Blake & Co. Owyhee, Idaho Territory. $4.56 Mixed Metal Ingot.
This item was previously featured as lot 222 in the Henry H. Clifford Collection (Bowers & Ruddy, 3/82), where it was described in part as follows: "Rectangular ingot, No. 1712, issued by Blake & Co., Assayers, Owyhee, Idaho Territory, probably circa 1867-1870. The stamped weight is 2.82 ozs., the fineness of the gold is .018, and the fineness of silver is .967. the respective values of the gold and silver content are stamped on the bottom of the front: gold $1.04 and silver $3.52.
"The back of the bar bears the inscription in three lines: WILLIE LISTER / ALBANY / OREGON. This piece is in Very Fine condition and exhibits light wear. Perhaps it was carried as a pocket piece. (A Doctor William Lister is listed as a physician in Albany in the 1867 Langley's Directory. We cannot find any subsequent citations pertaining to this pioneer physician."

1875 $1 Indian Octagonal 1 Dollar, BG-1126, R.5, MS66 Deep Mirror Prooflike NGC.
A berry beneath the right foot of the first I in CALIFORNIA helps attribute this late-date Period Two Dollar. As on all seen, a network of die cracks is intertwined on the reverse. Although not as rare as previously estimated (the first edition of Breen-Gillio awarded it an R.8 rating), the BG-1126 is nonetheless a desirable high denomination fractional, with this reflective Gem as the single highest certified and potentially the finest example known.

1860 $1 Liberty Octagonal 1 Dollar, BG-1102, R.4, MS66 PCGS.
Die State I, without the 'bisecting obverse crack.' The 0 in the date is widely repunched, and faint clash marks (as made) confront Liberty's profile. The bust truncation points to a star. A magnificently preserved Gem with mirrored apple-green fields and a bold strike. Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (8/03).
From the Holman Family Collection.

This is a bright, prooflike yellow-gold coin, with hints of lime color in its outer areas. Mint frost is abundant over the devices. A spindly die crack, as struck, spans the reverse, yet post-striking imperfections are at a minimum. Struck in medal alignment.

Characteristic green-gold color and medallic alignment. The mere fact that our first president is depicted on this otherwise more available Period Two issue makes it extremely popular.

| Lot: 5673 | Nov 2, 2016
Sold For:
$3,995.00
1876/5 $1 Indian Octagonal Dollar, BG-1129, R.4, MS66 PCGS.
The dies for BG-1129 initially struck BG-1127, dated 1875. The 5 in the date was crudely plugged on the obverse die to change the digit to a 6. BG-1129 is likely from the prolific workshop of Christopher Ferdinand Mohrig, though some believe Herman J. Brand was the maker. This is a lemon-gold Premium Gem with semireflective fields and a blush of deeper orange patina on the portrait. PCGS Population: (1/1). NGC Census: (0/0).
From The Boulder City Collection.
