Thick mint frost covers the devices and provides a strong contrast against the depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields. Deep cherry-red color characterizes this splendid coin--the finest certified by either of the major services.

1920-D 10C MS67 Full Bands PCGS.
While more than 19 million coins were struck of the 1920-D, this issue was very heavily worn and even high grade circulated examples are elusive (and quite pricey). This is a well produced coin that shows good peripheral details and coruscating mint luster. Most of each side has a pale overlay of lilac patina with deeper golden-brown toning around the margins and in the center of the reverse. Tied for finest known with four other coins.

1916-D 10C MS64 Full Bands PCGS.
The 1916-D Dime is probably the most famous issue of the denomination, better known than the unique 1873-CC No Arrows Dime, the extremely rare 1894-S Dime, and the much hyped "Little Orphan Annie" 1844 Dime. While Mercury Dime specialists are also well aware of the scarcity of the 1919-D or 1926-S in high Mint State grades, it is the appearance of the low mintage 1916-D that commands the attention of the collector. The present lustrous near-Gem has beautiful light golden-brown peripheral toning, and the preservation is exemplary despite a couple of wispy marks near the eye and forehead. The strike is not quite 100% full in the centers, but the eye appeal is formidable, and it will take any Mercury Dime collection to the next level of importance.
From The Clearfield Collection.

1995-W $1 Silver Eagle PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS.
The 1995-W Silver Eagle was only issued in 10th anniversary bullion program proof sets, struck at the West Point Mint, containing an example of the Silver Eagle as well as each of the four Gold Eagle denominations. Only 30,125 sets were produced, making the 1995-W Silver Eagle the key date in that proof series. This piece is brilliant and flawless in its preservation, but also in its strike quality. Stark white-and-black contrast characterizes each side, and eye appeal is outstanding. A stunning Registry coin.

1995-W $1 Silver Eagle PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS.
A beautifully flawless example of this proof Silver Eagle key, showing dramatic white-on-black contrast and fully struck, frosty motifs. The liquidlike mirrors are devoid of flaws. The 1995-W Silver Eagle was only issued in 10th anniversary bullion program proof sets, which were struck at the West Point Mint. Just 30,125 sets were issued, establishing this coin as the rarest and lowest mintage Silver Eagle in the series. Top-grade certified examples continue to demand strong premiums at auction.

1888 3CN PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS.
A complement to the 1889 also offered in the present auction, even if not quite so extraordinary well preserved. Many specimens of this issue, like the 1889, were melted after the three cent nickel series was abolished in 1890. The present example exhibits profoundly deep, brilliantly reflective mirrors. The devices drip with heavy frost against this pristine background. Completely untoned, this coin presents no spots, ticks, or other distractions to the naked eye. Even under magnification, only the most trivial minutiae are found, including a tiny luster break on the chin, a single dark fleck near the rim, and a couple of ticks on the eyebrow. On the reverse a tiny indentation near the leftmost I appears to be a planchet flaw. Despite these trivia, this coin is incredibly appealing and virtually unimprovable. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (11/05).

1916-D MS 64 Full Bands PCGS.
Ex: Wm. Dominick. For more than half a century, the 1916-D dime has been regarded as
the
key issue in the Mercury dime series. Only 264,000 pieces were struck before Mint Director F.J.H. von Engelken halted production on November 24 to refocus the Mint's efforts to the manufacture of quarters. The surfaces on this piece are very clean and perhaps suggestive of an even higher grade. The satin-like luster has taken on an even rose tinted patina that is quite appealing.

1916-D 10C MS64 Full Bands PCGS.
The 1916-D Dim is the key issue in the Mercury Dime series, and is quite scarce in the better grades of Mint State. A near-Gem example such as this piece represents excellent value for the collector of Uncirculated coins. The surfaces display soft, frosted mint luster and just a bit of light golden toning is present on each side. Close examination reveals a few tiny marks on Liberty's cheek that keep the coin from grading even higher.

1867 3CN PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS.
The 1867 is a low mintage proof from the early years of issuance. Only 625 proofs are believed to have been struck. Very few have survived today in such a superior condition as this piece, and just a handful are known with Deep Cameo contrast. PCGS and NGC have both certified only four Deep (or Ultra) Mirror coins. As such, this piece is tied with only two other PCGS coins. This is a deeply reflective coin that exhibits strong field-to-device contrast on each side. Untoned, the surfaces show only a couple of tiny lint marks on the reverse, and a very light pinscratch across the highpoint of Liberty's cheek (which is indiscernible to the unaided eye).

1925 10C MS67 Full Bands PCGS.
A lovely type coin from the 1920s and rarely ever seen in this condition. Only one other piece has been so graded by PCGS, which should make this coin of great interest to Registry Set collectors. Streaks of golden and rose toning with occasional dabs of emerald-green are seen on both the obverse and reverse of this highly lustrous coin.

1883 5C With Cents PR67 Deep Cameo PCGS.
A total population of three 1883 With Cents proofs at the PR67 Deep Cameo level helps explain the infrequent appearance of Deep or Ultra Cameos throughout the grading scale in Heritage's archive. The
Guide Book
mintage figure is widely disputed for With Cents proofs (it may be more than twice the actual quantity produced). This is a splendid Superb Gem example, richly contrasted sharply defined. A thin veil of gold toning visits the reverse, while the obverse is brilliant. PCGS Population: (2/0). NGC Census: (1/0). PR67.

Ex: Wm. Dominick. Seldom seen with complete band definition and in gem condition, this is a lovely coin whose only flaw lies in the usually seen flatness on the zero in the date nearest the rim (there not being enough metal to fill the rim, the space between, and the digit). Blazing mint luster races over each side undisturbed by abrasions, and accented by attractive, light golden patina. Population: 10 in 65, only 4 finer (10/98).

The 1927-D is not accorded the same level of respect as the 1925-D, but in fully struck Gem condition it is every bit as challenging.
