1963 1C PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS.
Thick mint frost covers the devices and provides a strong contrast against the depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields. Deep cherry-red color characterizes this splendid coin--the finest certified by either of the major services.
From the collection of William Bland.

1882 $1 PR 67 Deep Cameo NGC.
When trying to describe the contrast on this coin, words simply fail us. This coin just doesn't look like a product of the Mint in the 1880s. The 1980s perhaps, but we simply aren't accustomed to seeing 19th century proofs with this level of field-to-devices contrast. The only proof Morgan we can recall that approaches this piece in terms of contrast and technical perfection is an 1894 proof that Roger Bryan had in 1982-83. Absolutely unimprovable quality.

1916 25C MS64 Full Head PCGS.
Struck in the last few days of 1916, the 52,000 quarters that were produced of the new Standing Liberty design entered circulation with little notice by the public at large. Most likely it was precisely because of the minuscule mintage that few people paid attention. The 1917 issues were more widely recognized and hoarded as they were seen by a wider group of collectors and non-collectors who set them aside as mementoes. The 1916 has always enjoyed a high degree of respect and desirability by all collectors of 20th century coinage. Not all pieces were fully struck, the design being slightly different from the 1917 issues, which are generally well brought up. This is a particularly well struck example that has lovely, satin-like mint luster with just a bit of light golden toning over each side that turns decidedly darker around the lower margin of the reverse. Population: 96 in 64, 72 finer (3/05).

1995-W $1 Silver Eagle PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS.
The 1995-W Silver Eagle was only issued in 10th anniversary bullion program proof sets, struck at the West Point Mint, containing an example of the Silver Eagle as well as each of the four Gold Eagle denominations. Only 30,125 sets were produced, making the 1995-W Silver Eagle the key date in that proof series. This piece is brilliant and flawless in its preservation, but also in its strike quality. Stark white-and-black contrast characterizes each side, and eye appeal is outstanding. A stunning Registry coin.

1917 25C Type Two MS67 Full Head PCGS.
This is a simply beautiful coin with flowing mint frost over virtually blemish-free surfaces. There is some light toning on either side, this being somewhat mottled on the reverse, and the devices are fully brought up in most areas. We note the toning ranges from rather intense peripheral rainbow hues on the obverse, to splashes of crimson-gold on the reverse. While not a rare date in an absolute sense, the 1917 Type Two is a conditionally challenging coin in grades above the MS65 Full Head level of preservation. NGC and PCGS combined report just 13 coins in MS67 Full Head, and there are none finer (9/05).

1995-W $1 Silver Eagle PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS.
A beautifully flawless example of this proof Silver Eagle key, showing dramatic white-on-black contrast and fully struck, frosty motifs. The liquidlike mirrors are devoid of flaws. The 1995-W Silver Eagle was only issued in 10th anniversary bullion program proof sets, which were struck at the West Point Mint. Just 30,125 sets were issued, establishing this coin as the rarest and lowest mintage Silver Eagle in the series. Top-grade certified examples continue to demand strong premiums at auction.

1888 3CN PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS.
A complement to the 1889 also offered in the present auction, even if not quite so extraordinary well preserved. Many specimens of this issue, like the 1889, were melted after the three cent nickel series was abolished in 1890. The present example exhibits profoundly deep, brilliantly reflective mirrors. The devices drip with heavy frost against this pristine background. Completely untoned, this coin presents no spots, ticks, or other distractions to the naked eye. Even under magnification, only the most trivial minutiae are found, including a tiny luster break on the chin, a single dark fleck near the rim, and a couple of ticks on the eyebrow. On the reverse a tiny indentation near the leftmost I appears to be a planchet flaw. Despite these trivia, this coin is incredibly appealing and virtually unimprovable. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (11/05).
From The David R. Poole Registry Collection of Proof Three Cent Nickels.
