1906 $2 1/2 PR63 PCGS.
The color presents two somewhat varied "looks" on the obverse and reverse. While the former is yellow-gold in sheen, the latter side displays pale golden-rose tinting. Fully brought up throughout--as befits a specimen striking--both sides are reflective in finish with a few light contact marks in the fields preventing a higher grade. The proof 1906 was produced to the extent of just 160 pieces, and survivors are roughly equal in rarity to those of the proof 1907 delivery.

1906 $2 1/2 PR63 PCGS.
The 1906 is similar in overall rarity to the final-year 1907, although the former issue may be a little more obtainable at the finer levels of preservation. This reddish-gold coin, a Select quality survivor from a paltry original mintage of 160 coins, is uniformly reflective in finish with a needle sharp strike. There are no outwardly distracting hairlines, but some light haziness is noted in the fields.

| Lot: 6897 | Apr 27, 2002
Sold For:
$3,795.00
1906 PR 63 PCGS.
While not considered a rare proof date, we have handled few examples of this issue over the past five years. Of the 160 pieces originally produced, today perhaps as many as 65 allegedly exist in all grades. This piece is certainly recognizable as a proof by its deeply reflective fields and intricate striking details. A no-contrast proof, there are a few scattered hairlines in the fields which account for the grade.
