Stoutjesdyk, the Heritage Senior Numismatist who has been working on the Mullen consignment, "This is one of the most unique collections that I have encountered. It contains some of the more spectacular 20th century rarities in U.S. numismatics, and the consignor did not shy away from quality. The 1918/7-D Buffalo nickel in MS 64 is all but unsurpassable for this overdate variety, and the 1955 Doubled Die cent is a breathtaking MS 65 Red. Both coins are certified by PCGS."

Other highlights from the Mullen Collection include: 1943 copper Lincoln cent AU 50 ANACS; 1969-S Doubled Die Obverse Lincoln Cent MS 61 Brown NGC, FS-028; 1916 Doubled Die Obverse Buffalo nickel AU 50 NGC, FS-016; and a 1942/1-D Mercury dime MS 65 Full Bands PCGS.

"The arrival of the Mullen Collection at our world headquarters in Dallas attracted much attention from our staff numismatists," noted Bob Korver, Heritage's Director of Auctions. "This collection is a perfect complement to the other major consignments that we have received for our February 2001 Long Beach Sale: the collections of David and Jeannie Cheung, Tyler Dillon of Wellesley, Helyn Van Huffel, and Stuart C. Gibbons. The sale is growing daily, and I am confident that the numerous fresh rarities already on hand will attract bidders to Long Beach in record numbers this February."

The consignment deadline for the February 2001 Long Beach Signature Sale is January 15. Highlights from the Mullen Collection will soon be available by visiting the Heritage website at HeritageCoins.com.
