The Robinson Brown Collection included an example of this die state graded just EF45, and considered third finest of 16 examples known with this cud. 1846 1C Small Date. N-8, R.1. MS64 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC.
Grellman state a. A plentiful variety, and an ideal candidate for the date or type collector. Apparently the scarcer of two die states recorded for this variety. A similarly graded example in the Brown Collection, lot 274, was recorded as second finest of the early die state. Splendid olive-brown, slightly deeper on the reverse, with hints of pale orange mint color around the devices on both sides.
Ex: George Ramont (7/23/1981).
