John Berkey - "Orca the Killer Whale" Poster Painting Original Art (circa 1977)
Bo Derek made her feature film debut in "Orca the Killer Whale." In the film, Richard Harris stars as a fisherman who kills a male orca's pregnant mate. This brings the whale's retribution upon a small coastal village and sets the stage for a final showdown between man and beast. Although perhaps best known for his science fiction images of orbiting spacecraft, John Berkey did a spectacular job of capturing the primal fury of Orca's attack. This painting has an image area of 31.5" x 21.5", and the art is in Excellent condition. The piece has been professionally framed and the bronze finish of its frame complements the colors in the painting handsomely.

Frank Frazetta - Original Illustration of Male Nude (1977).
Frank Frazetta is an artistic phenomenon who has created a cult following for his fantasy paintings. His ingredients include a mixture of sex, violence, melodramatic action, exaggerated anatomy and exotic, impossible settings and he makes it all work. Frazetta's men are believable in their musculature, stance and prowess, and are harder than a rock. Pure primal energy pours out of this brute. This pen and ink drawing measures 5" x 7.5" and is attractively matted in a 13.75" x 16" matte. Signed by Frank Frazetta.

Trina Robbins - Wet Satin #1 Cover Original Art (Kitchen Sink, 1976).
Women's erotic fantasies are explored in this Underground classic. Trina Robbins (who also edited the book) produced this amusing cover in which a banana-eating babe encounters the primal form of Stanley Kowalksi, aka Marlon Brando. A wonderful piece, slickly rendered. The artwork measures 12" x 12" and is in Excellent condition; it has been professionally matted and includes a VG copy of the actual printed comic.

Jeff Jones - Original Tarzan Oil Painting (2001).
Jeffrey Jones burst forth onto the comics and illustration scene in the late 1960s, a glorious renaissance that also blessed the field with the likes of Berni Wrightson, Mike Kaluta and Barry Windsor-Smith. Unlike his contemporaries, Jones shied away from comic book work, and concentrated primarily on illustration and fine art. Held by many today to be the successor to Arthur Rackham and N.C. Wyeth, Jones' work is prized world-wide by collectors who are moved by his moody, evocative work. Offered here is a magnificent piece celebrating Tarzan, the Lord of the Jungle in a breathtaking 5' x 6' oil on canvas. In this wonderfully subtle piece, Tarzan lolls gracefully by a tree as a giant leopard strides past him. The leopard, solid in the hindquarters, seems to fade and grow indistinct the farther he moves from the Jungle Lord. Is the leopard real, or a totem animal, existing half in the real world and half in the spirit world? Either way, the piece exudes a raw and primal power that is hard to deny. A golden opportunity for the discerning fan of fine art, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and not one to be missed.

Jim Lee - Original Cover Art for What If? #13 (Marvel, 1990).
What if Professor X of the X-Men had become... the Juggernaut? Well, that's exactly what Jim Lee was asked and this cover is what he came up with. Lee's masterful pen and ink skills are brought to full force to give us a glimpse of an alternative direction the world could have taken if that possibility had come to fruition. It is genuinely rare to find
X-Men
art from Jim Lee where he alone pencils and inks the artwork; most of his
X-Men
art has an inker or finisher. The art measures an overall 11" x 17" and has a 10" x 15" image area, and is double-signed, both when originally created, and then at a later convention appearance. Clean, and well kept, this work sits on a sheet of brilliant white bristol board with some minor retouching in white out. Includes all the original logo, indicia and type paste-ups. Lee's unyielding ability to translate primal energy to paper was never better realized than in this stupendous delineation. Signed by Jim Lee at the bottom.

Signed by Frank Frazetta at the right.

John Romita Sr. and Ernie Chan - Creatures on the Loose #24 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1973).
In the pages of
Creatures on the Loose
, Marvel published the adventures of Lin Carter's adventurer, mercenary, and thief, who eventually became king -- Thongor, Warrior of Lost Lemuria. In a cover illustration bristling with primal energy, the great John Romita Sr. tackles a savage panorama of Thongor vs. a bloodthirsty flying reptile -- it's sword and sorcery as only magnificent Marvel can present it! Included here are two pieces -- Romita's original hand-drawn cover, which was inked by Ernie Chan, and a photocopy of that art which has been altered with subtle changes in the area of the serpent's head (the final printed version is a variation of this variation). Both pieces have image areas of 10" x 15", include the original logo paste-ups, and are in Excellent condition.

Frank Frazetta - Original Sketch, "Conflict" (undated).
From Frank Frazetta's sketchbook comes this untamed exhibition of brute force and sensuality, inked with an urgent pen and ink line that keeps the primal force intact. A rough primitive man stands over his female prey, and a lovely maiden attacks her unwelcome suitor in this 8" x 10" sketch page. The work is in wonderful condition, with some slight aging apparent. Signed by Frank Frazetta.

Hannes Bok - "The White Powers" Preliminary Drawing and Set of 5 Lithographs Original Art (1945).
Hannes Bok penciled a detailed, same-sized drawing for each of his four "Powers" lithographs. This lot includes the original graphite drawing done for "The White Powers," as well as a complete set of the four "Powers" prints. The lithographs were titled the "White Powers," "The Black Powers," which has the image printed on both sides of the paper, "The Grey Powers," and "The Primal Powers." As a bonus, Bok gave a lucky collector a unique double-overprinted lithograph and wrote this inscription at the lower right, "Here's a "bonus" -- rare accident! 'Goddess of Chance' really took over!" Each print was inscribed "for Mark Walsted," and each was signed, and dated 1945, by Hannes Bok. On "The Prime Powers" lithograph, Bok added the inscription, "Can you discern invisible 'Goddess of Chance'?", and on "The Grey Powers," he wrote, "Note -- invisible 'Lord of Humor' is in dead center!". The image area of the drawing and each lithograph measures 10" x 14," and the works are each in Excellent condition. Don't miss out on this superb collection of Fantasy art! (Total: 6 Items)
