1875-S/CC T$1 --Obverse Damage--NCS. AU Details. FS-012.5. One of the most popular and elusive issues in the Trade dollars series, the S/CC wasn't discovered until 1965. Since that time it has proved to be an absolute as well as a condition rarity with very few of the known examples in the better grades of AU or Mint State. This is a very lightly toned example with good remaining luster. A small planchet void is located just below Liberty's outstretched arm. The insert from NCS states "Obverse Damage," and the description from the 1980 ANA catalog reads, "Slight edge damage on the left obverse rim." Frankly, we don't see what is referred to here. There is nothing we see in the way of damage on the left portion of the obverse, and from looking through the side of the holder all the reeding is present, which would seem to preclude actual damage on the edge. If the planchet void is what is being referred to, we take issue with this disclaimer as the coin left the mint with this flaw.

1875-S/CC T$1 --Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. FS-012.5. Type One Reverse. The more obvious of the two 1875-S/CC varieties, the presence of the C mintmark to the right of the S is irrefutable. Since the Carson City Mint was in full production in 1875, the overmintmark of a CC reverse die at the Philadelphia Mint was probably performed to provide a die quickly for San Francisco, which made the bulk of export-destined Trade Dollars. This sharp slate-gray example is moderately hairlined, but has noticeable glimpses of luster and is otherwise unimpaired. Envelope Included. (PCGS# 7040)

1875-CC T$1 --Obverse Planchet Flaw--NCS. AU Details. Type One Reverse. A lightly toned CC-mint Trade Dollar that has nearly full mint luster. The strike on the eagle's left (facing) leg is indifferent, but the devices are otherwise crisp. A toned planchet flaw behind Liberty's head and a smaller flaw between the 75 in the date affirm the NCS notation, however, it must be emphasized that these flaws were on the planchet prior to the strike and do not reflect the preservation of the coin. Miniscule granularity is also noted along the lower right obverse border. Envelope Included. (PCGS# 7038)
