Showcase #4 The Flash - Mohawk Valley pedigree (DC, 1956) CGC VF+ 8.5 Cream to off-white pages.
This is the comic that revitalized comics, ushering in the era we know and cherish as the Silver Age!! It's the first appearance of the Silver Age Flash, Barry Allen. The book came out at a time when the comic book industry was at a low point and there seemed to be next to no demand for existing superheroes, never mind new ones. But DC took the risk in this series, which featured new tryout features every couple of issues. But rather than re-presenting the established Golden Age character Jay Garrick, metal helmet and all, this character had a new identity, costume, and origin. The experiment was a success, and Barry got his own title after a few more

appearances. The story, written by Bob Kanigher and drawn by Carmine Infantino and Joe Kubert, also featured the first appearance of Barry's girlfriend Iris West. It trails only

Showcase #4 The Flash (DC, 1956) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white pages.
This is the first comic of the Silver Age according to many, and one of the most significant comic books ever published, no matter whom you ask! It's the first appearance of the Silver Age Flash, Barry Allen, published in the mid-1950s when the comic book industry was at a low point and there seemed to be next to no demand for existing superheroes, never mind new ones. But DC decided to bring one Golden Age hero back in revamped form for a tryout issue, with a new identity, costume, and origin. The experiment was a success, and Barry got his own title after a couple more

appearances. The story, written by Bob Kanigher and drawn by Carmine Infantino and Joe Kubert, also featured the first appearance of Barry's girlfriend Iris West. It's the second most-valuable Silver Age comic according to Overstreet, and only a handful of copies have been graded higher, making this copy an attractive investment indeed. Overstreet 2005 VF 8.0 value = $13,200. CGC census 5/05: 6 in 8.0, 4 higher.

Red Dust (MGM, 1932)
This pre-code love story was a racy hit for MGM and helped elevate Jean Harlow to star status as the floozy girlfriend of an Indochina rubber plantation worker, Clark Gable. This sheet is one of only a few known copies to surface from this film. The other style recently sold in auction for well over $25,000. Very Fine.

Showcase #4 The Flash (DC, 1956) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white pages.
This is simply one of the most significant comic books ever. In the mid-1950s, the comic industry was struggling, and though superheroes had gone out of fashion, DC decided to bring one hero back for a tryout issue. The new Flash, Barry Allen, made his first appearance here, the comic was a hit, and after a couple more

appearances, the Flash received his own title.
Showcase
#4 is generally considered to be the start of the Silver Age. The story, written by Bob Kanigher and drawn by Carmine Infantino and Joe Kubert, also featured the first appearance of Barry's girlfriend Iris West, and of course detailed the origin of the new Flash's powers. It's a key book by any standard. Overstreet 2004 VF 8.0 value = $13,200. CGC census 12/04: 6 in 8.0, 4 higher.
From the Northern Lights Collection.

Showcase #9 (DC, 1957) CGC NM- 9.2 Off-white pages.
This early issue of the title was the first of two Lois Lane tryout issues. And, even though the Flash and the Challengers of the Unknown had earlier tryouts (by 10 months and 8 months respectively) in this title, Superman's girlfriend got her own title earlier, just eight months after this issue.
The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books
doesn't indicate this book to be uncommon or even "less than average" insofar as numbers still in existence are concerned, but collectors will verify how difficult this issue is to find in high-grade. CGC has awarded a grade higher than "8.0" to only two copies, and our offering has earned the higher grade. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $9,000.

Gil Kane and Frank Giacoia - Original Cover Art for Amazing Spider-Man #131 (Marvel, 1974).
Back in the early seventies, just when it seemed like Spidey's life couldn't get worse, it did. Still reeling from the death of his girlfriend Gwen Stacy a year earlier, Spider-Man has to suffer the indignity of his Aunt May's unholy marriage to his arch nemesis, Doc Ock. This exciting and dramatic cover represents a classic example of the problem-ridden hero that has made Spider-Man so enduringly popular. Gil Kane covers are highly sought after and Spider-Man examples rarely come up for auction. Kane, along with Ditko and Romita, is considered to be a definitive Spider-Man artist. The cover is in good condition with some white-out on Spider-Man's leg and around his figure, used mostly for effect. Aunt May is a stat and her facial expression has been slightly re-worked. The stat conceals a fully rendered Aunt May with a slightly different facial expression. A stat is also missing from the prayer book in the lower right corner. The image area measures 10" x 15", pen and ink on board.

The Amazing Spider-Man #8 (Marvel, 1964) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white to white pages.
We give you Flash Thompson: football star, adored by the girls, Big Man On Campus. Didn'tcha
hate
him? The moment fans had waited eight issues for came in #8, as Peter Parker actually had a boxing match with the big bully (unfortunately, a robot attack interrupted matters). The art on the lead story is by Steve Ditko, who also drew the cover. The backup feature guest-stars the Fantastic Four, and offers an artistic team we really love: Ditko inking Jack Kirby! Surprisingly, Spidey shows amorous inclinations in the tale -- he tries to hit on the Human Torch's girlfriend Dorrie, and even makes a web-valentine for the Invisible Girl (who was still single at the time, we hasten to add). Overstreet 2005 NM- 9.2 value = $1,900. CGC census 9/05: 7 in 9.6, 2 higher.

