Solid for the grade and with no problems save for even circulation. We originally sold this note in May 1993 to our consignor. Today as then, St. Louis is still the most difficult district from which to acquire a $20 FRBN. A little over 20 serial numbers have been documented and three of those are in Federal Reserve Bank collections. In fact we have sold only one other example of this Friedberg number in the last 14 years.

A difficult note to grade, as it is very substantially Extremely Fine, although with a considerable amount of damage at the top and left edges. A number of small pieces are missing, and a tiny patch, apparently from another note, has been put in at the center of the left edge. The fairest net grade would probably be
Fine.
The grade is less important on this note than on most other Twenty Dollar FRBN's, as it is quite a scarce piece. Only five districts issued this type, and this Friedberg 825 is the only signature combination from the St. Louis District; less than two dozen examples are recorded in all grades combined.

This bright St. Louis Star has bold inks and excellent margins, and is much nicer than the Cookson example that we sold in January. High grade FRBN stars are found with much infrequency, and this high grade circulated note is ideal for a specialized collection.
