Sold For:
$28,800.00
1877 $1 Sailor Head Dollar, Judd-1542, Pollock-1715, R.7, PR67 Red and Brown NGC.
Ex: Bass. The obverse shows a bust of Liberty facing left with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST above and the date 1877 below. On the reverse, the denomination 1 DOLLAR is centered within a wreath of corn, wheat, and cotton. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the upper periphery, E PLURIBUS UNUM is around the lower periphery. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Superb quality, the surfaces are mostly red with occasional accents of blue and light brown toning. Under magnification a few die finishing lines can be seen on the obverse, evidence that Charles Barber spent some time finessing this die.

Sold For:
$25,850.00
1879 $1 Morgan Dollar, Judd-1612, Pollock-1808, R.6, PR67 Red NGC.
Ex: Genaitis. A pattern Morgan dollar, showing the adopted obverse with a reverse that displays a broad and imposing "shield type" eagle with spread wings. According to the USPatterns.com website, "This design by Morgan is another attempt to replace the production design whose eagle was described as scrawny among other things." Struck in copper with a reeded edge. A pristine, full red pattern dollar and extremely rare as such. The surfaces show even, cherry-red color over both sides with occasional flashes of lime-green here and there. Deeply mirrored and obviously problem-free, a pattern of unsurpassable quality.
From The Watson Collection.

| Lot: 3714 | Jan 7, 2006
Sold For:
$23,000.00
1838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-72, Pollock-75, R.5, PR67 Cameo NGC.
The obverse depicts a draped bust of Liberty facing left. Liberty wears a diadem and a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY. The date is below. On the reverse, an eagle with outstretched wings holds four arrows in its right (facing) claw and an olive branch in its left (facing). The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOLLAR are around the periphery. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Medallic alignment--a diagnostic feature of virtually all known examples. With no evidence of die rust and a little striking softness in the centers, this coin appears to be one of the first restrikes produced in 1858 or later. This remarkable and Superb Gem Proof is without a doubt the finest example of this pattern variety that we have seen. The surfaces are deeply mirrored around lustrous devices with exceptional rainbow iridescence on both sides. It is sharply struck and extremely attractive.

| Lot: 6356 | Aug 14, 2016
Sold For:
$16,450.00
1879 $1 Dollar, Judd-1606, Pollock-1802, R.6-7, PR67 Brown NGC.
Same design as the silver piece above, with the central motif similar to Charles Barber's "Washlady" patterns, the head of Liberty faces left with IN GOD WE TRUST above, the date below, and thirteen stars to the left and right. A spread wing eagle is in the center of the reverse with a laurel wreath around the eagle, E PLURIBUS UNUM above the eagle's head, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the margin. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The reflective proof mirrors serve as a bright backdrop to the rich violet-indigo and cobalt-blue toning that covers each side. Even through the depth of toning present on this piece, one can easily see that a cameo contrast is present from the thick mint frost on the devices.
From the Genaitis Collection of 1879 Coinage.

Sold For:

1865 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-423, Pollock-495, R.7, PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC.
The obverse shows the Liberty Seated design used to coin regular issue 1865 Quarters. The reverse displays a modified version of the eagle used on regular issue 1865 Quarters with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR below. The arrow shafts are unusually long, and pass over (instead of under) the eagle's right (facing) wingtip. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This razor-sharp and nearly pristine Superb Gem has outstanding contrast between the icy-white devices and the darkly mirrored fields. An outstanding adjunct to a collection of proof Seated Quarters. This is one of only two Judd-423 specimens that have been certified as Ultra Cameo by NGC (7/04).

1883 5C Liberty Head Five Cents, Judd-1714, Pollock-1919, R.6, PR 67 NGC.
The central obverse device is the same as that used by Barber on the Liberty nickel beginning in 1883. In fact, the only differences between this and a regular issue is the addition of the word LIBERTY at the top of the obverse, its removal from the coronet, and smaller stars. The reverse is of the regular issue type for 1883. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. The fields are brightly reflective and each side displays rich golden toning with rose tinted peripheries. Nearly flawless.

The reverse has 50 CENTS centered in a wreath of oak and laurel with STANDARD SILVER above and the date 1869 below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Attractive light lemon patina graces both sides of this well struck Superb Gem. The fields have raised die lines, as struck due to die polish, but the surfaces are seemingly pristine. This is the finest certified Judd-754 pattern, according to the population reports of NGC and PCGS."
