Two die marriages were needed to strike the mintage of just under 7,500 coins. This example has the mintmark low and the Cs close together compared to the Wide Mintmark variety. Any Carson City specialist would be delighted to have a coin struck by either die pair. The present example is a bit bright from a light cleaning, but solid VF details and sufficient eye appeal remain to attract even the most particular collector. This is a challenging half eagle in all grades, and the 1873-CC is seldom seen appreciably finer. Mintage 7,416.
