Dynamic Comics #1 Mile High pedigree (Chesler, 1941) CGC NM- 9.2 White pages.
Major Victory strikes a blow for freedom in front of the Capitol Building on this Charles Sultan cover. Inside the good Major's origin is told. The title's namesake, Dynamic Man, begins his run in this white-paged Edgar Church book as well. Appearances by Hale the Magician and the Black Cobra (his only appearance) complete the issue's line-up. Sultan donates interior art. This is far and away the highest CGC-graded copy to date. Overstreet 2006 NM- 9.2 value = $2,500. CGC census 7/06: 1 in 9.2, none higher.

This was only the third comic book series for Harry "A" Chesler, and while this first issue isn't called "rare" by the price guides, this is the first copy we've seen here at Heritage and one of only two unrestored copies to be certified by CGC to date. The cover hero is the Sky Chief; the issue's other characters include Mr. E and Hale the Magician. Overstreet 2006 NM- 9.2 value = $1,800. CGC census 3/06: 1 in 9.2, none higher.

Superheroes abound in this issue, despite the funny cover by Charles Sultan. The book has the first appearances of Rocketman and Rocketgirl as well as the Master Key, all of whom would be regulars in the Chesler stable, and saw the return of Dan Hastings who had been appearing in Chesler books from the get-go. This is the only copy graded above 7.0 by CGC to date. Overstreet 2006 VF 8.0 value = $831; VF/NM 9.0 value = $1,316. CGC census 8/06: 1 in 8.5, none higher.

In 1941, Harry Chesler tried his luck at the superhero genre by releasing a new line of comics ("They're new! They're different!"), featuring the likes of Major Victory and Yankee Doodle Jones. His titles would later evolve into a bizarre array of psychedelic covers, now highly sought after by collectors. This is an attractive mid-grade copy, with only minor imperfections. Yankee Doodle Jones strikes a dynamic pose on this premiere issue from the collector-fave publisher Harry A. Chesler. Chesler books seem always to be tough to nab in nice grades, and CGC has certified just two unrestored copies of this issue to date, coincidentally both in this grade. The origins of Enchanted Dagger, Yankee Doodle Jones, Echo, Firebrand, and Scarlet Sentry are featured. Overstreet 2003 FN 6.0 value = $495; VF 8.0 value = $1,031.

"World's Greatest Comics" is pretty strong for publisher Harry Chesler to boast when the air, land, and sea were starting to fill up with other publishers' more well-known superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Human Torch, and others, but there's absolutely no argument with Harry's back cover assertion about his line being "different." Chesler books are indeed prized for their quirky qualities. This issue is not common in any grade, and, at Very Good/Fine, this copy is CGC's highest-graded and an exceptional-looking book for the grade. Just so readers wouldn't take the "Yankee" in this title too seriously, publisher Harry "A" Chesler introduced Johnny Rebel in this issue, along with Yankee Boy. Charles Sultan's fife-and-drums cover is a stirring slice of patriotism. Like most Chesler books, this issue can be hard to find. This is the only copy to be certified by CGC to date.
