This is one of only three notes known from this Riverside County community, and only the second opportunity in sixty years to obtain any note from this town at public sale. The Colver collection contained two of the three known pieces, with the first now permanently ensconced in a major southern California holding and the second obtained at that sale by Lowell. It fetched $6050 at the Colver sale, and now, in a far stronger market and with this perhaps the last opportunity for a generation to obtain any note from here, is very likely destined to realize considerably more tonight.
Very Fine.

This excessively rare note is one of only two large examples known from this one bank community. The other example, a considerably lower grade piece than this, was sold by us as part of the Colver collection, where it blew away the estimate and realized $4675. Only $930 was outstanding from here in large size in 1935. With the Colver example now ensconced in very strong hands, that leaves only this specimen for collectors who aspire to own a large Pleasanton note. The Horwedel example grades a pretty
Very Fine,
with bright purple signatures, and is certain to delight its fortunate new owner. What that person will pay to obtain this note is uncertain, but if history is any guide it certainly won't be cheap.

It is truly the extraordinary sale of California National Bank Notes that would offer both of the known examples from this much sought after Los Angeles County community. This piece appeared in the Krakover sale as lot 121, and then in the February, 1991 Superior sale as lot 31, where our consignor obtained it. It's been off the market since. This is the finer of the two pieces known from here, and offers a possible once in a lifetime opportunity for a fortunate collector to add one or both of these notes to his holdings. Bright

The appearance of this newly discovered large size Cucamonga note marks only the second time ever that any large note from this legendary San Bernardino County community has been available to collectors at public sale. The only other appearance of a large note from here came when we sold the Colver collection back in 1999, when we noted that "We don't know what this will sell for, but if you are interested bring both money and determination." That example realized $13,200 against a pre-sale estimate of $3000-6000. The note we now offer is superior to the Colver note, which graded Very Fine with faded signatures. This piece grades a bright
Very Fine+,
with vibrant signatures that are easily readable. With the market even more attuned to grade and desirability than it was five years ago, any estimate is again just speculation, but it would not surprise us at all to see our likely conservative number again surpassed early in the bidding.

One of the greatest notes in Lowell's spectacular collection, with this appearance the first offering of any example from this obscure Placer County community since a Hickman & Waters fixed price list offering back in February of 1968. While a couple of other notes do exist from this location, they are extremely closely held, something those who rely on census figures and not real world opportunities to obtain notes learn to their chagrin when they are finally presented with the one opportunity in a generation to obtain a wonder item and fail to take advantage of it. Expect some serious competition to determine which lucky collector adds this new town to his holdings tonight.

One of the most exciting notes in the Horwedel holdings, as this is the only note known from the sole issuing bank in this Contra Costa County community, then a sleepy farming locale but now part of the sprawling east Bay megalopolis. Like the Burbank note offered above, it was purchased privately and has never before been offered at public sale to the collecting fraternity. While well circulated and grading only
Very Good+,
it is totally intact and remarkably defect free. Notes such as this are tremendously difficult to estimate, because the opportunity to obtain them is often as rare as the notes themselves, but expect this unique item from an avidly sought after county and state to easily reach and quite likely exceed...

One of just eight Series 1875 $10 notes extant from this rare National Gold Bank, and the second finest known of that small group. This is this note's second offering to the numismatic community in at least a half century, as it comes originally from the collection of Malcolm Trask, a pioneer New York collector who assembled his holdings during the late 1940's and early 1950's. Like most of the Trask notes, it is far superior to most of what has been available commercially for the past twenty years. While there are a few repairs, done with consummate skill, the note is bright and the reverse vignette sharp and clear. Hard to estimate because of its rarity, but this

One of the great items from Lowell Horwedel's collection, as this is truly a note with everything going for it. This bank was in existence for a mere three years before liquidating in 1908, and issued only a relative handful of notes. Of that number only three examples are known, with just two appearances from here in the past fifteen years, this piece in the Krakover sale and the specimen from Bill Litt's collection which we sold in January of 2000. The Litt specimen was nice but a bit lower grade than this, although still attractive enough to fetch $5500 over four years ago. Expect this lovely

rarity to easily surpass that figure tonight. Ex-Philip Krakover collection sale of March, 1990, lot 532.

A most attractive Sacramento National Gold Bank Note which is tied (with several other examples) for second finest known. CGA has graded this note
Very Fine 35,
and, having handled this example as far back as 1992, we can attest that it absolutely deserves that grade. It's every bit as nice as the Very Fine example we sold in September of 2000 which realized $15,400 and will likely exceed that figure this evening, perhaps by a substantial amount.