Detective Comics #31 (DC, 1939) CGC VG/FN 5.0 Cream to off-white pages.
The term "classic cover" gets bandied about quite a bit, but nobody disputes that designation for this all-time great image. It's a cover which has been paid homage to by many subsequent Bat-artists over the years, but none have matched the ominous mood set here by Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson. The intense interest in this cover is also the primary reason that this book is listed among the top 20 most valuable comic books by Overstreet. But don't discount the story, which has a few major firsts: the Batplane appears for the first time, as does the Batarang. It also features Bruce Wayne's first girlfriend (that we
know
about, he is a handsome millionaire after all), one Julie Madison. As this was a very early Batman appearance, the Bat-story is backed up by a plethora of other crimefighting features, the most notable of which is Slam Bradley by Superman's creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Only three copies of this issue have been certified with higher grades by CGC to date. Overstreet 2004 VG 4.0 value = $5,636; FN 6.0 value = $8,445.

Frank Frazetta - Original Comic Strip Art for Johnny Comet dated 2-25-52 (McNaught Syndicate, 1952).
On Monday, January 28, 1952, a new star exploded in the comic strip firmament.
Johnny Comet
, written by Peter DePaolo, winner of the 1925 Indy 500 (although some have attributed the scripting to Earl Baldwin), and drawn by the up-and-coming Frank Frazetta, was a high-octane adventure strip about a young race car driver (looking suspiciously like Frank himself) and a plethora of beautiful women (already a Frazetta trademark). This particular strip, from early in the run, introduces the lovely Jean Fargo, Johnny's glamorous girlfriend, and exhibits the lush inking and powerful figures that typify the early days of the feature. Running a scant 18 months,
Johnny Comet
strips are prized by collectors as examples of the nascent Frazetta at his finest. Soon after the end of this strip, Frazetta would go on to work for Al Capp on
L'il Abner
, a period of which Frank has less than fond memories. Attractively matted, the art has an image area of approximately 21.5" X 6.25" and is in excellent condition.

Gun Crazy (United Artists, 1949).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). Joseph H. Lewis directed this "Bonnie and Clyde" style
film noir
about a disillusioned WWII vet (John Dall) and his carnival sharpshooter girlfriend (Peggy Cummins) who have a perverse fixation with guns. The two go on a psychotic shooting spree, as they travel on a cross-country string of daring robberies, where they eventually end up dying in a volley of police bullets. There is light fold line wear with a touch more at the fold line intersections, tears and slight paper loss in the corners. This
film noir
poster that features gun totting Peggy Cummings, as well as the fascinating film, continues to intrigue and thus drive demand from collectors. Very Fine- on Linen.

The Amazing Spider-Man #8 (Marvel, 1964) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages.
Every kid who ever tangled with a school bully got a thrill upon seeing this issue, which promised some much-needed comeuppance for Flash Thompson. And indeed, Peter Parker does get a chance to box with the B.M.O.C. in this issue, unfortunately, a robot attack causes the bout to be called off. The art on the lead story is by Steve Ditko, who also drew the cover. Meanwhile, the backup feature guest-stars the Fantastic Four, and offers an artistic team we really love: Ditko inking Jack Kirby! Spider-Man is quite the would-be Casanova in this early story -- he puts the ol' moves on the Human Torch's girlfriend Dorrie, and even makes a web-valentine for the Invisible Girl (who was still single at the time, we hasten to add). Beatles - Original Photo Album (1960s).
This amazing collection of 224 photos is a magical history tour through time for the true Beatles fan. It starts off with fantastic shots from the 1964 Forest Hills concert, to photos of the lads rehearsing for the Ed Sullivan Show in Florida. There's plenty of candid shots throughout the book, some from fan clubs, and some private photos, even shots from interviews. The collection carries on with photos from Shea Stadium in '64 and '65, as well as a shot of the Wells Fargo armored truck that transported the Fab Four from the hotel to the concert. The photos move on to the 1966 Shea, Chicago, and Boston concerts, plus scenes from the videos of "Rain" and "Paperback Writer." More private photos, like shots of Jane Asher (Paul's longtime 1960s girlfriend), Peter and Gordon, even John's Rolls Royce follow. Also, some great fan club 8" x 10" shots are sprinkled through the album, including scenes from the "Strawberry Fields Forever" video shoot. Finally, we find private snapshots of Paul at his home, with new wife Linda and stepdaughter Heather. This is truly a treasure trove of Beatle memories! There are 85-3.5" x 3.5" pictures, 5-4"x4", 94-3.5" x 5", 1-6"x8", 35-8"x10", and 1-11"x14" photos, for a total of 224.

Lyndon B. Johnson 1942 Photograph Inscribed and Signed
"
For Tessie: / With Memory and / Thanks for / Melbourne hospitality-- / Lyndon B. Johnson / June 17, 1942.
" B&W, 7.25" x 9.25". Tessie Smallpage worked as a singer and hostess at American Servicemen's Clubs in Melbourne, Australia during World War II. In the White House in October 1966, President Johnson showed "home movies" he had taken when he visited Melbourne as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy in 1942. When reporters asked him the identity of the girl in the movie, Johnson tried to keep it a secret, but his wife, Lady Bird Johnson, laughed and said she thought the girl was "one of the sweet young ladies Lady Mabel Brookes introduced him to." When Johnson visited Melbourne later in October, Tessie admitted she "dreamt of him. I suppose his trip this week back to Melbourne was on my mind. We were very good friends. He was a very charming man. I remember him being as handsome as a film star. I felt I knew him very well. Lady Brookes would invite me to her parties for American officers. I met many men, but I'll always remember Lyndon with the most fond memories." Tack holes at upper corners. Creased at corners and edges, not touching signature or writing. Accompanied by an original clipping from the October 18, 1966 Australian Newspaper
The Sun
with the headline: "JOHNSON'S SECRET/AN AUSSIE GIRLFRIEND," reproducing the signed photograph offered here and a 7" x 11" photograph of Tessie Smallpage on the front page. Fragile condition, yellowed, torn with tape repairs. Two items.
Accompanied by COA from PSA/DNA.
