(PCGS# 86666)
Auction 1201
| Lot: 5276 | Jan 12, 2014
Sold For:
$11,162.50
1953-S 50C MS64 Full Bell Lines PCGS.
The 1953-S is a notorious strike rarity within the Franklin Half series. Uncirculated pieces abound, but in a situation similar to Full Bands on the 1945 Mercury Dime, only a miniscule percentage of these pieces meet the PCGS requirements for Full Bell Lines. Blazing mint luster, clean surfaces, and medium apricot-gold toning combine for excellent eye appeal.
From the T & T Martin Registry Set of Franklin Halves.
(PCGS# 86666)
Auction 394
| Lot: 4207 | Jan 7, 2006
Sold For:
$10,350.00
1953-S 50C MS64 Full Bell Lines PCGS.
One of the greatest strike rarities in the series, the 1953-S is readily available as a Gem
without
Full Bell Lines. But in a situation that is similar to the famous 1945 Dime, the 1953-S is very rare in any grade with Full Bell Lines. This brilliant near-Gem has achieved such a distinction. While the strike is not razor-sharp, the imposing luster and immaculate surfaces more than compensate, and contribute to an impressive eye appeal. Population: 12 in 64, 20 finer (6/05).
(PCGS# 86666)
Auction 382
| Lot: 6481 | Jul 30, 2005
Sold For:
$10,350.00
1953-S 50C MS64 Full Bell Lines PCGS.
The fields have wisps of apricot patina, while the frosty devices are fully brilliant. The intense luster and beautifully preserved fields make an additional contribution to the eye appeal. The 1953-S is among the most troublesome strike rarities in the Franklin Half series, and needle-sharp examples simply do not exist. The present near-Gem, however, has a better strike than most, and the all-important bell lines are generally bold throughout. Population: 13 in 64, 19 finer (10/02).
From the Chesapeake Collection.
(PCGS# 86666)
Auction 308
| Lot: 7648 | Jan 11, 2003
Sold For:
$4,715.00
1953-S 50C MS64 Full Bell Lines PCGS.
Among the key issues in this series with Full Bell Lines, the 1953-S is a particularly noteworthy coin at the present grade level. This lot offers an uncommonly sharply impressed example with fully frosted features and the lightest overlay of golden iridescence. One or two wispy obverse abrasions are all that separate this attractive example from a full Gem grade.
(PCGS# 86666)
Auction 271
| Lot: 7079 | Oct 6, 2001
Sold For:
$3,450.00
1953-S 50C MS64 Full Bell Lines PCGS.
A pleasing near-Gem with attractive original reverse color. The obverse is brilliant, except for a wisp of olive-yellow color. The reverse has speckled russet patina, with peripheral golden-brown toning. The strike is good, and the luster is especially intense across the obverse.
