The reverse wreath is made up of clusters of five leaves which is not exactly the same reverse that was adopted in 1859, those having clusters of six leaves. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. Lightly circulated with deep brownish-tan color over both sides.

Auction 201

Sold For:
$550.00
1942 Cent, Unlisted in Judd, Pollock-4040, R.7(?)--Repaired--ANACS.
Certified as genuine, but not graded. One of J.R. Sinnock's experimental cents struck at a time when projected war shortages led to consideration of various types of alternatives, including rubber and plastic. The Pollock-4040 pieces were struck from brass-colored plastic. Like all known specimens, this piece was snapped in half, and looks to have been glued back at a later time (thus the repaired qualifier.)

1942 Cent, Unlisted in Judd, Pollock-4045, R-7(?)--Repaired--ANACS. Certified as genuine, but not graded. Type One. Like the Pollock-4040 just offered, this elusive experimental cent features a Liberty motif that is quite similar to the Columbian Two Centavo piece of the period. The plastic used is listed as reddish-brown, but here is a dark brown color. Also snapped in two, like all seen, and subsequently glued back (hence repaired.)

Auction 267
| Lot: 8422 | Aug 11, 2001
Sold For:
$322.00
1942 Cent, Unlisted in Judd, Pollock-4050, R-7(?)--Repaired--ANACS. Certified as genuine, but not graded. Type Two. Nearly identical to the preceding example and, in fact attributed by ANACS as the same variety, but a variation in the rotation of the dies (300 degrees versus 180 degrees) actually gives this piece a different Pollock number. Also snapped in two, like all seen, and subsequently glued back (hence repaired.)
