Gorgeously toned in honey, sea-green, and rose colors. This intricately struck Superb Gem is magnificently preserved. Among the finest known 1900-O Quarters, in terms of both technical quality and eye appeal. The 1900-O is a common date in well circulated grades, but NGC has certified fewer than 60 pieces in Mint State. Population: 2 in 67★ , 1 finer (an MS68 with no star designation) (6/05).

1835 H10C Small Date, Large 5C MS67★ NGC.
V-5, LM-8, R.2. While the LM-8 is a common variety, the earliest die state listed in Logan-McCloskey is an 8.1 with evidence of several minor die cracks. This spectacular coin shows no evidence of any of those cracks. This leads us to wonder if this piece could have been one of the first examples struck of this variety. That is not to say it is a proof or a special striking, just that it was set aside at the beginning of the production run when this variety was minted. Each side exudes bright, sparkling mint luster. The centers are brilliant and surrounded by a ring of deep golden with cobalt-blue at the margins. A bit weakly struck in on Liberty's hair curls and on the left side of the shield, but the peripheral devices are fully detailed. The fields display a bit of semi-reflectivity, undoubtedly from being struck from a fresh set of dies. Population 1 in MS67★ , one finer (1/06).

1853 H10C Arrows MS67★ NGC.
Lavishly toned in sea-green, ruby-red, and lemon colors. A single hair-thin toning streak rises across the shield. A pinpoint-sharp and lustrous example without detectable marks. Clash marks, as made and often found on pieces from this era, appear on the fields. The Arrows type was struck between 1853 and 1855. Unlike the Quarter and Half Dollar, no rays were placed on the reverse for the 1853 Arrows issue. More than 13 million pieces were struck, the largest production of the series, necessary to replace the hoarded old tenor silver coins.

1878 G$1 MS67★ NGC.
The U.S. Mint made a final attempt to circulate the gold dollar in 1873 and 1874. A total of more than 320,000 pieces were struck for those two dates, probably because East coast demand was expected in place of the Federal paper dollar, which then traded near par. After 1874, the gold dollar had only token mintages. For the 1878, just 3,000 pieces were struck. A number were saved, but few compare with present Superb Gem, which has seamless flashy fields and a penetrating strike. The filled final 8 in the date confirms a business origin, per Walter Breen. Struck from rotated dies. Census: 1 in 67★ , 0 finer (4/07).

1882 50C MS67★ NGC.
Only one other piece has been certified as MS67★ and none are finer except the MS68 (see next lot). This is a marvelous Seated half, regardless of the date. The surfaces are prooflike and mostly brilliant with a slight accent of russet toning around the peripheries. Fully struck in all areas and nearly perfect. An exceptional 1882 half.

Splashes of electric-blue and orange-gold color dominate this shimmering and carefully preserved Superb Gem. The stars and dentils are needle-sharp, although the fletchings and Liberty's chest shows moderate incompleteness of strike. Struck from clashed dies. Population: 2 in 67★ , 1 finer as MS68 without a star designation (3/05).

1929-S 5C MS67★ NGC.
Blushes of honey-gold, powder-blue, and orange patina embrace this crisply struck and well preserved branch mint Nickel. The innermost feather is only partially present, the result of a lapped die, and the Indian has faint clashmarks (as made) from IN GOD WE TRUST below the chin. Two 1929-S Nickels have been certified as MS67 by NGC with none finer (as of 11/03). However, only the present Superb Gem has additionally received a star designation from that service, which denotes superior eye appeal. Thus, this is the single highest NGC-graded 1929-S Nickel.
